EQ Download Link and Import Instructions - (Must Have Version 2.4.1 or Newer)
1. In Filter Curve EQ or Graphic EQ" click the Manage button
2. From the dropdown menu click Import...
3. Select your Josh Meyer EQ TXT file and click on Open
(Your curve will then be imported and will be ready for use.)
4. Click Manage
5. Click Save
6. Save as Josh Meyer's Male EQ

-Install a plugin
Windows-
To Install a plugin you'll need to double click your hard drive *Windows (C:)*,
double click program files (x86), double click Audacity, double click Plugins,
then click drag and drop the plugin into the plugin folder.
When you reopen audacity, go to effects and select add/remove plugins. Find the desired Plugin,
click to highlight, click enable, then click OK :)- You will be able to find it in Effects.
Mac-
Click drag and drop the plugin into Audacity's "Plug-Ins" folder at ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins.

Switch to the Finder. Click on the Go Menu.
Press and hold down the Option key on the keyboard.
From the Go menu, select Library, The Library folder will open.
Click Application Support, then audacity, then Plug-Ins.Drop the plugin into the folder.
When you reopen audacity, go to effects and select add/remove plugins. Find the desired Plugin,
click to highlight, click enable, then click OK.

I just started using Audacity about 3 weeks ago and just watched this for the first time along with a few of your other tutorials. Thank you for the type of in-depth , yet simple to follow content that you put out !! I appreciate how you explain acronyms and what certain tools do , and the excitement you seem to have in teaching others ! I have not come up on anything more informative than this man, right here. I have watched a lot of videos on audiobook narration and voice-over artistry. All of them gave some pretty decent hints about start up, the noise floor, and the requirements. However, none that I have seen, have bothered to go into any "In depth" or comprehensible guide to fine tune these requirements. Thank you, SIr. Your video was very informative, and very helpful.

Thanks for the great videos on audacity, It's been a pretty steep learning curve. I have downloaded your ACX checker but for some reason I cannot get it into my analyze folder, I'm using windows. I'm currently on 3.1.3 and I have went to the add/remove plugins and it isn't there to enable. Do you have any suggestions for my computer illiterate skills on rectifying this ?? Thank you in advance......I thought I should add I'm also using a Rodecaster pro saving my audio onto a sd card then transfering it to my computer and running it through Audacity

Tried to download the cvx code for audacity but my windows program wouldn't except it but I believe I was able to put the female voice eq in audacity. Thanks

Josh, your vids have been a huge help to me as I start out. I recently uploaded my first 15 min check point on acx and immediately got a message that it did not pass bitrate or rms, even though the acx check passed in Audacity. I downloaded fre:ac and managed to fix the bit rate. While I did not mess with the rms, my second download passed and publisher loved it and got the go ahead to continue. Have you ever had to adjust bitrate? Thanks again for all you do.

When you’re exporting an MP3 you can select constant bit rate. ACX wants that. You can also Change the kbps. ACX wants at least 192. You can go all the way up to 320 🤙

Thanks for the great information. I downloaded the female EQ version you had attached to your video. Unfortunately, they do not seem to work. It states if is for a different effect, generator or analyzer after I tapped manage and import. Not sure if I am using the file incorrectly. I was just wondering what an EQ voice for a female would do to the audio. :)

Ok I’m gonna try(probably unsuccessfully) to make this a tldr question…but to help me better understand how I should probably approach my issue, how does a noise gate not destroy your noisefloor(make it to low) if your gate is set correctly? If I don’t put a gate on my rms is too high coz obviously u can see the mic meter bouncing when recording but my floor is fine

I cannot get the ACX check plugin to install. I am curious if this is a mac thing, or if it is just mad at me? Everything says to check the Tools menu and select Add/remove plugin, but my tools menu does not have that as an option. Anybody able to help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you Narrate with USB microphone for ACX, and how difficult is it to get the audio settings in compliance with their requirements? Is it difficult to learn , I’m hearing that the audio is why people struggle with .

Can I just ask you a random question lol, You said Noise Gate would help with hushing the annoying breathiness in between sentences and such. Now, I accidently jumped the gun, and deleted a few breaths that I didn't like hearing, and copy pasted some dead noise there to replace it. Is that bad? because it does sound bad, I just noticed that it's not the proper way to do things. Is there a negative connotation to this method?

Ya, it can sound bad in contrast for sure. Noise reduction then noise gate should help the overall sound 😊

Anyone else having trouble with a Noise floor that is too low? No matter what I do, i can't seem to get it to pass the ACX check without it throwing everything else out of whack. All ideas are welcome. Thank you.

@@emmapeel38 I found out that having the first and last empty room sounds in your file being silenced, and having too many silenced parts in general, will kill your noise floor. You can use EQ to bring up frequencies that aren't heard or use Punch Copy/Paste to put room noise where you need quiet instead of silence. Good luck.

@@TheINFJChannel Noise reduction does a similar function and is really simple to use. You just highlight what your ambient (room) noise is without talking. No changing numbers you will see the line get smaller and it can be done multiple times.

Does Audacity fix those sharp, piercing hisses from every hard consonant? I'm cringing cuz it hurts my ears. I don't wanna do that do my listeners once I've started.

Those are sibilance. You might find Josh's 2022 tutorial helpful. You can deamplify or eq them 👍
