Hi Lisa. I’m a fellow outdoor enthusiast and KZfaq provider. I stumbled upon your video channels and went straight to the beginning and listened to every single one! Congratulations on creating these wonderful training videos. If your students view these prior to coming to your classes they will be pre-trained and will benefit greatly. I am not a canoeist but share your love of cold weather camping and am heading out this week to enjoy the wilderness (off grid) just north of Itasca Park in northern Minnesota. I think you would fit right in at the Minnesota Boundary Waters! Come for a visit?

Hello Lisa I really enjoy listening to you and your love for the Maine outdoors. I'm going to be a registered Maine guide soon if I pass the test in June. Also I'm a 3rd generation hvac tech. If you talk to the right people like twin city sheet metal they could make you a flexible stove pipe for with a quick disconnect fitting. Then you could move the stove around if need be and possibly store the pipe easier by folding it down. Just a thought. Is that is a 3 or 4 in pipe? We use flexible smoke( exhaust)pipes on a few special design residential boilers and wood boilers. Anyways thanks for all the education your channel provides. Hopefully someday I can make it to one of your classes.

It’s a 3 inch pipe. I think I’ve got the hang of it now despite my video. But it’s funny you mention yankee engineering with the hvac. Great idea I do all the time. I work at Lowes Hardware and pretty soon will do an episode on canoe gear items you can find in the hardware store for less than $10. Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes one just has to fiddle with things to get it together.

Yes you do and each time you do it, it gets faster. Thanks for watching.

Question: By having the stove pipe on the outside of the stove, doesn't creosote drip down ion the stove? Thanks for the video.
@OpenAirOutdoors4 ай бұрын
yes it does, and can ignite on the stove top. Fire in your tent! I hope others read this, be safe folks✌
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide4 ай бұрын
It might. Rare but it would drip on the outside. That’s better than water, if it rains dripping down the stovepipe and into the stove. Thanks for watching.

I would not expect much at all with the clamp on it.

Lisa is right. Her way the cabin monoxide goes. Up the flu pipe the other way lets some escape. The silent killer.

I’ve heard concerns over the carbon monoxide. 2 things that make that not really an issue on a river. You’ll see when you set up this tent there’s nothing airtight about it. You can see the stars through the hole for the stovepipe and the smoke if there is something where the flames not burning clean it’s gonna probably smoke and wake you up you’re not gonna sleep through something and be susceptible like that.

I agree about not being airtight makes it much safer I would not say it isn’t still a concern. I’m a master plumber and know about people being killed from backward vents but they were usually in airtight homes Tents would be much safer. I wouldn’t try to get tent too airtight and would not put vent wrong way. Also doesn’t have to be smoke for carbon monoxide. One big clue is lazy white flames. Love your videos

How's the pipe years later?
