Great video and something I have to do now compared to leaving to for a while longer. My rear subframe and everything is badly rusty. Getting myself another subframe to do this to then when the time comes I can rip the old 1 out and stick the new 1 in all painted and bushed up

I’ve always replaced failed bushes with poly replacements, but as said I’ve always wanted the car for performance over comfort

Have you considered showing how to remove the rear trailing arm and replacing those bushings?

I’m waiting for someone I know why needs to do them and then film them doing it. It’s quite involved as a lot has to be removed.

Adrian Jakeman it’s not something I would do personally, I only work on my car and family’s if I have to haha. Garages charge a varied amount. The question is, how on earth did you get the cross brace support for the diff in between the strong flex bushes? I've been at it an hour with prybars...

Just wondering if u could feed the old bushes out in a similar way to the way u put the new ones in ? Like an oversized bolt and save u cutting mate

I’ll be honest with you, cutting them, using a 10 tonne press or burning them out is about the only 3 ways they will find out. Mine had covered 182k miles and were well and truely seized in there 😂. If you have a couple of metal cup shaped items you could use. One that’s too big and one that’s similar size to the edge of the busy you could maybe wind them out but I had to nearly use the full 10 tonne to get them out on mine with the press

Hi awesome videos...what would be the most efficient way of getting the driveshaft connected back to the rear end? Would removing the centre bearing carrier give you enough room to get the propshaft back in the rear diff?

Thanks buddy, Usually that doesnt give you quite enough room if both front and back are on tight, if you have the rear end loose then yeah should be fine. if you have everything on tight and just the prop out you may have to loosen the dog bone and pry the engine slightly forward

Have you got the torque settings for putting the rear subframe and diff back together?

Subframe to body is 100nm +90 degrees ( 1/4 turn) the others I couldn’t confirm as not done them yet. Will put them up when done

It is yes buddy, just need to get it high enough to get a jack Under the rear subframe to then be able to lower it down as awfully heavy and awkward

Where did you get these poly bushes from? And is it true it firms up the handling a bit?

Benjamin Whiteley the brand I used are called strong flex, and purchased from eBay. Polyurethane bushings are firmer than rubber, so it doesn't flex or deflect as much as rubber. By reducing the excess suspension movement, polyurethane makes the suspension more efficient and more responsive to the driver.

i am looking to to get my S3 8p upgraded to poly bushes later , but do they make any real difference to that of the original rubber ones ? thanks for any help on this .

It all depends on what you use the car for, on a road car new rubber will be perfectly fine, polys would be wasted, but on track they offer that reduced flex and will last longer when put under added stress

Hi, related but not. Do you need to remove the subframe to remove the rear diff? I've just bought the car and the rear diff fill plug is totally round

You can fill from the bottom you just have to be quick with the plug haha. It’s easier to remove the whole thing as getting to it is hard

I used 90% strong flex bushes, only ones used from powerflex range was cookbot bushes in arms and suspension top mounts. I rate them, do the job well with no issues

Most of the parts are hollow, arent they? If you blast and paint them from the outside it will rust from the inside out? Most specific the trailing arms (if they are called like that) What can be done to prevent it?

Your right, its hard to know 100% what's going on inside certain parts, the arms you can see down into them and usually are not too bad, bit of chassis sealer does the trick.

How much did all of it cost you? Now that the TT is discontinued, I am skeptical getting an used 2007 TT having MOT advisory like this for the last 3 years Offside Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement Trailing arm (5.3.4 (a) (i)) Rear subframe and suspension arms corroded

I would not worry too much as many manufacturers will produce these bushes for many years to come, individually a standard bush can be anywhere from £15-£30 the worst part is the labour depending on if you do it yourself or someone else does it it could cause you a few hundred pounds

HELLHAMMER 35 They are all exactly the same length same shape take the same bushes etc, couldn’t see a part number on them however they all equal

@@TheParrottBros cheers mate, such a simple piece of information but very hard to come by, the parts stores are saying left upper right lower etc, which i thought was bollocks..where do they normally fail, as mine are a bit crusty but think they will clean up

HELLHAMMER 35 they usually tend to fail if the bush seizes at the end, it usually snapped the end off that’s when you see the wheel pointing into the arch in photos where people have said they have failed

@@anthonynewcome128 hi mate just seen this comment, from what I recall, post-facelift (2002) cars have the same length rear control arms, however the pre-facelift had a 4mm discrepancy (think 1 was 515, the other 519mm). If you are looking to dial out some of the negative camber at the rear, move the longer one to the top :)

Eddy they are made by “strong flex polyeurthane components” not fitted as of yet, going to be fitting front and rear subframes, turbo back exhaust and all new rear end once this lockdown is complete. The bushes themselves are a good quality. Thanks for watching

I was told poly Bushing your parts was bad as they seize up after time. So I will be going all original Bushings apart from hard mounts. This was information from a well known bloke who sets up drift cars. We were chatting when he was setting up a rx7 said these poly bushes are shit I'm putting the original ones in as they don't bind. The trouble is the Bush sticks out more than the sleeve so that they fail.

Kiel Armour, it all depends on who you speak to and what you intend to do with the vehicle. Rubber bushes have more give in them than poly bushes, therefore if you would use them for say fast road or track use they will wear out quicker and failed quicker, on the flipside they are harder and will make it more uncomfortable should you want to use the car daily. So it does depend on what you want. Replacing tired bushes for stock original bushes will certainly tighten the feel of the car no doubt.

@@TheParrottBros I was talking to the guy that works at caffeine and machine all he does is setup cars. He said don't bother with poly bushes only on hard mounts. I get that on track it's the way to go. I did look into super pro bushes as they don't protrude past the sleeve seem to be better than most brands. But like a say I'll be sticking with original on things that don't twist. Love the vids as I have a tt my self plan on doing a lot of work to it weekend toy.

Kiel Armour they are brilliant fun cars, I get what your saying and new original bushes will improve the car as no doubt a 15 year old car will have tired rubber bushes. Plenty more mods and upgrades coming soon :)

Hey great post finally been waiting for someone to do this 🤩🤩.. I’m nearly at end of collecting all new OE Audi parts for my tt Mk1 v6.. nuts and bolt job .. new rear trailing arms 😳😳.. have all new OE bushes of course .. it’s not going to be a track day car.. so ploy or not to ploy is my question guys 🤔

daniel nathan New OE bushes will certainly tighten in up compared to the 15-20 year old bushes on there. Poly bushes will introduce more stiffness, but that comes at a cost of additional noise, vibration and harmonics. For a track car it’s no issue but for a nice road car may make it a bit too much.
