Arendal Sound is a Norwegian based loudspeaker company that you likely never heard of but should pay more attention to based on our findings. The 1723 Monitor is a THX Ultra rated bookshelf speaker that has tower like bass performance down to the mid 30Hz region and prodigious output able to hit reference peaks of 105dB at 12ft in a 3,000 Ft^3 room (or 117dB at 1 meter). Best of all, they measure very well, look and sound great. Their 60-day trial period, inclusive shipping and 10-year makes them one of the best values in high performance loudspeakers today. Watch our video to learn more.

These are my bucket list endgame speakers, built my first budget system for 2 grand over the last year (5.2 w reciever factored in) catching deals with stuff half off and let me tell you... I have the itch now! I can't wait to have a homerun setup, what I appreciate most about this brand is the fact that they fill every category. What I mean by this is something like polk, they do not have good subs or surround speakers, they have great floorstanding and bookshelves but that's about it. If you want a matching system you can't do it with them, Arendal have killer looking speakers for a full theater setup! Thanks for the great review.

Some small directivity mismatch around 1500Hz but otherwise very solid. My main gripe is that for their center channels they simply post the measurements of these MTM bookshelves, so the wrong orientation, which is misleading. But I have to commend them for posting measurements of most of their speakers and CEA-2010 data for their subs.

I have a pair of satin white 1723 Towers powered by a Rotel RB-1572 and an NAD C658 and I really love this setup. The bass is insane and mids and highs are smooth as long as I don't play too loud. I'm having acoustical issues in my livingroom. 🙈🙉 I have 2 SVS-PC4000s too but for music they aren't really necessary.

I was this close to getting these 1723 towers and then switched to Atlantic Technology 8600 speakers. Haven’t regretted it because my only reservation with the 1723 is that they are NOT 3-way but 2.5 way, and that the rear-ports would prevent me from placing them close to the wall. That being said, I’m sure they sound astonishing!

Really intriguing speaker for my living room in white ( non HT) and my wife’s living room is in white. Only thing is rear port, really messes up bookshelf mounting, and/or n Ed’s to come out into room more from wall, to properly get port away from wall/corner. They seem real nice, I’m really digging the chart standard you guys are using with the dispersion, and acoustic power curves at the bottom. I’m always curious about this style of 2 way design and if any mid-performance is lost in transitioning from a tweeter to a 8” driver. Or if a 3” mid would bring an advantage. Maybe a power compromise between hitting midrange THX level output, and preserving crossover fidelity. Maybe none
@FOH3663
@FOH3663 3 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right, good observation... a key potential weak point to such a two-way is the upper end of the LF driver, and lower end of the HF driver. The big waveguide helps the lowest range of the tweeter... but it establishes a sizable c-t-c distance creating lobing nulls. That said, the upper range of the LF drive unit is likely key to quality playback. It really needs to be clean... ie., clean and minimal ringing noise seen via CSD measurement. Another challenge jumping from a big cone to a 1" dome is beamwidth discontinuities. Again, the waveguide for the win, but the cone is fighting physics with directivity. The addition of a dedicated midband driver, making it a three way can certainly help, but it also adds an another layer of complexity to the crossover. There's so many newer drivers typically offering great performance and control of the cone misbehavior.
@SwirlingDragonMist
@SwirlingDragonMist 3 жыл бұрын
@@FOH3663 awesome! I also wonder about how important it is for the mass of the driver to be proportional to the wavelengths of it’s operating band. I’ve recently been feeling that I may be more satisfied with something light and responsive, rather than slow and powerful. But I feel that thinking may be a misconception, and that overall sensitivity supersedes concerns over the driver mass. Speaker A could be lighter than speaker B but also be larger. Or if a coil adds weight, but the magnet adds responsiveness, then the big one could outshine the small one, and provide more cone area at the same time. But I haven’t been hands on with enough speakers to observe any trends relative to size or type. So I’m reluctant to embrace theoretical rules of thumb, even those that make sense to me. In the system I’m building now, I have 7 tower speakers, each with dual bass drivers, most of them are dual 8” but 2 of them are dual 6.5” they go down to 45hz and the 8’s to 35hz but if I cross them all over at 80hz which set would sound better the 8” or the 6.5” They also have identical mids and tweeters. The infinity Beta series.
@FOH3663
@FOH3663 3 жыл бұрын
@@SwirlingDragonMist All I know about mass relative to performance is sensitivity. Read Eric Alexander's work on the subject, I believe he's applied for a patent... regardless of it's veracity. Your question hits at the heart of loudspeaker design; everything matters, and the designer must balance the attributes they're striving for. There are few pursuits as all encompassing as loudspeaker design. Physics, materials science, acoustics, fluid dynamics, electrical/electronics engineering, auditory perception and psychology, pyscho-acoustics, mechanical engineering, etc, etc.... Chineese philosopher Confucius say;... "in transduction of electric energy into enjoyable sound, the craftsman wears many hats" Yep, speaker design, that's his most widely known quote of wisdom. His rarely known quotes include; Before embarking on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves.

