The writer/director wanted to make a parody on early 2000s teen movie that had lesbians as the leads. I loved it because while it showcased nearly everything wrong with how some of those type movies showcased romance, bullying, and sexuality, Bottoms used those elements to comedic effect in a fresh way. What an insanely funny retrospective parody cranked up to 11! That spiral at the beginning really had me in tears laughing in the theater when I saw it last year 😂. “Can you come and visit us on Sunday? Can you please come and visit us on Sunday?” 🤣

Sapphic women's general consensus about this film: we freaking adoooored it and now consider it an iconic lesbian movie I dont think we've had many comedic lesbian movies like that since "But I'm a Cheerlead" and that was in 1999

A group of people at my college hosted an underground midnight screening and invited all the lesbians/queer women they knew, and it was the best movie-viewing experience of my life. We were all crying laughing, surrounded by only queer people, singing along to all of the background music, and yelling at the screen. Easily my favorite movie now

This is such a brilliant film. I loved the absurdity, all the unapologetic gayness, and the over-the-top ending. I don't know how the sword got there, but I'm glad it did. There is something very lovely about seeing badass ladies in fight mode. When I watched this film, I expected a standard highschool comedy, but I was mindblown by the end by how twisted and funny Bottoms is. I feel sapphic films are so serious, so often, but we've been blessed with some great comedies lately. Speaking of which, you should react to Aging out, a queer short film by Breanne Williamson. It's free to watch on her youtube channel.

Listen!! This movie's obviously a sarcastic parody, but there is something about growing up in an over-policed, war profitering empire like the US, that really inspires truly choatic levels of violence within US high schools, both the hilarious, and the really scary and dark and sometimes life-threatening. 😅You can definitely even make an argument that american football itself is alagory for war. The movie is definitely playing off of that aspect of US culture, as well as media. Also maybe an american thing, but in my experience, a lot of people, especially kids, don't really know lesbian slurs. They only know 🚬 so that's what they use. I've been called been a 🚬, though that was as an adult and I was dressed very masc. 🤷 love your reactions by the way!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

Are you a (homophobic slur)?", my friend gave a wide grin and said: "Yeah! I also have AIDS as well as bleeding gums, so keep your distance!". As a bisexual woman, I definitely related to this film XD I also related to PJ with the straight thing. Every single girl I've liked has ended up being straight except for 1. My radar is fantastic except for when it comes to a majority of the people I like apparently. Also, I instantly had a crush on Hazel watching this. Lastly, I rewatched it immediately after my initial viewing of this film. I'm behind when it comes to comedy films. It was the main type of film I wasn't allowed to watch growing up. Because of the inappropriate jokes in a majority of them. But of the ones I have seen now, this is my favorite!

2:53 i dont know if anyone answered this yet but i think some people would use "gay" instead of "lesbian" for themselves either because it's a broader term or maybe they dont feel like they inhabit (is that a word?) the lesbian term 100%. *OR* some people dont like how the term lesbian has been heavily sexualized. (for example me, i use "lesbian" for myself in english but in my language, since i've only ever seen the (translation of the) word in relation to p*rn stuff, or said as an insult, it still feels a bit weird. it feels harsh(?) in a way. so i'd just say "i like girls". but i'm getting used to the term lesbian in my language too!) this is just my interpretation though, there might be other reasons for it:)

It is adorable that neither of the boys recognized the actor playing the teacher advisor. But, love that Josh clocked the violent American approach to assault by fruit cocktail. Y'all got all the way to the second meeting of the club before you realized they started it to pick up girls, when PJ literally says that's why they're starting it in the scene where they talk about starting it? And it took you quite a bit into the movie to realize it was a parody?? And you got confused about it being "pro feminist" but them saying they hate the female teachers, when the point of that scene is they're clearly just trying to get the teacher to agree to sponsor the club and not show up and are just saying things they think will work on him??? IDK if y'all were just not paying enough attention to those parts of if you're as bad at detecting sarcasm as hazel is 😂. Good reaction overall though!

2:58 This has been an argument for a while, I’m surprised you weren’t aware. It’s one of the reasons people have also wanted to reclaim the word queer, as it doesn’t assume that the male word is universal and the female word is specific. Like “man” used to just refer to human or “mankind”, women were either implicitly included or not considered. Similarly, many languages have the “neutral” assumptions for professional roles being male implying the inclusion of women, but not the opposite. Using “gay” as an umbrella term for everyone is a continuation of that linguistic patriarchal legacy. I myself unfortunately have to admit that gay is the term I am most comfortable with, even though I am aware of the socio-linguistic patriarchal implications, and while I don’t have the experience of negative connotations with the word queer, it’s not a term I grew up with the way I did with the term Bi or gay. Interestingly, in my personal situation, only the term lesbian was use in a derogatory way - and I certainly don’t feel comfortable using it myself, while I get really happy that others use it. But I’m glad that this is slowly fizzling out, that there are more options and I guess it shows how being aware of something doesn’t necessarily inform how one feels about it at the core.

I agree on the "us turning against each other bc of external things" but lets not act like this would've never happened if their intentions were to help each other rather than get laid. lol. So to further the discussion we cant always blame others for hurting us when our wrongs give them the lay up (sports reference i know lol) to break us. Thats not to say its right or fair that we have to be perfect so they cant hurt us but two rights can be true. Bad will always help other bad happen. So if they just went with the fact of solidarity rather than getting laid, then their group would be fine but them lying about their past would be the tipping point, not their intentions of making the group that helped everyone come together. But all this comes together anyways at the end of the movie but you get the point!

i think the main reason why the f slur may seem like its more of a slur towards gay men is because its USED more towards them since its usually gross straight men who are using it most of the time and maybe they don't necessarily use it towards lesbian women that often because they're too busy fetishising or because its more of a norm for women to be straight and hold hands, etc then men are so there is more opportunity? I don't actually know that's just my view, I have definitely heard it used towards both genders though

The movie Fight Club was not even about men vs women issues, straights vs gays issues, etc., so basically this can not be something like "Fight Club" honestly. And I think is a little "sad the comparation, as a gay man. In "Fight Club" their conflicts were "internal struggles", where they were both the good guys and the bad guys to themselves. And that women or queers cannot do the work of introspective analysis and self-criticism to create something like this is disappointing. Perhaps they fear being politically incorrect to themselves.

I think vulva has the nickname beaver... Because if you grow your pubic hair out... It's "furry". Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why. The term is actually kind of decreased in use now that removing or trimming pubic hair is significantly more common than it was a couple decades ago.... At least I have zero friends who use the slang so I'm kind of just assuming that it's not really used anymore as my friends NEVER use it... not even ironically.

I'm tired of those teen characters talking like adults, having to say "the right thing all the time" to not being cancelled 🙄, and having all those drama!!! Like, they are out, Isabel is bi?, who cares?, Hazel is dealing with his mom!! This movie is so ahead of it's time, soooo goooood, like, you can see the total lack of sense of humour and drama in Heartsopper, and the flatness and overdue politically correctness by watching and getting the surrealism in this movie!!! This movie slays!!! We need to get back the sense of humour. Enough with the politically correct teenagers!!! God!! Even Handsome Devil had layers!!
