Audi A6 3.2 - Starter Replacement

My starter started showing signs of weakness at 200,000 miles. In this video, I am showing how I replaced the starter on my 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro before it dies on me in the middle of nowhere.
REPLACEMENT PART
Starter motor: 06E 911 023 C.
TORQUE SPECS
Starter motor to transmission: 12 mm triple square bolt and 16 mm head bolt, 65 Nm.
Terminal B+ to starter: 13 mm head nut, 16 Nm.
CV axle heat shield to transmission: 6 mm Allen bolts, 23 Nm.
Front ATF pipe brackets to oil pan: 10 mm bolt and nut, 5 Nm.
Rear ATF pipe bracket to transmission: 5 mm Allen bolt: 5 Nm.

The bolt at the back of the starter can be removed from the top of the engine and you could get more room to remove the starter by removing the sway bar bolts. Great video, it helped me replace my starter. Thanks!!!

I actually did it this way, and yes for me it was a lot easier. I couldn't get enough room to break it loose or torque it down from the wheel well. I just removed the air intake pipe from the airbox to the throttle body, and it's right underneath next to the oxygen sensor.

Keli, yet again you solved my problem! I found that little bracket at 2:03 on my garage floor the other day and could not figure out which car or where it came from. I assume that is the transmission pan in your video and will replace it tomorrow. Thanks

great video, thanks for sharing! I'm planning to replace my starter on my Audi A4 3.2 B7 six speed. Every time I go to start my car, I push in in the clutch, turn the key and nothing happens (no crank and hear one click). After 5-10 attempts, it will start but I don't want to be stuck anywhere.

I think it's different and may require you to drop the engine, but I am not totally sure.

3:35 What happens if you forget to disconnect the battery? And if the plus from the starter intersects with the minus from the body?

Most likely a damaged battery. It's like connecting the battery positive (+) to the battery negative (-). There will be sparks. The battery may still function but would have damaged elements inside and it may fail prematurely.

Im having major problems getting the triple square starter bolt broke loose. Is there anything you removed for easier access? I removed the sway bar already.

I did not remove anything else. What you need is the right tools. A long wrench allows to easily break bolts free. If your wrench is short you will struggle. Careful not to strip that bolt.

Found it easier to remove the four anti roll bars nuts gives a bit more room getting the starter out

Yes it would be easier but these nuts are one time use and loosening the sway bar may require additional suspension work so I suggest you pry the starter out like I did if you are not planning any suspension work.
