They were arch-enemies and genuinely hated each other and wanted to see each other dead in the first film (so much that Jack literally killed Barbossa), but became frenemies after they were both ressurected and forced to work together against Beckett and Jones and did not want to see each other dead anymore, but still did not like each other until the fifth film when they became friends after Barbossa sacrificed himself to save both Jack and Carina (as well as Henry), and Jack was genuinely saddened and devastated by his friend's second death, although there was already a spark of respect between them before it.

Never noticed this until I rewatched the previous conversation between Will and Jack and hearing Elizabeth say sometime after this "We need to give Jack more time" since he was looking for the heart on the Dutchman. As a kid, I thought she just outright sold him out lol.

Yup. Swann and the pirates were playing chess, while Lord Beckett was playing Risk and Jones was playing checkers. Ultimately, the pirates won because they were willing to make critical sacrifices and Swann set up the pieces for the best chance at a checkmate, while Beckett was too focused on securing his empire and Jones on punishing Sparrow and lashing out at the world.

call backs and character consistency go a long way.

Jack probably knew Bill well enough to know that he would be on his side until the end and would die if necessary. Now I wonder why Gibs did not share Bill's fate (attachment to the gun and lunging overboard with it) will only stay in Port Royal on the day Barbossa kidnapped Elizabeth. It's probably logical that he should get rid of all the people of the previous captain.

Beckett is playing chess, but gets complacent and doesn't realize the pirates are playing too. In this scene the pirates come out on top. They get the compass, they get Will and his intel on the enemy fleet, and they put Jack within reach of the heart, as the chest and key are both on the Dutchman. Beckett gets nothing, he has no use for Jack.

But he doesn't realise Will, Elizabeth and Jack are organising an exchange so they can have each playing in the place where they are most valuable.

+Trollie McG, to quote a comment on who's doing what in the movie: Jack needed the heart of Davy Jone to bargain with him. Davy Jones killed Jack Sparrow by dragging him and his ship to his locker in order to satisfy his debt. The heart ended up with Lord Beckett, who uses it as leverage to command the Flying Dutchman because no pirates can outrun the Dutchman. In order to save themselves, Barbosa decided to release Calypso. This was also because Calypso(Tia Dalma) brought Barbosa back from the dead in the first movie. Since releasing Calypso required all 9 pirate lords, Barbosa had to travel to Davy Jones Locker to get Jack Sparrow back. Since Lord Buckett controls Davy Jones heart, Jack makes a deal with Beckett to lead them to the pirates in exchange for not handing him over to Jones. He sends Will to lead them to the pirates, and Will uses it as leverage to negotiate his father's freedom, who was serving on the Dutchman. Elizabeth stood on the pirate's side because Beckett killed her father. Once they find the pirates, Beckett breaks his promise and Elizabeth hands Jack over because he's a traitor, and Will stays with Elizabeth because he loves her. Barbosa protests because he needed Jack to release Calypso, but when the handover occurred he steals Jack's pieces of eight. In the end both Will and Jack realized they could not bargain with Davy Jones by threatening to stab his heart because he who stabs the heart must take his place, and neither Will or Jack was prepared to do this, and Jones know it. In the end Will was forced to stab the heart as he was dying. Yeah, that movie was a walk in the park, mate. Walk in the park...

She just did same thing in dead man's chest

Yeah I will never understand people who hate on Dead Man's Chest+At World's End. They were really well done sequels with excellent, well done scenes and acting. The effects are astounding-Davey Jone's CGI looks so real you'd think he was wearing something and they used CGI to make it better. Same with the crew. The storylines are great, the brethen court was awesome. I do understand people not liking 4-5 especially 4 (I am not a fan of it at all, but I actually thought 5 was pretty good) because of some odd ret-cons or lack of original characters/charisma the first three had, but "curse of the black pearl" by standards of dead man's chest and at world's end held in such a high regard kinda makes the first film overrated.

The second and third POTC flicks had some very obvious flaws, mostly with the overcrowded storylines and overabundance of "don't ask questions on what this is cuz reasons" elements. But yeah, I think they were definitely over-hated during their time. At the very least, they still felt like they belonged together with COTBP, and were elevated courtesy of some great scenes and Davy Jones.

Curse was just simpler and the better for it.

2 and 3 had very nice scenes but the moment you start to think, your brain hurt. 1 is a solid good film, with a superb story and characters with real motivations. I can enjoy the 2nd and 3rd if I looked at individual scenes and its visual styles. But I also hated the potential loss when they destroyed the characters and turn the plot into an mess.

The first film is certainly the best but the others are great

She knew that. What she was doing was giving him a chance to find the Dead Man's Chest. Also, she was planting an agent of chaos aboard the Flying Dutchman, thus weakening the most dangerous ship in Beckett's fleet.

Challenge accepted. Will betrayed Jack to Sao Feng in exchange for the Black Pearl. Sao Feng betrayed Will to Beckett for the Pearl, and the latter didn't honor the agreement. Jack made a deal with Beckett to betray the Brethren Court to the EITC. Will made a deal with Davy Jones to kill Calypso in exchange for Bootstrap's freedom. Tia Dalma resurrected Barbossa in exchange for her release as Calypso. All of these alliances collide in this scene. Boom.
