Im not gloating, but that salt smeg must eat at everything 24-7..!! Here in Australia, they just changed the classic road registration from 30 to 25 years. My 2001/1/1 is close to a classic.! LOLs the Mk1 TT has all the early groundbreaking technologies to make it an ultimate classic. Sure it took deaths on the AutoBahn, but they collaborated to make all cars safer.

great video from new home. I am a Mk2 TTS owner and bought a complete rear sub frame from a breaker for the reasons you outlines. I also used a fine ceramic sander on a multi tool to remove all rust quickly before smearing all surfaces with a thick layer of lanolin. This I bought in 1 kg tubs off ebay. Providing A cheap thick layer which takes loads of projectiles.

Thanks buddy, it’s a question I see often where garages dont want to take on a refurb they just want to fit parts. The issue with doing it your self is once you’ve disabled the car on your drive or wherever then it just sits till you’ve got everything sorted, so could be off the road months 😂

Thanks for the video Dom. One thing I am unhappy with is my suspension (I have bought Gaz coilovers about half a year ago) and I may be blaming coils when it could be caused by suframe and bushes. I may start with the back myself or give Bryn a call (I'm also in the middlands).

Great video and good timing, this is my winter project to drop the rear subframe, blast and rust treat it, replace the bushes etc. I was just going to hammerite or chassis paint the frame once the rust was removed and treated but considering getting the powder coating done now, does it really offer a better level of protection than paints ? Thanks!
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros Жыл бұрын
The right powder coating should be tougher than most paints as its heat treated on, its likely what was on most parts from the factory it just deteriorates over time, you can use a good quality rust treatment then just use POR15, that is my go to paint if your not going to powdercoat :)

Great video, I've just bought an Audi TT 3.2 roadster.I love it so far but the MOT came up with an advisory. 'subframe corroded but not seriously weakened' I'm a bit worried about how to tackle it as I dont have the practical skills or knowledge. I don't even know what the advisory means. Help me please lol .
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros Жыл бұрын
Hey Beth! firstly congratulations on TT ownership, So basically the subframe corroded means that its rusty but not enough that its dangerous, However left untreated will rust and a hole will appear which will then be a fail, Depending on how bad it is you have 2 options, get your one treated and some rust prevention paint /coating applied or if its past that over the next year you may need to get a new one fitted.

The 1.8t & 3.2 subframes are different, only slightly but none the less not compatible if you want to have an undertray! On the 3.2 subframe it has 2 raised blocks with threads in them to hold up the Metal undertray, the 225 one does not have this as it has a plastic undertray thats a different shape

how hard would it be to convert a v6 undertray to fit a 1.8 you think?

Not easy as it had multiple large bolt fixings that a 225 just doesn’t have the threads for. Plus isn’t really benefitting as it doesn’t protect the underside much more than the 225 one, still has an open slot at lowest point
