Hey, sorry to bother you and I doubt you'll read this, but you are the only person that comes to my mind whom I could ask this. So the matter is, I recently bought Gigabyte A7 K1 due to it being the cheapest r7, 130 TGP Rtx 3060 laptop in my country. It has 144hz 17,3 inch pannel. Sometimes when I alt tab or just use it wide vertical RGB stripes appear on it for a split second, it's so qucik that I just realize it happened after they are gone. Should I be worried about it(could this be a couse of a deeper underlaying issue)? Should i return it? Ps. All drivers are up to date. Thank you so much if you answer this. It also sometimes just flickers at the top of the screen.

@@kizu4209 Not sure, could try DDU and install the drivers fresh, failing that reinstall Windows to rule out a software issue. If it's still a thing, could be signs of a hardware problem.

Great stuff as always, but for the inevitable M16 comparison I have a couple of questions: for the battery testing do you set a percentage of brightness or a fixed number of nits? As M16 is a massive outlier with its display and its 50% is almost 85% of competitors. In particular nits Also in your M16 did you try under-volting the overly hungry CPU and if so would did it yield? Finally are all its benchmarks when its completely flat or on a cooling mat, or even with a partially raised screen (hinge position actually could make a difference here)?

Yay! I have been looking forward to your review of this machine. I think it is time for a thanks in the form of a tip. Your reviews are highly valuable to so many of us shopping for high performance laptops! Some users, like myself, need a powerful machine that provides me with rendering power in photo realistic architectural design work. But what I look for, and I think what you aim for educating your viewers on, is providing practical advice on getting the most performance for your dollar. I especially appreciate how you always speak practically and realistically about the marginal performance gains one might accomplish by spending much more money (than really needed) on higher-tiered machines or newest-model, upgrades. In this current economy, I have to spend wisely, even for a critical tool, such as a laptop of this variety. Reviews like this keep me grounded and reeled in when tempted to spend $500 to $1000 more on the tippy-top tiered machine designed for highest graphics performance. I really just don't need that, I have learned. Thank you!

I think that such a big difference between M16 and G15 is not only due to a bit bigger M16 screen, but also due to CPU differences. It seems like hot 12900H is taking all of the temperature headroom from the GPU while more efficient and cooler Ryzen allow GPU to perform a little better.

Shouldn't be due to the screen since resolution is set to 1920*1080. So screen native resolution won't matter. Thermals could be the reason

I don't like watch dogs but I think it's good to test this one because it shows if the gpu vram is a bottleneck or not because you have showed this earlier that WD benefits from higher vram and given that next generation games will need more vram so WD shows if this laptop is good for upcoming years. Hey Jarrod, great content as always. I have two ideas but I leave it to you to decide if it makes sense. 1. Could you add more variety in the games tested? It’s heavy on FPS but would be nice to see games like Formula 1, Forza, etc.. I think you already use these titles in other videos and it’s great 😉 2. After you show the fps of each game could you show a few seconds of the in-game video at the resolution you find best? I can see you have it displayed on the background already. It’s a way to get to know some games that are new to me. I just bought this is exactly G15 thanks to you 😉 thanks! Keep up the good work

I haven't had a chance to test that one so it's hard for me to say. With lower - mid MSI machines it's probably a mostly plastic machine so might feel a little cheap, but the specs and performance is probably still decent, that's my overall general experience.

But it would be cooler if you can review lower specs laptop (like this G15 but lower specs, Ryzen 7, RTX 3060 for example). Because I think the lower specs may be bought by most of the people. And we will be more curious with the performance of the lower specs. As this high-end specs, I think people will rarely have their hands on this. As in current situation. COVID and stuff... Hey Jarrod, my m15r4 RTX 3070 recently bricked (125-140W) and i7 10th gen with 16gb of ram, Alienware is sending me the r6 with an RTX 3080 but it’s 115-130W, it has the 11th gen i7 and 32GB of ram but, should this out perform my m15r4? I’d imagine it would since the wattage of the 3080 isn’t to low, and there’s more ram and a better processor.

A very important result that very less people are noticing is that this G15 came very close to the 5i pro. It was always only 5 - 10% slower in those 3 game comparison. This is cool considering you only lose 5-10% performance for a thinner and lighter machine. Ofcourse other things like display and thermals etc will matter too but the zephyrus series is kinda know for good quality. Main deal maker or breaker will be the price

Also considering that generally the 5i pro is slightly faster than the AMD based 5 pro then the difference will be even smaller

Thermals on Zephyrus machines is a nightmare, not to mention the price... Plus, the fact that not even liquid metal can keep the damn thing cool is worrying. It'll be thermal throttling out of the box in the tropical climate here. Not enough people take this into consideration.

