►Audi turbocharger replacement is one of those jobs you hope you don't have to do during your ownership, but there's a good chance you will. On the EA888 engine found in the MLB platform cars and SUVs such as the Audi A4, A5, S5, allroad, and the Q5 featured in this video, one of the most common problems is wastegate rattle.
While turbocharger replacement is a job with many steps, don't let that intimidate you. With our replacement turbochargers and the associated turbocharger replacement kit containing all the parts you need to do the job, half of the work is done for you. The other half is simply following Aaron Davis' step-by-step instructions in this DIY.

Most KZfaq DIY mechanic videos are 99% psychobabble. Unlike those, this video is beneficial and pain-free. Arron's professionalism is appreciated beginning with identifying the kit and tools needed, and without wasting time, he goes into a well-lit visual with clear corresponding instructions. Thank you,

@@davenone7312 Sorry but I just did mine and only jacked up passenger side about 16” enough to lay under and undo lines. It’s easy to reach everything. Although I found it easier to r&r violent banjo line from block by doing it from the top just holding turbo up and out of the way.

This was a great video, thank you very much for making this video, i would have watched it like 100 times at this point lol. I’m not a mechanic but took this hobby of fixing my car myself and this tutorial helped a lot. I was not so lucky in not having that middle bolt on that heat sink and took me half a day just to get it off 😂. This is just me others could say otherwise but please don’t fast forward any part it helps to see which way you wrench lmao, I’m not a mechanic. Also side note to anyone trying to get bolts off easy, do not use wd40 or any other flammable liquid to spray, it smokes a lot when you turn the car on, it took me a while to get all that gunk evaporated. Great video, keep making them, thanks!

that's a very nasty job on that car. A friend of mine did one of those for a KZfaq viewer of his about 7 years ago and I don't think he has any intentions on doing anything like that again on an Audi or VW anytime in the future. I have a friend who has one of each and when he had the timing belt done we took it to a guy I know up the line who is a master Audi technician and has an indoor lift and jack, and does them all the time. Every man's gotta know his limitations. Yes they are expensive cars to repair and it's not something that I would advise anybody to buy who is not willing to work on their own cars and/or is on a tight budget.

Just finishing up doing this job now. Excellent video! A few things to note: The lower manifold nuts were removed, but the replacement of them wasn’t mentioned. You can install those nuts and brackets on the studs and torque then down before installing the turbo. To remove an install the catalytic converter bracket bolt, a flex head 3/8 ratchet is very helpful. The most difficult part of this job is installing the coolant line to the block with the M12 triple square, getting both gaskets in and tightening it down in a very cramped space. You really need a stubby 3/8 ratchet for that, or extremely tiny hands.

Pretty helpful, I have just done it over last few days. The biggest bummer was lack of proper tools, I think it is worth mentioning you need a very short triple squares to be able to get to most of the places from the bottom. I have done it with the normal ones and it was very difficult. Also I wasn't able to get to that coolant line just because my triple square would not fit in so I have ended up taking a coolant line from the turbo and I was able to get that out. If I would do it another time it would probably just take me a day as I would know what to do and what tools I need.

This video helped me out a lot currently working on one as this is my first time. I’m still little confused on the lower exhaust manifold nuts. Did you loosen up the nuts or take them out completely ?? And left those plates on the car ?? Did you slide out the the whole unit and then just slide the whole assembly back in between those lower exhaust manifold plates? I took them off completely becuause I had trouble getting the whole turbo assembly out. So can I put those lower plates on as slide the turbo back in?? Sorry for long comment just trying to make this job easier lol thank you and really great video😊🙌🏼

@@fcpeuro I'm so embarrassed to ask for your advice. But I need help, I got ripped off and being a chick makes it easy. I bought my 2011 Audi A4 brand new. My check engine light came on years later. They told me bad waste gate and said over 5,000 to fix. I missed the Audi warranty by 2 months and 3,000 miles over. Sick about that. I didn't want to fork out 5000 to fix it, when my car is barely worth 5000. And it drove fine. So I ignored and drove on it, for over a year. Then one late night, my car illuminated 'too low of oil to drive" and at time my oil sensor was chewed on by rodents and wasn't working. So I poured 1 and half liters of oil in car, started it and it smoked like crazy, just bailing out the exhaust. I shut the engine off and had it towed to this auto shop. I told them what happened. I asked them how much they charge to replace turbo. He quoted me 3500. So I agreed. Which was late Thursday, Auto shop calls me next day at 1pm and tells me it's ready.. That seemed very odd to me because this isn't a turbo place. They would have to order it from somewhere. Or find one in Las Vegas. Anyways, I asked them how long the turbo warranty is. They said 2 years. When I left there,, my car drove the very same exact way as it did when I brought the car there. Except for them draining out the oil, I know they didn't put a turbo in my car. My car still smoked a little from the under the hood and the check engine light remained on. I called him to tell him, he said "well I'm sure it would after all that oil." I learned a lesson for trusting these people and not asking to see the turbo that they took out of my car.. I was scared to take my car to them, having no proof that they put a new turbo in and refused to have them ask for more money for things they weren't doing. Skip to a year later and now my turbo is finished. I feel like I have the proof now,, but being a chick, I'm hoping it just the bad turbo.. I gunned the accelerator trying to get out of traffic one day and it said no way, started thumping a bit and was very slow. So my car is in front of my house and I'm going to tow it to that dreadful place that pulled a fast one on me. Can you please give me some advice. I would hate to have them tell me it's something else and I have to pay more big bucks, while they use that money to get my car a turbo. Thank you for your videos and such important information that surely helps us immensely. You are awesome and decent, I can tell.

I know people who’ve had them go bad at just 40k miles. It’s absolutely ridiculous. For a supposed high end car with German engineering their quality control is garbage. You could buy 2 identical e brand new audis and drive them the exact same, and have a part last 20k miles on one and 150k miles on the other. They really should offer a warranty or recall since Audi parts go so quickly. You will never make it past 100k miles and not have something break. I just passed 100k miles. I had my timing chain go at 70k $2,000+. Then my catalytic converter go at 80k. Another $2,000+. And now my turbo charger is going at 100k miles and that’s another $2,000+. I eventually wised up and brought it to a private euro mechanic who did it for half the price the dealership wanted.
