ATV won't stay running.

Күн бұрынThanks for watching. This ATV was having a problem where it would start and drive but after it stopped it wouldn't stay running. The main culprit of course is the carburetor so after inspecting it it was shown to have some debris and a partially clogged jet. A cleaning was all that was needed for it to get back on the "off road". Thanks again and please consider subscribing.

After watching this video I'm pretty sure it's the idle jet I'm having trouble with. If I sprinkle gas in the carb it fires up and I can ride it all over. But when you slow down too much it just dies.

Nice video - have almost the exact 4 wheeler but its a Shineray. My problem was also that it would not stay running. Removing and cleaning the carb did not work this time like it had in the past. After cleaning it twice with out success I was about to purchase another carb when I unplugged the automatic choke. It's running perfectly now. I had already replaced the spark plug, checked the gas cap and all the vacuum lines. Maybe this will help someone else.

my latest project was an 1975 cub cadet international hydro static lawn tractor that had been sitting for 12 years. after doing much work and a lot of carburetor work I did get it to run and drive. Fast little thing. the funny thing is was that the bowl of the carb was plumb full of dirt and grease!!

Thanks for saying which one is the idle jet. I had my carb apart yesterday cleaning it and could not run wire thru that jet but could blow carb cleaner thru it. It will not idle so I'm going to take it back apart and find a small enough wire to go thru it. I will check it with light like you did.

Idle it down a little bit to keep wear off the motor after seeing that gas change the oil and that's all I can think of that needs done love the channel

Hmm, my atv was serviced in the dealership. They swapped the needle out in the carb, but i am sure they didn't bother checking the jets, because it still dies when idleing. Runs great when i am on the gas though, if the motor is hot enough it will also stay running (i also let the dealership adjust the valves, but who knows if they actually even did it) I have to remove the gas tank to get to the carb, have never worked on them. I think i should just try and clean it out.

I have a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 after a few it will sputter and stall and sometimes take a minute to fire back up

Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. If seems to be running out of fuel. Check the fuel flow thru the lines and filter. Then check that the needle and float is working like it's supposed to.

I have a 2001 suzuki quad runner 250 and it will idle good but when you put it into gear and hit the gas it dies. But if you are lucky enough to get it going when you gear down it dies out

Gotcha. Sounds like the idle jet is clear but your larger running jet is clogged which is strange because its usually the other way around . Have you opened the carb yet?

Got a 07 yamaha and it sat for a while. Guy put a new carb on it. Not oem. And it will run. But does don after Couple minutes. Its weird it seems fine. Then its gasping for gas and dies and wont start and then later on starts back up. My rectifier is getting 13 volts so it's fine. Any suggestions

Do you have a separate tank vent or is it built in to the fuel cap? Also the carb might need adjustment.

replace the carburetor, it's the easiest way to solve your problem.

i have a problem where when i drive my quad for longer distances out of nowhere it loses its power and just shuts down (i have problems with my battery idk if it's related or no but we always have to start it off a car)

Check that the charging system is working properly and I'm guessing the carburetor is the other problem. Is your gas cap original?

Any idea why a brand new atv will stall? Changed gas for the 1st time last night and it stalled for the 1st time after an hour. Now it keeps stalling when its breaked.

Try turning the idle screw in about a full turn. If they doesn't work lossen the gas cap just enough to allow air into the tank to test that the gas tank vent is working.

My four wheeler will turn on but it takes a couple pulls idk why but it’ll go and once I go too fast for a while once I start slowing down it’ll turn off. Is it over heating ??

Hey I need some help with my four wheeler I have a brand new cdi box and carb today it will start but as soon as I give it gas it stumbles hard but will remain running I pulled the spark plug and it is dark black

Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. It seems to be too rich in fuel when you turn the throttle. Is the carb the correct size for the engine or was it meant for a larger engine?

INSIDE HOUSE GARAGE nope it is a after market Honda 300 carb same style as the one that came on it It idles perfect as soon as you give it gas it blows a faint black smoke and just bogs so violent

Hey would you want to help me with my quad? It’s a manual and doesn’t like to idle. When it gets a little hot and it shuts off it doesn’t turn over at all. The fan doesn’t work on it and it leaks radiator fluid like crazy. I’m wondering if it’s the carburetor because when it’s idling on choke it runs just fine. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you have many problems. Yes I believe the carburetor is a problem and needs replacing. Also since the fan isn't working it might also be overheating too.

Hey man i have a question i have 2007 kawasaki bayo 2wd. It usally starts up no problem but when it comes to giving it more gas it bogs down and stalls out. So it doesn't run very well even after i put a new carb in it runs better but still does it alot.

You probably have a leak at the intake manifold. Either at the gaskets or the intake itself. Are there any fuel adjustment screws on the new carb?

They are absolutely fantastic. However you just need to use 100% gas in them,no ethanol whatsoever and don't let them sit for over a month without starting it.

How long does it run? Try loosening the fuel cap. It may not be venting air like its supposed to.

Your carb might need to be adjusted to give more fuel to the engine or your clutch is heating up and not disengaging so it stalls.

you'll need to clear the jets in the carb again, otherwise, buy a new carb.

Hey, I have a problem with my 2003 Kawasaki Mojave, at first it would start only by giving it gas, then I would have to be giving it gas for about 5 mins for it to stay on, but now it is not even turning on.

Try draining some of the gas from the tank and see if there some water in it.

If it was me I would take off the carb and clean it then adjust it once it's back the bike.

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE it has a new 27mm carb i bought it at amazon for $25 what should i do i adjusted it already and when i ride id around for like 5mins i feel like it gets hot then it turns off then it doesnt let me start it right away i have to wait like a min or 2

Mine dies after idling for less than 2 min, it idles strong then it just goes weak and dies, and if I try to just start and go, it goes and then it will idle down and die

have you considered adjusting the carb for more fuel and also adjusting the idle set speed? I find that works well to fix your problem

Coke bottle is fine but you still need an air vent on it. It the bottle completely closed?

My atv starts so bad, i have to pre warm the engine and it wont stay running without giving trothle, i cleaned the carb everysingle time before starting it, i dont know if its a cdi problem , the spark is not that powerfull also

@@cosminvlog4586 so I believe your idle jet I the problem. if have found that compress air will not unblock the tiny hole in the jet. I would either replace the idle jet or if you can't find it , then just replace the entire carb.

Yes the smaller idle jet is clogged. Clean the jet or replace it and it should work.

@@Rimuru_Tempest9999 you mean the hole thru it? Tiny... if I had to guess its got to be 5 or 7 thousandths. I only use compressed air to clear it.

@@brandongarcia1684 as far as the fuel tank issue, more than likely the fuel screen in the main tank is clogged. Can you idle the engine and not move? If not then the centrifugal clutch is broken and is always engaged. Thats the only reason you could push start it

Is the gas fresh? Was there gas in it already. It might be stale.

@@ilzku06 try using starter fluid. If it starts and dies then replace the carb. If it didn't start at all with starter fluid you might have a spark problem.

Dude seriously????? You claim to be a mechanic and you use needle nose vice grips to loosen the throttle nut and an a crescent wrench to take the emulsion tube out...wtf? how about I buy you a set of open end wrenches?
