Demko being injured after a single game is the most Canuck thing that could possibly happen. We’re being forced to wake up in the most painful way lol They can probably still beat the Preds, but losing Demko is an absolute dagger to our chances of winning in the 2nd round.

The Reason the Habs are over the cap is because LTIR space cant be used to cover bonuses. Since Price is 10.5 on LTIR and the habs have so many ELC players who hit bonus markers it gets pushed to next year.

13:00 I don't see how Sammy's to blame. If he cover's the puck, it's the same outcome. He's trying to play it to kill the clock. And the goal itself was Pasta, a player who has over 100 goals the last two seasons. That shot goes in 90% of the time. It's like blaming Ullmark for the Matthews goal. You just can't. The PP goal as well. Yes Sammy was out of position for the actual goal, but's only because 3 Bruins were open for a shot by the net and he was playing the two most likely to get the shot off. He had zero help on that play.
@nbeggs2009
@nbeggs2009 Ай бұрын
Agree, poor effort by the Steve and the guys on this one, trying to put any blame on Sammy for not covering the puck was idiotic. If anything, the fact that Boston scored off the later faceoff proves it was the right decision not to freeze it. Watch it again guys. Also, Edmundson was completely to blame for the whole fiasco on that play when he missed the pass from Liligren (it was not blasted past him either!). Then they try to fault Sami for not making the save? Only thing they got right about their analysis of this goal was questioning the coaching. Why on earth was it Marner, Tavares and Knies on the ice?

This LTIR business all started with the Balckhawks during their dynasty. Kane got hurt, they complained at a GM/board-of-govenors meeting and got other teams on board with the idea. They went out and got Vermette and another piece (maybe Laad?) and won a cup. They were able to regularly pick up multiple good pieces at several different trade deadlines because guys like Kane/Seabrook/Hossa went down long term. Then Tampa and Vegas followed suit. Not sure if PIT or LAK did it too. Col is failing to take advantage of this with Landeskog and Francouz (now retired) on LTIR for 2 years.

I think you are all still missing the point with Mark Stone. It actually doesnt matter at all that he is healthy or unhealthy for playoffs. The problem is that the NHL needs to close this loophole that multiple teams have exploited (which have most certainly assisted these teams unfairly). Vegas is the most recent very blatant example. The problem is not that Stone came back, it is that they obtained players including Hertl using capspace meant for Stone, and are now playing BOTH Hertl and Stone on this same capspace (belonging to Stone) hence double value for same dollars due to this ridiculous loophole. The obvious solution is to amend the rule that makes this possible in the first place. Yes, teams should be able to recoup lost cap from injured players, but moving forward they should not be able to continue to use that recouped capspace if those injured players go on to return to their active roster. Vegas and all other teams should be required to PLAY a roster of players that does not exceed cap, so if they have active players that are going to push the playing roster OVER the cap then they would be required to healthy-scratch their excess active players. The alternative would be refusing to allow LTIR players to play in the playoffs at ALL if they are still on LTIR by the trade deadline, which I doubt the players would ever agree to hence the first option is probably more feasible. Otherwise it is not a fair match up for teams that have actually kept their active players within the cap limit and then have to play against teams that have hulked up on their rosters way over the limit.

With Marner I think you need to consider the possibility that he is playing hurt. It's possible that his injury got to a point where it was clear he wasn't going to make it worse by playing, but still not close to 100%. At that point with 5 games left they may have wanted to get him in the line-up to get some touches (or he may have wanted to get in the line-up) even though he's still working through the injury. Ultimately it's 2 games, in the first there wasn't a single leaf that looked very good so Marner was not alone, in the second we might be talking differently if Bertuzzi's PP goal had counted and Mitch picked up an assist.

Important distinction to make on the Pastrnak goal that wasn't caught: there is NO REASON both of your defensemen should be above the dots while the attacking team has the puck. I don't know who started next to the right-winger on the faceoff, but they should have stayed home and had Geekie covered because where he was on the ice, Pastrnak should have been covered by Tavares. All-around defensive breakdown late in the period which should be inexcusable, and as much as people like to harp on Marner, I don't think he played a significant part in this goal against.

Bruins/Leafs are going 7, it is inevitable, going to be interesting though because the Bruins' defensive structure doesn't look great right now

I'm looking forward to hearing how either Willy or the team messed up 10 games ago by not dealing with the lingering injury at that point rather than waiting until it's too bad for the playoffs. There is something that seems off here.

Mark Stone LTIR fix. For the playoffs, salary cap still matters. The lowest 3 contracts for every team do not count towards the salary cap so that teams can carry extra people in case of injury. Teams already don’t have a limit on how many people they can carry. So that just lets teams bring 3 guys up as extras if need be. Teams now also have access to a playoff LTIR, if someone is injured they can be placed on playoff LTIR and get that cap space back. If placed on playoff LTIR, they must miss 2 playoff games or have already missed 2 games to be put on retroactively. Missing 1 game is too small, and 2 could possibly be 1/2 of all games played in a series. So, Im picking 2 games out for playoff LTIR. Keeps teams from keeping stars out until the playoffs. Still allows for teams to bring people up as needed. Allows for injured stars to find their way back in if hurt leading to or during the playoffs. But, won’t let a team go wild and be like 15+ mill over the cap. Is this perfect, probably not. Is it complicated, sure. Is the cap already complicated and dumb, sure is. If it is going to be dumb and complicated, lets not let it be super exploited too.

The Penguins started their outside viewing parties for the playoffs in 2007, and Adam is talking about the Leafs being the first to do it in 2013? I’m sure the Penguins aren’t the only team to have started that before 2013 either.
