A lot of people don't understand that the thin-and-light gaming laptop segment of audience are different than those who are seeking for pure performance. They're well aware that there can only be so much wattage for the GPU in that chassis, and they're well aware that the biggest chunk of what they paid here are portability while still being so capable. Comparing thin and light gaming laptops with pure performance gaming laptop will never be fair & can never be called a scam.

Thanks, yes!! The only thing where I get the remarks for, is that the g14 was always a pure gaming machine, but pretty light for its class . They had the flow x13 for the thinner / lighter class. So this 2024 version makes the g14 a more expensive thin and light (but an awesome one!). For everyone waiting for a refresh of their beloved gaming series, it's a negative. I couldn't be happier with this design though.

@@eladbari In Belgium (I don't know for other countries), you can get the Lenovo Slim 5 with rtx 4070, 230W for 1200-1400 euros (Tax included), This only gives you 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD, but considering the low prices of storage, you can easily upgrade to a 2TB for like 100 euros, same goes for RAM. Which makes it by far the most affordable laptop with a good GPU. On the downside, it is a heavy beast and the battery-efficiency is nothing compared to a Macbook (4 hours of max usage). But considering the price/performance it stands way above the competition... You also have a free SSD slot so you can keep the original 512GB and just drop in a 2TB without having to think about it; which makes it so nice

I bought through a reputable boutique in the US and I had them repaste it. That way my laptop and screen has been tested for function. I've had zero issues with it (well the Asus keycaps are absolute instant scratch off shit. I took too long calling Asus to get a replacement keyboard.) Considering when I did this it was really impressive that I basically got normal price and service from a small operation, during pandemic pandemonium. Although to my way of thinking, the 1660 Ti probably counted as $300 of the price, but that was still up to $100 less than others were paying for that level of performance whether in or out of a laptop. Are there even 3-5 year warranty laptops instead of 1 year ****?

I believe you guys mentioned in the video that the screen is updating 960 times every second, when it's actually 480, since the refresh rate is 120Hz. It's the Asus Rog Zephyrus G16 with its 240Hz display that technically updates 960 times every second.
@Hathos9
@Hathos9 Ай бұрын

@jorismak
@jorismak Ай бұрын
The brightness calibration is 960hz. That's the PWM that's detected by notebookcheck and others. It basically means every oled pixel is 're-pulsing' at 960hz. Note that this is completely unrelated to 'screen refresh '. Dropping brightness also drops the PWM by the way, so this 960hz is only true at 60% brightness or more. You get a popup when lowering it below that. Armoury Crate also has a 'software brightness ' slider, when you can limit the brightness while keeping the panel at full brightness / refresh.

Have you tried partnering with another repair place who can service them faster or may be able to ship or turn them over better, even if it's paid ala carte? There was a time I was one of two Apple repair people in the whole state I live in (in the 2010s) which is as large as Germany and I used to be expected to beat the genius bar or any shop that mailed stuff to a central hub because a lot of Apple branded repair places would just drive them over to us. We did PCs too obviously. We'd repair them quickly enough and had an official parts supply chain that the other shop could get them back and circumvent their own hubs/mail outs. I used to know so many model specific fixes for Toshibas, Asus and HP because they let us at least try to escalate which led to us being able to always escalate. It might never actually be cheaper than just writing them off honestly cause you'd either being paying out of pocket for this or passing that expense on to the client, but it can be done, it is done every day all over the world even internationally. and it just makes you look really competent and tuned into the consumer electronics beat.

This makes typing an awful experience, and I've heard of people having this issue on other Asus laptops as well, and it's possible they still haven't sorted this issue out. There's also no consistency to the issue. It happens to any key, and it only seems to happen when typing because I can't get it to happen by mashing a key with a key tester open. It almost seems like a bug in the firmware. External keyboards don't have any issues.

x13 exists and you're recommending a g14? btw, the fact that the display is a high resolution hdr oled isn't a good thing on a laptop this size. swapping it for a touchscreen is going to make for a much better experience. and if you want to game/watch movies on a good screen - buy a good monitor and enjoy the 27+ inches of screen at home, which is probably what you'll be doing anyways if this is your "only laptop" who is the zephyrus lineup even for? these things are packed with crazy hardware and are probably engineering marvels, but I cant imagine anyone picking it over an x13 for actual day-to-day usage

@@Hathos9 having a touchscreen on a laptop is way more useful (even for general tasks, like web browsing or even quick setting toggles) than having an energy-eating hdr oled that practically can't be used in the sun. I used a touchscreen often while at work and I'm really not a part of what you'd call the target audience for a touchscreen laptop and even if you don't need a touchscreen - x13 is still cheaper and smaller and will give you longer battery live per gram since it doesn't have to support a 4k HDR display. haven't seen a direct comparison of their specs, but I don't think there's any other difference (apart from the flow's hinge and their designs, I guess)

There'll probably be some different barrel or whatever, to rectangle adapter doohickeys soon enough. However, no touchscreen? In this age, and for this price bracket? Nah, that's an instant disqualification. On a laptop I need a touchscreen. Even the best trackpads are... so-so. I originally planned getting a 4TB drive for G14, changing it with what comes in laptop but it doesn't seem possible anymore. That's also the reason I'm considering getting G16 as it has two m.2 slots. My question is, does the laptop (G16) as a whole has 2TB limit or is it per slot, like say if I were to get a pair of 2TB drives plugging each in a slot, will I get 4 TB total storage or will it somehow cap out at 2TB? This is really important as it will fundamentally affect my final purchase decision.

Yup. I'm a Razer laptop user and their stuff is already high-priced but they went the same route. Huge increases for 2023 and still high for 2024. Insane how even if I buy one used it will still be like $2,600 bc MSRP was $3800 😬

Thin and light? Sure, nice to have. But not at the expense of soldered RAM (or soldered storage for that matter, as in some Macs for example). Besides, it's not actually true. The room is there for a sodimm slot. It's marketing, getting you to spend more now than you really want, because you can't upgrade later.

Currently the only way to get fast ram speeds though. If it's true that the precious model only had a single slot that doesn't really help much, because you need to match size and speed of the soldered ram to have dual channel.

Wait, so they give a super-power-supply 180W brick AND I have the option of 100W USB-C charging too? That's fantastic, 180W at home when gaming, 100W USB-C when on the move so you only need to carry one charger Plus it looks great in general - I don't really need a gaming laptop, but this would certainly be tempting if I did

I hate it: They've turned it into a MAC, down to the upgradeablity. OLED means burn in, so you'll have to replace it sooner, ram slot is gone, so you'll have to upgrade sooner, and the screws are no longer normal, they don't want you to get inside. 2025 model is gonna be worse. I'm personally gonna be looking out for a 2023 model this summer, last year they had 2022 models for $800 sales, and like the video said, the cpu is the same besides the Ai.

Personally haven't had a worse experience with them compared to other manufacturers (within Europe). RMA turnaround fast enough, though sometimes they require a bit of a bollocking to actually recognise when a defect is a defect, and not just the result of user misuse. Annoying, but whatever. As with all things, YMMV.