Got a msi gp66 3070 with intel and in a few games it beats l7 amd 3080 and overclocked pretty well. Particularly borderlands 3 pretty low for legion 7 Wonder how much the ram upgrade will change. And for some reason directx12 made rise of the tomb raider chug at 20 fps

My 2021 Razer blade 17 with a 100w 3080 is approx 12% faster than the 2022 zephyrus M16 with the 120w 3070 TI tested like for like in games on the same day in the same room. That's despite the M16 having the 12900h and and Ddr5 versus the older 10875h and 2900mhz ddr4. I really like the look of the g15 this year.

Hey Jarrod, I bought the dell g15 5511 with 165hz, but the rtx3060 cant hold the full power.. It stays at 110 ~ watts in turbo boost, it gets WAY to hot, Im sad :/ maybe I will sell it and get the legion 5

How are you getting about 150 fps in warzone?? My unit caps at 80-90. Doesn't matter if I'm playing in 1440p max settings or 1080p low. It just lowers the GPU's TDP like some mechanism is capping the framerates. I checked Literally EVERY setting (in game, windows, armory crate, Nvidia 3d settings) but found nothing capping the framerates. Can anyone explain what is going on with my g15?

The only thing a bit concerning is the negative reviews on Best Buy for these early units. Does anyone think it’s user error, or possible is it early quality control issues from Asus?

The only issue mine has (and I'll mention this in the review next week) is my "1" key is broken, you have to press very hard for it to work. I assumed it was just an issue with mine though.

Is ultra on RDR2 means maximum graphics setting? I have an exactly same laptop as you,and I also done the same setting like you do. But when I max out my graphic setting on RDR2,I could only perform 45fps in average Is there something wrong with my laptop?

I have everything from Texture Quality to Tessellation Quality set to ultra. Anisotropic Filtering set to x8. TAA is off and I also use directX 12 instead of Vulkan

Meh, here's hoping they fixed the quality control issues. I returned my 2021 G15 after 2 weeks because I was getting graphical and auditory glitches while gaming, speaking popping at over 60 percent volume, sleep mode never worked, and I got a BSOD of death a literal week after purchase. The laptops are nice, sure, but they should just work for something as expensive as they are.

Maybe someday we'll see the beast parts show up for Zen 3+, the 6900HX and the 6980HX with a 3080 or AMD's best graphics. There should be some measurable performance uplift with those parts as long as the laptop has the proper power budget for it, but with using AMD there should be more power for the GPU and that should boost gaming performance in many games.

Depends, if looking for considerably budget friendly Lenovo legion 5 pro considering RTX 3070Ti is very expensive currently due to supply and demand. I don't own either asus g15 or Lenovo legion 5 pro so I am not sure which one you have to go for. I have Lenovo legion 5i with RTX 3070 that rig is the best $1550 laptop got value for price and performance.

I think the difference in M16 and G15 has more to do with pushing more resolution due to 16:10. But that difference isn't too big so not the worst case scenario. Maybe they should do a 17 inch but that's just me nitpicking. Can't wait for a review to see how it is as a daily driver

I personally think the reason for that is due to the high heat output of the 12900H and at the same time the thin housing of the M16 can also contribute to the underperforming result because of lack of thermal headroom Its just my opinion so dont take it seriously

So... my 2021 g15 barely hits 120 fps on low settings in siege... in performance mode. Plugged in. Clean fans. only at 75 degrees... what gives... 5900hs and 3070 8gb. 16 gb ram

Does someone really play on max fans? On my recently bought Strix G15 with 6800H and RTX360 I've disabled turbo boost entirely to not get GPU power and thermal throttling on 45% fan speed. 100% fans are loud as hell - it's audible from other room at this point.

@@sense2001 oof, personally I think any 3080m laptop is poor value for money, even a 3070m laptop isn't particularly good value and I say that as a Legion 5 Pro 3070m owner, I guess if you really want that extra juice, wait for a sale maybe? Or see if Eluktronics or other brands have better prices for similar specs

I bought the 3070ti variant 32gb ram and its fucking hot. my idle is on 50ish then sometimes just watching youtube goes in 60 and playing max settings dota2 gives me 65-70c

To me it's pretty obvious why this performs better than the M16 and even some 3080Ti laptops - the competitors are all featuring an i9-12900 Even though Intel CPUs are the big and powerful boiz, Ryzen APUs are much more efficient, resulting in more power (and thermal) headroom for the GPU Would be cool to try some kind of a CPU bound E-Sports title running in 640x480 at lowest settings. That might show an advantage going with intel, however, anything focused on pure eye-candy should favor AMD APUs imho.

Why does the legion 5i pro seem to consistently underperform against the GP66?

The GP66 GPU runs at constant 150W. While in case of legion it runs at 125W in games. The 25W dynamic boost in not really utilised in games since the CPU is also under load.

I feel like the entire gaming performance section from 2:50 to 4:50 is just a tale of GPU TGP. Outside of a couple of outliers, more wattage equals more better, regardless of the actual GPU.
