Well done. 👍

Hello James, CONGRATULATIONS ! today is a great day ... the first chips with the new spindle! Every Saturday I look forward to a new video. Thanks for uploading. There is, however, a reason for this: I have an identical milling machine (OPTIMUM MH22V / BF20). It is conceivable that I will also rebuild my spindle. So I'm looking forward to the coming ones Performance videos. Greetings from Hamburg Achim

Great job, James! You are a true maker! Please consider the safety advantages of a single tag out/lock out for the motor controls. Ref: NFPA 70 article 430, Motor, Motor Circuits, and Controllers, and maybe an older version of UL 508. Obviously your installation is accessible only by qualified personnel, so no telling what you might have and not be in any particular danger as you are the man! However, please consider at least a label that there are two sources of energy in the controller or better, rework the controls to have a single point of tag out/lock out for more of a system/machine centric basis of thinking. Keep up the good work!

Awesome to see this working so well! For a single (mostly relevant) point of reference: my router's spindle (750 Watt) is comfortable doing a 4mm depth of cut, 0.4mm WOC, at 24,000rpm, moving at 2.4m/min using a 2fl end mill in 6061 aluminum. Your machine is much more rigid than my router so will likely get proportionally more performance than I do :)

i would check after tramming if your side plates of the spindle mounts are true, if so, you can tram the head much faster by moving the z up and down and indicating on that datum with a the mag base on the back column. it may also be more accurate :-) you machined them mounting plates so i would use them. maybe one can even build a fixture to speed align it, thus making angles cuts a more reoccurring event. just my two cents. thanks for the idea with the grub screw thingy, very good!

Did you check the tram in the NOD of the head? I know their isn't any adjustment. But, it's good idea to check. Some G0704's need the column or head shimmed.

i have a BF20L, similar mill and indeed the NOD was off. Needed shimming which I do not like it for rigidity but is the easier solution.

I'd like to hear someone run the numbers of the clamping load on tee SA of the interface with those 4 large bolts clamping the spindle to the mount. I highly doubt that thing will have enough power in any situation to overcome that force.

This is so cool to see it all come together. It just looks so professionally done. I am probably going to think about trying to upgrade my spindle when I have some time. Could you maybe do a couple test to see how it handles low speeds like with a drill that needs a fair amount of torque?

Have you thought about adding a c6 spindle control board? It treats yours spindle like another axis and will control the on/off and speed with step and direction pulses from your break out board...they're super cheap, like $30...I put one on my Bridgeport controlling my hyunyang vfd and it works awesome...takes m3 and m5 commands from g-code and sets your speed automatically...
