About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Unless something burns down. I have the whole series. Bought it from Best Buy ten years ago. And I watch it all the time. I can turn off cable and just watch this, family matters, Gilligans Island, the Jeffersons, and WHats Happening. I was looking for the Land of the lost but I could find thewhole series. I have a vault of old school. I also have Good Times.

The show producers DID NOT want Lawanda Page for lack of experience and appeal. Fred Sanford vouched and insisted on Lawanda because he had worked with her before and they had great rapport. Good call Fred . The most classic roast battles on any show including Martin vs Pam. Even tho I have them at #2 all time lol

Only after you learn the back stories, will you know the kindness of Redd Foxx. From paying the royalties, just to sing a few lines of songs by the Ink Spots, to getting fellow comedians on the show, he was beyond awesome. Although Harlem Nights may not be the best movie ever, I highly recommend young people see it ASAP, and many times, to witness the greatness of the generations of masters there-in.

No coincidence. Sanford and Son was developed by Norman Lear. Norman Lear was the one that gave Michael G. Moye (Married With Children) his start on Good Times. So I can definitely see the influence.

It has to be said That in real life Lawanda Paige and Redd Foxx where childhood friends and grew up together. And at one point the Esther character was going to be off the show. Redd Foxx came to her defense. I can't imagine the show without Fred and Esther going at it..
