I bought a power conditioner mainly due to fear of power surges. I also have a whole house surge protector being installed along with 200amp upgrade to my home. Reason for my fear in surges is due to a incompetent electrician working on a home a couple of houses down and blew out 16 homes. I had to replace most of my appliances, including heater, 70 inch TV, etc. The kicker is nothing was on at the time but the surge was so large it damaged everything that was plugged. Everyone says a power conditioner effects sound quality but honestly I have not heard any diminished sound, in fact I'll go so far as say it has improved it. Bottom line IMO is don't knock it till you try it!

What is your thoughts on using a variable power supply? Those things are made for labs to use so they are really accurate in how much current and voltage they produce. And because it is creating it's own voltage, it shouldnt be affected by other appliances sharing the home circuit, right? I may be misinterpreting how everything works, but the electricity in my house is really old and fluctuates wildly- so I am trying to find a solution that doesnt break the bank

Subbed. Good presentation, especially the recommendation on getting a dedicated line- often these cost less than most power conditioners. I'd also recommend purchasing a meter to measure noise on the electric mains. We flip properties and I always measure noise on the mains when looking at a new place. At these places, some measurements will max out the meter's measurement capacity. I usually see this situation in condos. If the power is fairly clean, no conditioner is necessary. If it is not then look at some conditioners, however even these vary in their effectiveness so make sure you can try-before-you-buy. FWIW, I 've been into audio for almost 50 years, am a former reviewer at the SoundStageNetwork and am an electric systems technician.

When I turn up the volume on my sound card my speaker sizzles, does that fall into the "noise" category? where is it just a software problem that I need to fix? (ex buffer size / driver ...)

I don't have noise as such. Stereo System can sound excellent at times but there are periods of flattening of soundstage. Would a power conditioner help? Do power conditioners have a sell by date?

it's funny that I have ground loop. I can feel the current on the ddc dac amp. And power conditioner strip is one of the cheapest one for me to buy. Some belkin surge cost almost the same. And the power conditioner i bought has a universal plug and that's crucial for me since my gears consist of EU UK and US plug.... lol

I have the problem I can't fix. My speaker sound statically, and scratchy, I have three different sets (Elec, Polk both are new, Old set of Maggs. Amp/intergrade Yaqin ms-20l, Mcintosh 6900 (has been service, was thinking this was the issue) and belles ref 350. Change all cables (power speaker). Source DAC, and CD player (sent signal straight to preamp or integrated amp). Got a Monster Power AV unit, still same old problem. Thinking its got to be power from the wall socket ?

I used to have a loud thud type noise when I started my amp, after buying my first power cable I couldn't believe the difference it made, I had tried many wires and own 5 good quality ones, my advise to u is , for ur amp this is a must, it matters than any other wire, this audio world is a confusing place and if u need help u can reach out to me, I'll help u out , btw the sound was totally gone after getting a better cable, try it out, I suggest mogami there cables are very high end and very affordable

In reality, cleaning up "dirty electric" is usually negligible to zero in the vast majority of so-called power conditioners. I have an expensive Furman PL-PLUS DMC Power Conditioner and the dirty electric signal in my wall outlet is 56 mV and any outlet on the Furman itself is worse at 169 mV. So yeah, according to my Greenwave EMI Dirty Electricity Meter, the Furman is NOT cleaning up the dirty electricity.

Just use a cheap good servo controlled voltage regulator for your hi-fi system is the only right thing to do. Do NOT connect any other electronics including some streaming gadgets and dacs together with your amp and cd player as some Components are built with switching power supply that may needs isolation. The good AVR adjusted to the operating voltage of your equipment will optimise good results. Your approach should be : HOW ACOUSTIC MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS SHOULD SOUND.

You can only hear the difference after you spend thousands and your brain tells you "you really hear it". The dissonance of expensive resonance outlay is a must, just repeat until you believe it. Thanks for good honest info.

@iampuzzleman282
@iampuzzleman282 2 жыл бұрын
I think this video misses the point. Most people don't have widely fluctuating voltage most people don't have hums. It's all about reducing the noise floor of the quality of the music. Further lots of interference occurs after electricity leaves the wall.
@matthewlapczynski5012
@matthewlapczynski5012 8 ай бұрын
Well, to my understanding, "electricity" flows around the cable, not actually through it. So if you are in an environment that has lots of electrical noise in it, change the environment.

If people are truly serious about their audio and getting the best and cleanest sine waves from their AC power i would truly recommend an AC Regenerator. That is where it is at my friends. I speak the truth. They make a huge difference. It is not a tweak.

Yes but he is correct in that the cause of noise can be literally anything. I have power conditioners and balanced cables etc too, but they would do nothing if other causes were present like worn out cables and connectors, bad placement of certain types of devices and many more potential issues.
