Welcome to the Alternative to Meds Center Podcast, where we explore mental health, addiction, and the most promising holistic methods of healing available today. Today, we are honored to be joined by Dr. Richard Jacoby. In this two-part interview, we discuss alternative methods of healing, including nutritional changes and the means by which the body and mind seek balance.
Who Is Dr. Richard Jacoby?
Dr. Jacoby is a board-certified podiatrist and best-selling author with over 20 years of experience in the field of regenerative medicine. He is well-known as a foot and ankle specialist focusing on peripheral neuropathy, damaged nerves in the feet. His expertise, skill, and work history have earned him Phoenix Magazine's Top Doc awards on four separate occasions. In addition to his foot and ankle specialty, he also has a passion for the impact nutrition has on the body and mind. This passion is evident in his written works and demonstrated throughout this interview.
Sugar Crush
In his best-selling book, Sugar Crush: How to Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Nerve Damage, and Reclaim Good Health, Dr. Jacoby provides a wealth of knowledge concerning the impacts of sugar and what it does to the body. He demonstrated direct correlations between sugar, high fructose foods, and other sweeteners to an array of health concerns such as carpal tunnel, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and autism. His book provides readers with a means of understanding how sugar, carbs, and bad fats can affect the body. It also describes how, in his career, Dr. Jacoby has seen how effective dietary changes can be in helping regenerate nerves and rehabilitate them to achieve normal function.
In our podcast, Debbie Nelson explores Dr. Jacoby’s early interest in regenerative medicine and how his career has led him to make connections between sugar and a variety of chronic diseases.
The Problem With Big Pharma
Throughout this interview, we see how Big Pharma plays a significant role in how medical concerns are treated throughout America. As a regenerative specialist, it is Dr. Jacoby’s job to explore not only how to heal the body but what causes any significant damage in the first place. From his experience, he has seen the negative impact Big Pharma and the consistent provision of prescription medications is having on the way people take care of their bodies.
Most significantly, he discusses the fact that many medical practices treat health concerns and issues as if they are entirely separate and not systemic. Much of his work helps to demonstrate that by separating issues and trying to treat them with various medications, we are often doing more harm than good. He has discovered that many ailments of the body and mind relate to one another.
The Holistic Difference
Throughout his career, Dr. Jacoby has advocated for holistic approaches to healing that do not rely on prescription medications. To help the body heal from a wide variety of ailments, he stresses that a crucial starting point is to look at the diet of the individual. Many consumers today don’t even realize the amount of harmful sugar, fat, and carbs we are consuming. We are all too often unaware of what is happening at the manufacturing level and are not properly educated in food labels.
Throughout his interview, Dr. Jacoby touches on the different products lurking on the shelf that can be counterproductive to personal health. He explains that for many of his patients, making strict dietary changes helped to progress their regenerative healing and further helped to prevent future issues.
Nutrition’s Impact on the Body and Mind
This podcast session is dedicated to exploring how significantly we are impacted by our dietary choices. While we know that food is designed to be fuel for the body, there is still a general lack of understanding as to what that means in our culture. Dr. Jacoby provides us with insight to better understand that improper food choices are a poison to our system.
Through his career, published works, and public speaking, he hopes to further educate other practitioners and interested individuals who want to take a step back from the overindulgence of medical prescriptions and return to the basics. Proper regulation of carbs and sugars can help improve quality of life, something everyone wants and needs to establish a healthy life.
Alternative to Meds Center is pleased to continue this conversation with Dr. Jacoby in Part 2 of the podcast.

As somebody who has overindulged on Coke, Dare Iced Coffee, Red Bull, Voltages, chocolate, bread, doughnuts and any other sugar-loaded drink or food I could find… I am praying that cutting it all out will result in a drastic reduction of my symptoms. Thank you Dr Jacoby for confirming all this. It sounds so hopeful!
