Attila's Workshop

Attila's Workshop

6 жыл бұрын

Now that Christmas has come and gone, and the kids are back at school, I find myself with a little extra free time. So that means a new project can be started. Like many things I've been thinking of making over the years but just never got around to it, a headphone stand being one of them, now finally gets made. It's only a small project but I've taken as much care (if not more so, as being small means I need shoot very closely) as with all the other things I've made. Anyway I'm happy with the result and hope you enjoy the video.
Music: Brittle Rille- Reunited by Kevin Macleod.

Your videos are soothing and put people in a wonderful headspace. The attention to detail is ridiculously... eh... attentive! Love it. I saw your Router Table build and I couldn't be more pleased with the level of craftsmanship. We don't this these days. Everything is mass produced nowadays and nothing is unique. You, my friend, are like the feudal swordsmith that the best would come see to make them the "Excalibur". New Sub. Folks, this is how you get subs. Let your work do the talking. Noticed in the comments below you added a piece of acrylic to broaden the support, which was running through my head while watching...that and button heads. ;-P Otherwise an elegant masterful design and your money shots were bang on. Great work Attila! Love the attention to detail in your craftsmanship, as well as the editing! Would you mind explaining the steps from filing the raw aluminium to the high gloss finished product (ie what grit sandpaper you used, when dry when wet etc?)? I have barely worked with aluminium until now but your videos really sparked something inside of me to also combine wood and aluminium. Keep up the great content and quality! Cheers, Marc
@AttilasWorkshop
@AttilasWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marc, First of all I think everyone should know that working with aluminium is not much more difficult than working with wood. You can use your saw and router on the metal, no problems. In the example here, first the parts are rough cut with jigsaw or rotary saw, then they are filed to shape using various files that be purchased as a set at your local hardware store. Once you are happy with the shape, then the finishing process can begin. If you want to achieve a mirror finish on the part then you can start wet sanding straight away with 120 grit to remove all the saw and file marks. Then progress through 180, 240, 600 and 800 grit till you get a nice smooth, matte finish. Then it's on to the buffing wheels. If you have a nice surface (experience will tell you) then you can use the stitched rag buff with the brown compound until you have an even, highly reflective finish. Then to finish off, use the loose rag buff with the white compound to get a very high shine and finish with a soft cotton cloth (by hand) to complete. I learned to polish just by doing it and learning as I went but of coarse it's not rocket science and you will get the hang of it quickly. Good luck.

No. The two parts are glued together with dowel through the aluminium. I guess if you wanted to, you could fix the wood to the metal with epoxy although I,ve never tried it.
