Signed up with aussiebb 2 weeks ago and after getting brand new copper wiring installed from the pit all the way to my wall socket I'm paying for 50/20 and getting 48/19 on an FTTC connection. Extremely happy and aussie kept me in the loop with everything :) Technician tested my line and said for future reference due to it being brand new lines, at current I can get speeds all the way up to 110mbps if I so choose!

You can upgrade your FTTC to FTTP but you need the nbnco to come out to upgrade the connection and the quote is $600. I’ve been doing some research on this. I’m looking at getting a 250/100 plan.

Been with Wideband/Aussie since 2006 when it installed its own DSLAMs in the local exchange. The transfer to the NBN via FTTN (which isn't an acronym, by the way) was seamless. No issues there, either.

So here's what I don't understand: The NBN was supposed to provide Australia with faster internet, but what the Australian internet providers are doing is providing "speed boost" packages, essentially saying that the more you pay, the faster it gets. So essentially, that must mean that the less you pay, the more they *restrict the speed of your connectivity.* How in TF is this legal, especially considering how much tax payer funding was spend building this got damn infrastructure?!
@aussie.broadband
@aussie.broadband 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Toasteh! Not all premises can achieve faster speeds, it really depends on the connectivity and the line as well as the premises itself, so not everyone can get these speeds - we won't suggest a speed plan that you can't achieve at your premises, and if you are receiving slow speeds, we suggest getting in touch with our team on 1300 880 905 :) - Lizzie
@tovsteh
@tovsteh 2 жыл бұрын
@@aussie.broadband I really appreciate your response guys. But my question isnt about a locations ability to provide X speed and what you sell to them, but the fact that if a premise had the ability to achieve max NBN speed, it won't be getting it unless it isn't subscribed to the most expensive service package the internet provider offers. That means this persons speed is intentionally being limited by the provider on the NBN network, which is outrageous given tax payers have funded so much of this project..

@jmaxg
@jmaxg 3 жыл бұрын
Your Aussie BB modem may be in preparation prior to the NBN connection - referred to as "NBN Ready" - which is a crock of shit and just a marketing term. Just to be clear, NBN connection is a requirement WHEN it is available in your area. But that is not your problem. Aussie BB has a requirement under the law to inform you of a change to any existing agreement if and when NBN becomes available in your area. Also note, a broadband modem is NOT the same as NBN - there is different hardware involved (or maybe involved) according to your NBN connection type as defined by the neighborhood you live in. But again, Aussie BB will keep you informed (as they are required to) relative to what changes might occur when NBN arrives where you live. I hope that helps somewhat.

@@Js-tf6qj I just re-read your original question. No. You don't need to buy anything. Equipment may be supplied and a really helpful technician may knock on your door one day, but that's nothing to do with you......unless of course, you don't let him/her in. Then things become problematic as eventually, NBN will be the only way to receive the internet. That is set in law. But that is all set up by your supplier and you will be duly notified, again, as is required by law. All you have to do is be there when there is a knock at your door - AND ask for ID - VERY important. Aussie Broadband are no chumps at this. They know their obligations and are aware that the federal government will KILL them if they stuff up one installation. So, feel relaxed. Enjoy your hard paid for broadband, and watch "How To Train Your Dragon" again on Netflix (like I did last night - what a great film). It is Aussie BB's responsibility to inform you of NBN installation and it's implications. For your info, my NBN connection was FTTC. Yours might be the same or it might be FTTN/FTTB, FTTP, HFC Cable, Fixed Wireless or Satellite. Look up the acronyms on nbnco.com.au . I'll let you find the right page.

FTTC is used in EU up 3 GB/s, and HFC in US up to 1GB/s ... AU pathetic speed limits (at far greater costs) are limited due to NBN's poor third world network building decisions.. I've always maintained Govt and tech dont mix, and when NBN is run by 90% ex Telstra, you can see their over priced DGAF methods carried over, its why in 2020, ISP's are STILL paying for CVC, It's too much of a good thing for NBN to lose money on to wipe it.

@@Dovaclin Whilst the NBN is a joke, it will always be at least better, typically significantly better than your ADSL connection. I don't know how anyone can even live with ADSL2+ in 2021. The reason why they cut off ADSL as it increases speed for FTTN as ADSL 'takes away' some of VDSLs 'bandwidth'. There is a bunch of things they do when ADSL is turned off that allow for increased speeds.