Sadly, due to delays in China, they won’t be with me until late August (ordered back in June).

I just ordered them as well. I was torn between the B&WCT 7.3 front stage and 7.5 rear stage but I decided to go with the arendal 1723s monitor theater package. I’m waiting as well for them. Right now I’m trying out the SVS ultra theater package.

@@darrelltchir284 I’m still waiting on the towers. I got the Ultra center,surrounds, height and rear speakers, and PC2000 and 1 PB3000. As of now, I’m not too happy with the center, the surrounds are really good and fill up the space. The towers were shipped separately and were lost during the first shipment. As i keep reading more abs more about the Arendals, I think I’ll end up with the Arendal 1723s package. It arrive on the 18th. I was expecting more from the center channel. It’s better than my B&W HTM-62-S2, but not by a lot. The B&W Ct 7.3 is what I really wanted but they’re a bit more than I want to spend and SpareChange did a review on the 7.4s and said the Arendals have a bit more depth to them.

Im in the UK looking to move from Klipsch 500c and R-625FA towers, to 3 Arendal 1723s for the front soundstage, (I have a couple of SVS PB1000's subs that's more than enough bass for me) and currently own Emotiva BasX A3 and A4 power amps to suppliment my Denon X6700H. But I cannot seem to get the Arendal site to open to view, I plan on getting the 3 Arendel's next year 2023. Could anyone give me a price guide on the 1723s.

I really would love to give these speakers a new place in my system. The biggest issue for me and perhaps many others is the "60 day" trial. IF, for some reason they need to be returned, it will cost $360.00 (15% x $2499.00) out of pocket to return these. It's just to much of a hit to give them a try. Arendal needs to set up a distributor in the USA. I really believe their sales would be boosted and more people would try and buy them. So far they have not responded to me. That's a large chunk of money to loose. Arendal, if your reading this, expand you distribution area. This is the only reason I'm holding back on my purchase.

Based on the list you have the Arendale by a mile. Klipsch will be bright and non-linear (I know I have had 2 gens of Klipsch) the Focal will lack bottom end, but awesome high end and if pushed hard will sound hollow, likely due to cabinet resonance. The only other speakers close to the Arandale in linearity at this price point are Revel F206 and Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G that I have found.

I wonder how these compare to the Monolith series by Monoprice, that are also quite large, THX certified, and are value priced. @@danielwander605 I have the Monolith 465T towers are I'm totally satisfied. They are smooth sounding and very dynamic and extend low (29hz). I too was impressed by the build quality. I'm sure Arendal put more money into the cabinet finish but that also comes at a cost. I'd be VERY interested to see (hear) how the Monolith 365T compare to the 1723 S (model with 6.5' drivers). At $2k/pair (double the cost), I would expect the 1723's to outperform the Monolith 365's, but by how much? As stand alone speakers, the Arendals can extend much lower when sealed, but add in a sub and crossover at 80hz (recommneded by THX) and I wonder how much of a difference one would see... if any

@@marcusmcmurray77 I agree about the low end. It’s nice to have a speaker that can dig a bit but in a home theater application it probably doesn’t matter that much. Besides build quality and look the only difference is probably the wave guide in the arendal. Not sure if that makes a huge difference or not. I just loved the look of the arendals and like the obscurity of the brand and went with them. However, I’m huge monolith fan: I have the processor, a 7 channel amp, the 4 in wall speakers, and a DAC for a small 2 channel setup. I have no doubt that those towers are performers close to par with the Arendal and other more expensive brands.
