AudioThing Dub Filter is based on the filter design used in the popular AudioThing Alborosie Dub Station plugin (now discontinued), and is inspired by the legendary King Tubby ‘Big Knob’ (KTBK) high pass filter, very influential in dub and reggae. That KTBK filter was based on the Altec 9069B high pass filter. Of course, you can use this kind of filter in all kinds of music production / noodling, and here I am using it on drone and techno drums.
🟧 Basic App / Plugin Description from the manual
Dub Filter is a filter plugin modeled after King Tubby’s iconic “Big Knob”, a passive 18dB/octave high-pass filter with eleven frequency steps from 70Hz to 7.5KHz. This filter defined the sound of the entire ‘roots’ era of Jamaican music.
On top of the main stepped Frequency knob and the Impedance (resonance), the filter also offers control over its behavior including Magnetism, Character, Dynamics, and Artefacts controls.
We have also included two modulation sources, LFO and Envelope Follower, to enhance the creative possibilities of the plugin, from rhythmic pulsations to organic filter movements.
Dub Filter is available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), and also as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store.

Love the stepping filter sound. I like to do that in Drambo by locking filter cut off frequency to specific steps.

This is the same King Tubby filter that was in the (sigh) retired Alborosie Dub Station. People at Audiothing were so generous and honest to give owners of Alborosie DS a free copy on PC. Such a pity I would have liked it for iPad, since on PC I practically already own it ☺

@gm-kp8is tbh, what that really requires is direct support on Patreon from viewers, and for more devs to sponsor vids. The latter is the most important change needed in this space. Making walkthroughs on iOS apps is so niche that KZfaq views will never ever be enough, really. Sad but true!

@gm-kp8is it can be soul destroying yes, which is why I almost quit a few months ago. I’ll give it this year to see if I can make it work. About sponsorships, well, basically devs in this niche have been spoilt by people doing stuff for free for too long, but I am trying to change that, and I hope my fellow youtubers in this niche will also step up and say enough is enough! Some devs are open to sponsoring, and the community also needs to support through Patreon etc if they have the means. Lack of viewer support on Patreon is even more soul crushing than lack of dev support tbh. I have a mere 25 paying supporters on Patreon 🤷

I love dub (Sly and Robbie, Scientist etc) but haven't been tempted to try to make any iOS dub. However, this looks potentially useful for producing different types of sound.

Question . Jf my controller which has a rep if being a high end effects performer with over 26 effects . Being digital will have compression as limiting parameters to frequencies can be solved with using a decent analogue mixer should i change my mixer ? My mixer is an ecler Nuo 2 ..a friend said that my mixer is good enough ? Like i can put separates like the filter above connect audio interface ( i got the reloop reflux ) then play the filter via my controller ? Or even old echo chamber into the reloop and use the rotary knobs on the controller to get more frequencies ? Just an idea

The Filter sounds surprisingly analog and fat. I tried it with a resonator by La Voix de Luthier - the result was really good. Will compare this Dub Filter with the Moog Murf these days. Happy Eastern!
