I think the song is about his aspergers, his sexuality, and his race. A lot of things that would make you feel like an outsider. I totally related to this song (for different reasons) and got emotional too, which surprised me. The mask didnt bother me at all, but then I've seen him perform on the Voice many times. As far as staging goes, I liked the lonely feeling it gave and then that moment with the reveal and the celebration that is OK to not be the same. Great production overall.

As someone who works daily with teenagers and young adults on the spectrum, the line that really GOT me with this song was "my father asked if today I smiled. I said yes I did, but that's a lie..." And the bit about trying to "jump in with the other kids, but being pushed away. These are often highly intelligent kids, with impressive analytical skills and amazing recall. Some are very aware that they don't function like others and are often keen to try and gain those skills, but something that comes easily to the rest of us -- laughing, smiling, making casual conversation, social ease, joking -- are all so difficult for them. And these are the social tools we all learn quickly to make friends and fit in with others. If you don't have these skills, and can't learn them, or at least mimic them, you are quickly ostracised, or your comparative seriousness and blank face are misinterpreted or leave others uneasy. You are hard to get to know, and lots of people don't bother. But even though they are "not the same" and never will be, it doesn't mean they don't also value being "accepted" by others. It's wonderful when these often silent young adults somehow "find their voice" as Sheldon has done.

Thanks for a great explanation, I didn't really understand what aspergers is all about.

I don't care about the mask becsuse Sheldons voice, lyrics and emotions connect with me in a way no other song in the competition does. I love it. Good luck Australia!

Ok, don't get me wrong, I love you guys, and I can't wait for yr reactions. However, when you say it's NOT GOING TO WIN, I have to disagree with you. I feel (and what do I know - nothing), the staging is very clever. The staging tells a story about his life! The smoke, blue light, and fan represent blue collar Australia (ie working class), and the mask is representing him hiding behind a glamour mask, giving and showing people what they want to see (beauty). The whole point (for me) is when he takes the mask off and stands there vulnerable for everyone to see. He's not hiding any more, he's free!. Melancholy is such a strong derivative of sorrow, whereas I see it as an awakening and joyful. This young man's vocal prowess is streets above what I've seen this year, and "That moment" in the song where he revels his mask is just heart lifting and beautiful. Sorry about the long waffle! Love from Sweden.

I love how when you really like a song you bring joy in for his reaction, it's like me when every year I'm trying to get my family into some of the entries but that's an uphill struggle haha they enjoy watching it on the night but I'm the only one obsessed with the contest basically all year round 😂

It’s not about his sexual preferences but a boy his Aspergers. The mask is what he uses as a routine . As you know those with Aspergers have difficulty in social situations and the song is about not being able to communicate with the other kids and the kids being uncomfortable with his Aspergers quirks - for want of a better word.

I'm Australian. So I'm bias...and love it... I'm always skepital about who and what we send.. Hate sending these Idol, Voice singers.. rather than singers who did the hard yards to get where they are... But... They always revamp the song and create staging that even wows me... I have to say Sweden's Entry is growing on me ♥️

The staging will change completely for Torino. Of course it wont win but then Australia will never win Eurovision not matter how good we are. But just competing is great fun. PS: don't delete your first reaction vid - it is wonderful.

Maybe you’re right, but it would be great if he wins because that would make his lifelong dream of competing in Eurovision even better. Then again, him winning Australia Decides and representing your country was a dream coming true itself 🙂 Wouldn’t be surprised if he would end up in the top 5.

awwww we Australians love both Italy and Poland. All three entries are amazingly exceptional and will all do extremely well in the competition ❤ Although my 12 pts go to Australia because of the emotional connection, it is a powerful masterpiece, absolute full package and this is just based on the national finals. Australia always steps up and delivers a grade-A top notch performance which, no doubt, will be spectacular. Actually it is funny how you said Boy George's grandson. He was his actual coach on The Voice Australia, although Sheldon had already adopted his own style by that stage.

this song brings us out of our safe, protected western European.. LBGT bubble... in the Eurovision.. we ve so many countries. round 15 .... where "Gays" are still no the same.. even in some Eastern countries of the European Community.... so this song is a great statement... , definetly it will qualify... such an oustanding voice... probably will win the Jury vote.... and will come 2nd after the Ucraine, that wins the Televoting... so sweet 2 c u 3 - lots of love from Vienna

I agree with Joy 100%. It's true that awareness about lgbt issues still needs to be raised, but I also feel that we, in 2022, have to consider lgbt normal, because we, in fact, are all the same, and at the same time we are all different. I hope I got my point across. Love from Italy, I really enjoy your reactions.

I don’t think Italy is better than Australia. I think the main reason why eurovision fans are gravitating towards Italy is just because of mahmood’s presence. What if the song is sung by someone else? Will that give the same impact?
@martynahuber1966
@martynahuber1966 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think its about Mahmood. I didn’t hear about him until I’ve listened to „Brividi”. Its about the song and what it does to you when you listen to it. I cant explain it but its the most beautiful ballad Ive heard in a long time. Besides I personally prefer Blanco in that duet 😉
@fo2531

@@martynahuber1966 that’s a fair justification. I personally like Australia more because that song is very personal to him and the amount of emotion that he had put in the song was just out of this world! Anyway, if you like slow ballads, try listening to les chansons d’armour by marius in French eurovision 2022 or repondez moi from Switzerland 2020
