In this video, I unbox the Atlas Athlete Pack and give some first impressions on the bag. This is a very impressive and great bag with loads of storage options. It is also the first to feature the Origami camera unit built in the bag.

I had the opportunity to talk to Allan yesterday when I called with a question. He gave me the time to answer all of my questions and is an amazing person to deal with. I prefer to spend my hard earned money through smaller companies and am so glad to have gone through Atlas. I love this bag! I am able to fit my Fujifilm XT3 with a 90mm lens, my XT20 with an 18-55mm lens, a 14mm fuji, a 27mm fuji and a 12mm Rokinan along with all the filters for each size. I have taken this bag on a day hike and was very impressed with the comfort. I am 6’2” so the large bag worked excellently for me.

Isn't Allan amazing? He has been so patient with all my questions and so helpful. This bag is amazing so far and I love it! I am glad that you love yours and that it works so well for you!

Tammy, I'm happy for you, knowing that you've wanted this bag for a long time. I know that you will love it. Since the Atlas Athlete won't fit my Nikon D750 and the Atlas Adventure is too large, I finally bought an Osprey Kyte to replace the Mindshift Backlight 36L. Fit and feel is the most important feature. Had I seen an older Adam Gibbs YT video before I ordered the Osprey Kyte I would have looked into a Mammut Trion Pro bag. Enough about me.... As I wrote earlier, I'm so very happy for you, looks like she's a keeper. - Eva

Hi Tammy. Thanks for posting. I took a look at the Shimoda 40L bag yesterday and decided it is not for me. There were two things that put me off as well as the deal killer of not having an external holder for a water bottle (have had top of the range water bladder leaking which cost 1200 NZ$ to my camera). The lack of non camera storage space. I know that I can remove one of the storage compartments for extra space. This leads me to the second issue. The two camera storage compartments that came with the bag could not have their orientation changed. By that I mean that if I had one in place (going to happen) it would not fit horizontally across the bottom. With the help of the assistant in the camera shop we worked out how I could attach a water bottle holder to the outside of the bag. That struck me as being a hassle. I emailed Atlas and alas they do not have a supplier in NZ. The person offered to try and get me in contact with a person who has the bag in NZ. I am not sure about that. I don't need any more reviews, I want to try it out. I also have no idea how much it would cost to post out to NZ. One question, you mentioned that you could fit in a 5 inch lens. I have a canon f4 70-200 lens. Could that not fit in the compartments. Mark

Hey there! Yes I can understand your reservations on the Shimoda bag and the reasons behind them. I did some checking and it would seem that your Canon 70-200 f4 would fit in the compartment of the Atlas bag if you lay it down. I have my Olympus 40-150mm PRO f2.8 with the lens hood on and it fits with room to spare laying down as well. I also have my 1.4 teleconverter on the end all the time and still have room. I have mine across the top where the origami pull out is and it fits great. I think when they say 5" for lenses they mean that you can stand up a lens smaller then 5" but if its larger you have to lay it down. My lens measures in at 79.4x160mm (3.13x6.3 in) and yours is 76x172mm (2.99x6.77 in) so they are very close in size. I think yours would fit but you would have to lay it down like I did. I always lay my large lenses down anyway in any bag I have. I hope that helps and let me know if I can answer any more of your questions. I hope you get one of these bags.

I may have missed you saying this, but is this the medium or the large in the athlete?

This is the regular size and not the large. The large was a little big for me. Hope that helps.

Have you tried it with the hydration bladder? Any concerns with the bladder being on the side versus centered?

Hello! No I haven't tried the bladder in the side of the bag just yet. usually I do that in the spring and summer when I drink more water while out but I plan to try it soon just to test it and see how it goes. I don't see any issues with it on the side since my second tripod on the other side will counter the weight. Also with a one or two liter bladder it really isn't that much weight but when you get to the three liter ones its different. I don't normally carry a full 2 liter bladder anyway. I have however seen some people carry the bladder in the front pouch and route the hose but not sure I would do that.

have you been to the smoky mountain knife works in tennessee? you'd be in bliss. where was this bag a few months ago?! i've been looking all over for a decent camera/hiking bag. none really fit both categories. i opted for an osprey bag and just use a camera insert for all my gear. oh well.

I know right! I almost went the whole Osprey bag (since I already own a small one) and the insert option but when I heard about this bag I changed my mind. I spent a lot of time in TN in Gatlinburg (my Aunt had a hotel there) and in Cherokee, NC (I had family just outside of there) when I was a kid. I would love to go to that knife store but I would be afraid of all the goodies I would find LOL.

Hi, first video that I've seen on your channel. Love it! I've seen quite a few videos about this bag but none so comprehensive. Thank you for all the details you covered. The only question in my mind is whether there is an approved list of water bladders that will fit this bag, and is there something you could recommend?

Thank you very much! Well I haven't seen a list of bladders for it but it will hold any 2 liter bladder you can find. Platypus has some good ones. There are several companies who make them and its really personal preference on which ones you get. I would try a couple and see which ones you like since the bite end is different on each manufacturer. Hope that helps!

Yes but you have to remove metal frame. I went with shimoda 40l instead of this one. Check them out.

It depends on the airline you are flying. Someone else did a video on this bag and he took it on a flight and he didn't need to take the metal frame out of it. Its best to check with your airline to get the dimensions they have just to make sure.

You can take pretty large bags on planes way over the size requirement as long as you push hard enough...just tell the flight attendants it will work and not to worry about it....
