PART ONE on Doctor Disney's channel here: • AURORA *NIDAROSDOMEN* ...
Join us for our reaction to Aurora Aksnes’ concert in Nidarosdomen (The Nidaros Cathedral) in Trondheim, Norway with her band Trondheim Solistene, the Oslo Bassoon Choir (Oslo Fagottkor), and musicians Petra Bjørkhaug on the organ and Ruth Potter on the harp. The concert was recorded November 2, 2017 and broadcast by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation on December 28, the next month as a Christmastime concert.
Aurora wishes that the program both inspires the joy of the Christmas season as well as provides solace to those who may feel down at this time of year, acknowledging that “it’s okay to feel the way they feel, too;” and that “[i]t’s important that we tolerate both of these feelings during Christmas.”
We present our reaction at the time of St. Lucy’s Day (December 13), the Scandinavian holiday of light and vision. May we enjoy Aurora’s brightness, musical insights, and stunning vocal talents as the days darken and hope alights till Christmas Day and be inspired throughout the new year.

Forget all your over sexualised mainstream media driven artists that churn out all the same lyrics and cliches that you’ve heard hundreds of times before,Aurora is in a league of her own delivering time after time performances that touch and move emotions inside of you that you never thought you had,to say she’s special would be an understatement. I’ve seen her perform live 3 times in concert and at my age of 67 I’ve seen scores of artists over the years live here in the UK and honestly no one has come close to moving me emotionally like Aurora, with each song she just transports you to the very place that she is seeing, and its completely understandable that she calls her songs her little children for you can visibly see the love she has for them.and just as her mother said you can be a medicine for everyone, what a wise mother for yes I for one am truly blessed to have her words of medicine her little children in my life.❤️❤️

This concert is a national treasure! Some fun facts: The choir is Oslo Fagottkor, it is a choir for gay men only 😃 The Nidarosdomen has 3 organs. The main one is an Steinmeyer pipe organ with almost 10.000 pipes, it's weight is about 40.000 kg, or 88.000 pounds.

There is a pure a cappella performance of "Through The Eyes of a Child" called Vevo UK Lift on her main youtube channel, which is at least as magical as this one imo. This was the first ever performance of "It Happened Quiet", and it was 11 months before the song was actually released on the album.

My interpretation of the line "He didn't mean to do no harm" in murder song: 'He' actually didn't want to harm 'her' and 'he' was very aware of the fact, that 'he' would harm her doing what she wants him to do. In this song, it was 'her' decision, that she wanted to be killed. 'He' was dedicated to fulfill her wishes and the countdown was actually his last try to give 'her' the opportunity to stop him from doing that dead 'he' didn't really want to do.

Since you mentioned yourself the attack in Norway some years ago, you should know that the song "boy in the grass" earlier in the set is actually about that event. The boy lying in the grass lie there because he has been shot. And the children "jumping to the sky" are the victims. Aurora knew someone who died that day, so she sings "when will my healing come". It's a really hard song to listen to when you know the meaning.

Great to see you back with part two already! BTW, love the t-shirts! 👍👕👕🤟 My favorite song from this concert would have to be either "Soft Universe" or "Through the Eyes of a Child," though I think the entire concert is absolutely brilliant. At the end of "Through the Eyes of a Child," she says "please don't leave me here," referring to the childlike innocence she still has in her. She wrote the song when she was going through a period of time where she was only seeing the bad in the world, and this was her way of getting past that. The song "It Happened Quiet" is definitely about domestic violence, and there is no recovery. She performed it on Valentines Day once, and she (cheekily) introduced it by saying it's kind of a love song, even though one of them gets killed. Regarding "Murder Song," you really need to check out the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize version, if you haven't already. It's one of the best performances I've ever seen, and those dynamics you were discussing are even more pronounced.

You two seem very kind . This concert is basically all I know of Aurora so far and it has brought me to tears.. Her music speaks to my humanity. I connected to what the doctor said after 'through the eyes of a child' . After listening to more of her stuff I will come back to watch your reaction to it. 🧡

The concert is edited by NRK. There was, if I remember correctly, two more songs performed. The order of the songs might also be changed.

