I had the honor of visiting Arlington late last year. I paid my respects to Audie Murphy and others. His grave is not far from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. I was surprised that his grave stone was just as plain as the other veterans buried there. I had thought that his grave would be more decorated as he himself had become. I believe that he wouldn't have wanted his memorial to be any more special than the others. God bless him and all the others who served in all the nation's conflicts.

I went to Arlington Cemetery famous today and l was very impressed However I'm also very disappointed that Audie Murphy is hardly acknowledged except for a poster style picture at the exit. I think this is an utter disgrace and I'm very disappointed. Surely his life story should be told. He was after all America's most decorated soldier ever and was a good humble peaceful man who was instrumental in bringing about the recognition and treatment of PTSD. It's no wonder he suffered with it himself. Shame on the powers that be. I am so surprised and shocked that America does not honour him more than nearly not at all. He was an still is a true hero.
@charlottethompson27254 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I was shocked that so little was said about Audie. "and to your left is the grave of Audie Murphy the most decorated soldier of WWII." But you know, his grave is the second visit next to JFK.

Was his life worth more than the others buried there? Everyone that is buried there was a hero, either to their family and friends or to the others they served with.

True and it's so sad. I did make sure that my nephews knew about him. When they were children they loved watching "To Hell and Back". All three are in the Air Force now. I served in the Army but I'm proud of them. The eldest is a lieutenant while his younger twin brothers are in ROTC. I'm making sure my grandnieces know who Audie was too. 🙂

He was a boy who became a man very early in life. He was great, but he lived. There were many other soldiers who died, and no one wrote up a commendation for them from that generation. He was a brother to some of the finest men this country has ever produced. I sometimes wonder how great this country would have been if more of these men survived.

I have become an Audie Murphy fan. Moreso now, than when I was a kid. I find his acting to be quite good. He is natural. He plays his roles in an understated, and believable way. He never overacts, which I think some of the greats did -- like Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. His range was limited. He could never do Streetcar Named Desire, for instance. At least, I don't think so. Yet, his performance in Red Badge of Courage was moving and amazingly skilled.

What gets me is a lot of men did the same thing as Audie but were not as lucky and were killed in action. Audie did get wounded twice. Lets remember the U.S. Army needed a hero too ! Even tho Audie Murrpy deserved being a hero so didn't a lot of people and Audie knew this. That generation at that time in history was very very tough and their up bringing show in WW2.

Steve Maviver Lt Jack Knight was killedin action Feb 2 1945. His dad my great uncle received Jack's medal of honor on June 6 1945. He was the only MOH receipitant in that conflict opening the road to Burma. Audie Murphy was a great hero and did great things for the veterans. Just thought I would put in a note about another man who was a hero in the eyes of the men he served with. He was one that laid down his life for the freedom we have today.

Good actor, then again it can't be hard to portray a hero when you are one! He was a very handsome guy too, and his masculinity came through the screen. I hate that he suffered so much. I hope we can keep America's history of heroes alive. They did a real disservice in this video by dubbing this awful voice over his in this video.

Hollywood was famous for recycling footage and fil sets. When researching the 3 Stooges, Moe Howard said that they would have to right a script around a movie set that was left over from filming before it was dismantled. I believe that he sustained seven wounds during the battle including one in the leg that they thought would have to be amputated, but he eventually recovered from it and went on to Hollywood with a very slight limp.

You know it's a shame the only way they learned about Audie Murphy is that by either being in the army he's not even in the history books anymore like when I was going to school I mean it is a crying shame that so-called Americans are twisting and defacing the truth of our own history so to all you American Patriots if you ever need to look up the somebody look up the audie-murphy Ronald Reagan but I like what Reagan said with the true heroes they just don't know where to look at the Rolling Hills of Arlington if you ever get a chance to go to Arlington National Cemetery guys you really need to go
@mikeyoung98102 жыл бұрын
History tends to be based on your perspective as to whether you believe what's true or not and it's often not black and white but shades of grey. These days, 3 years after you posted this, the truth is continually twisted and ignored all in the name of doing what someone thinks is best. And often the things we should be ashamed of and want to change aren't told because people only want to hear what they believe. So truth is often painful but it must be heard and taught.

According to The official Marine Corps recruitment manual, although the Corps does prefer males taller than 5'8", and women above 5'4", any male or female who, despite being no taller than 5 feet tall, males must weigh 148 lbs, and women must weigh 128 lbs, AND be able to preform all required physical ability tests for their entrance level fitrep., which is not much harder than passing a fitrep for entrance into any bra branch of the armed forces.
