Bjørn Nyland, @3:11 you were on the right track, “temperature is cold which increases...” then you got side tracked, and said lowers density. That’s called a brain fart. It happens to the best of us.
@garenson
@garenson 5 жыл бұрын
High and low preassure weather systems (not sure what those are called in English) have a much bigger influence on air density than temperature. You can have a bitter cold sunny winter day (like -20C°) and an atmospheric preassure of above 1000mbar or a storm front in summer at >30°C and air preassure dropping below 800 mbar. Yes, warm air at constant preassure is less dense than cold air, but air preassure changes are the bigger influence on air density. That's by the way why turbo charged engines have noticably better performace in cold sunny winter weather. The air is denser because of the high atmospheric preassure AND is denser because the air is also cold. This results in the turbo charger being able to get more oxygen into the engine easier.
@imho7250
@imho7250 5 жыл бұрын
Michael Schulze, the atmospheric pressure rarely increases energy to increase density more significantly than the temperature and humidity. In freezing temperatures. Humidity is zero, and since water is lighter than air, dry air is more dense. Since the wind didn’t appear to be that fast, we can assume the atmospheric pressure is normal. So the altitude is going to be the bigger factor. Sea level (or below) will have higher pressure and density than higher elevations. I don’t think we will get Bjorne to add atmospheric pressure in his tests cycle. Lol

Just checked the X90 test and the figures are about the same, slightly better range for the X (350 vs 330). They're both heavy & tall cars. Although the X is by now a 3 year old model and the Audi is a new one so...i would've expected a better performance by that Audi. Maybe the X and S restyling will bring 2170 battery cells and a lighter battery pack? I'm not sure theres much they can do to enhance efficiency other than using a better performing motor and theyre near the limit with the current one...only a much lighter and compact battery might help. The only way they could lower the X would be by having the battery somewhere else other than the bottom of the car, but they seem to prefer that kind of place

I wouldn't recommend using Audi Matrix-LED on the Autobahn. Its main intention is to be used on country roads. Opels Matrix-LED shuts off above 120km/h and goes to an Autobahn mode to avoid blinding truck drivers. The trucks headlights can't be recognized through the fencing between the roads and therefore it shouldn't be activated.

Wondering still what the range would be colder winter scenarios. For example we have now -15 / - 20 celsius weather here in Finland which can make climate control etc to chugg.

Ever heard of comfort blinking? That tap for 3 blinks has been there since the 2003 audi models

3XICS X is a lot larger?
@brechtthebest
@brechtthebest 5 жыл бұрын
jrherita only 13cm, 4,9m for e tron and 5,0m for model X. So no big difference there. The Kona is only 4,2m long. And when comparing Kona and e-tron , the Kona has a height of 1,57m and width of 1,8m. The e tron on the other hand is 1,62m high and 1,94m wide so a bigger front surface so certainly a lot more drag if both have the same coefficient of drag. The e-tron weighs 2490kg and the Kona EV 1685kg, also a reason for higher consumption of the Audi.

@@3XICS yes it happens in a way with everything. People sometimes are no open to change unless you offer something else than your rival that has been doing the same thing for years, but now with all the know how you don't have. However even if the results are "good" they are not great. I think the first proper german electric car is going to be the ID or the taycan, whoever cames first.

@@3XICS Model X does 0-60 in 2.9 and is using induction motors. The Audi system is just bad. They are at least 5 years behind Tesla.

Harsh winter conditions at -5°C ! That's spring in Canada. Try it in a 15cm snow storm with -21°C like we had last weekend. That's real winter conditions.

LOL, yeah many people in the States don't use blinkers. I'm from Asia and everyone use blinkers there, it almost made me feel like blinkers are not required the US driving laws, or people never pass their driving exams...

2700kg gonna be quite heavy on the tires, not that the Model X is much lighter but still...that range isnt really surprising given the weight and drag coefficient.

jerry kurata I think this is an insider joke. Before the embargo was lifted, Bjorn was not even allowed to confirm or deny that the e-tron had blinkers... ;)