Yeah, it was "All Is Soft Inside" only the 3rd ever live performance of the song, and "Helt Til Månen Går Til Ro" (Norwegian hymn). The worst thing is they were most likely only cut to fit the show into a 1 hour timeslot, which is so sad and such a waste, since it was aired at 11:15pm anyway , and who cares if it is over 1 hour outside the "primetime" timeslots.

@@Einyen It will probably never happen, but it would be awesome if they ever released a Blu-ray of the entire concert.

@@Tarkus_ Yeah, I actually wrote to NRK in Norwegian ~1 year ago and asked for Blu-ray or DVD release or just payed streaming and assured them there would be many interested. But he wouldn't even confirm there were missing songs, and he said they didn't release DVD or Blu-ray after their webplayer for NRK was released. So I responded that then the missing songs should be on the webplayer, but no response. So the chance it will ever happen is almost non existent. I hope they didn't delete the songs, maybe some NRK employee Warriors will save them and release them in many years when it's ok. A huge sized video of the concert in a professional format was found not so long ago, which is the base for the 4K upscaled video on youtube, but even that did not contain the 2 songs unfortunately, I guess it was the finished source video after the 2 songs were cut.

Nice reaction 🌸🌼 In Norway we didn’t applaud in the churches before the midlife of the 1980s. Nidarosdomen is our national cathedral where the Kings and Queens are crowned, and it’s built on the grave of St. Olav (1030). It’s also still a pilgrim church. Due to the especial history and atmosphere in the Cathedral, most people rather sit down.

As I said many times it is just magical concert. Just perfection and so emotional too. I wish two more song was recorded too (2 missing here). If you are talking about attack including Norway, one of the song here The Little Boy in the Grass was exactly about it. It was about Utoya massacre when she lost someone very close to her. This was great performance of that song, but i also love maybe even more more raw, emotional and acoustic version from Mahogany Session. Just Aurora, boat and Odd Martin with a guitar (I also like symbolism of boat as Utoya is a island). My favorite songs/performances from the concerts are probably Lucky and Though the Eyes of the Child, but love every song from here.

I quite like the dynamic between you two! Dr. Disney is very emotionally intelligent and full of infectious childlike wonder. And Dayle has great insights into the technicalities of things and appreciates/understands Aurora's mastery of music. And I love that you chose to do this specific concert in full. imo, this is THE pinnacle of Aurora's career...so far. Some of my favorite songs she's ever made...came after this. But this concert is just...perfect. Totally transcendent.

Nice reaction, my favorites from this concert are not the majority of her fans choice, my first choice is Soft Universe, followed by Under Stars, Winter Bird and Little Boy in The Grass. I honestly love all the songs, but I rarely listen to the most popular songs because I see them a lot in reactions.

"The Pediatrician in me" Dr. Disney, that is both beautiful and funny to me cos it made me think of a skit from Two and a half men, where the new husband to Alan's ex-wife, who is a Pediatrician, gets asked by Alan's new, sexy but complete dense girlfriend what kind of doctor he is. I'm a Pediatrician. Oh, so your into feet? ... No, children ... Isn't that illegal? It was very funny. Sorry for the digression.

Awwww...it was a long time before I could hear "Through the Eyes of a Child" without tearing up, or choking up if trying to sing along. Same for other songs of hers, as well, but that one is truly special. And you are spot on - she has mentioned in interviews that people should get from the songs what works for them. Sometimes she is surprised by what someone says the song evokes for them, but it's perfect, just the same. Yes, Silja Sol is pursuing her own musical career now. She does have her own KZfaq channel.

Interesting how you noticed on Soft Universe....she had her eyes closed for much of it, unlike the earlier songs. My guess? It was the first song in the set from her not yet released forthcoming sophomore album. No one would have heard it before. I imagine she might have felt slightly less confident, or more inwardly focused, since it was so new and raw. Just a guess. :) The only other song in this concert from that next album was It Happened Quiet. Now I'm curious to see if I notice her eyes closed during that as well....

Very enjoyable reaction, guys! You both have interesting things to say about her songs. One mild negative, you lose marks for skipping through some of the songs, especially “Through The Eyes of a Child”. It’s jarring, and a bit annoying, and many Aurora fans will feel you’re being disrespectful to her songs by skipping portions of them. Other than that, thanks for reacting to Aurora!
