Last week, it was announced that Alan-1 had signed a partnership deal with Atari to bring ten of their “Recharged” games to the coin-op arcade market.
So we went to Amusement Expo 2024 to check them out live and in person for YOU!

They aren't still around. They are basically a holding company licensing out the name and IP. This is Alan-1's work, not Atari's. But still, I'm glad to see this happen. I hope they sell a lot of machines! And how about lets see some completely original arcade games of this quality with the Atari name... something not relying on IP from 1979.

Asteroids was the first arcade game I truly played a lot. Back in 1981, there was an Asteroids in a Shakey's Pizza that gave you one player for a penny and two players for three pennies. I don't know if the owner made it a penny machine or if was just broken (I suspect broken) so me and my friends played that a lot. I forget why we stopped. Maybe they fixed it or we were chased out.

Nice to see Atari going back to the arcades, I wonder if they'll tap into any of their other IPs. Especially any of their racing ones, racing games always go down well in arcades!

Their website is now listing it at $9995 for 3 player Asteroids. It's still hugely overpriced, IMO.

That was originally meant to be a 4 player, but the width was a little too small, so they went with a three player instead.

super cool! I had heard about these I thought it was pretty sweet to hear they were bringing those games to the arcade! and guessing it can be set for score or tickets? I have a couple of these on switch/PC and they were pretty fun. would certainly be willing to give it a credit or two if I saw it on location somewhere, though.

Pretty much , or if you’ve ever played Q*Bert, same kind of effect. It’s a pretty neat idea and it gives the game just a little more character.

I do like asteroids recharged and black widow recharged. The others weren’t as good to me. Middle command was ok but would be better with og controls

Yup, but these are modified versions for the arcade. This is a good thing, we need more stuff like this hitting the arcade. This helps keep the arcade scene alive and well!

Still Prefer Blasteroids over Asteroids Recharged because the game still has charm and good sprite work and a boss very much like Sinistar - also the fact you can combine to become a big ship and could change size and have different power ups.

@@RetroRalph after thinking about it... Have multiplayer (multple cabs networked together) shooting enemy cars, etc. but with modern day graphics and sound it should be a hit. If these companies make games simple and not to repeatous they are playable and get plenty of return. But dont go the spy hunter ii route and stick two monitors on a cab. Btw i like the spread fire on Androids... From the look of it they didn't go to crazy.

Damn. Didn't know you were attending the expo. I was there also! I was not a fan of the 3 player. Screen is too large and close to the player. 2 player was much better.

That’s awesome man, this one is modified with attract mode, coin op and you don’t just have a single life… it’s pretty cool. There’s slight modifications to the gameplay too. Very Cool that you made your own 👍🏻

I think frogger missed the boat, crossy road pretty stole their concept and ran with it. There is a crossy road arcade, not just the mobile game.

Honestly? The game itself is attractive looking, and the large screen is fantastic. However, the cabinet design leaves much to be desired. Can I be blunt? It's rather unattractive, sorry to say. As a devoted Atari fan since probably '78 or '79, when I first discovered them, I feel the cabinet design and artwork are lacking that special touch that the original Atari pained at making perfect. Cabinet design and art should be top-notch, serving as the defining aesthetic for the game.

The graphics are terrible. Looks like a crappy flash game. Don't need the little fire animation coming from the front of the ship either. It just looks dumb. What a wsste.
