Australia 'must and will remain' constitutional monarchy under Charles

Sky News host Rowan Dean says even though he is a “staunch constitutional monarchist”, Prince Charles will be a “pretty terrible monarch”.
“He is a signed up member of the climate cult who trumpets his climate activism and alarmism over and above his constitutional responsibilities, that's a recipe for disaster,” he said.
Mr Dean said under a constitutional monarchy, the choices of the monarch themselves don’t matter even, in the case of Prince Charles, they are a “complete dope”.
“Unlike any other system of democratic rule, unlike the American system, unlike the European republics, under our adaptation of the Westminster system of democracy, the constitutional figurehead has no real power but simply serves to deny ultimate power to others,” he said.
“And that is how it must and will remain, despite the personal views of Prince Charles on a range of topics from climate change to immigration.”

Charles might become King of Australia. But he will have no power over policy or lawmaking. The crown of australia has all the power, and that power is exercised by parliament, the crown ministers, and the crown courts. The crown is worn by someone, but it’s not actually the wearer that governs. So yes, australia should continue to be a constitutional monarchy regardless of who wears the crown because it WORKS, and has worked for centuries. And it’s what the fathers of federations wanted, as well as australias settlers and defenders

Not lost on them, it's just they are protected and allowed to pollute the planet. There seems to be a scenario which if all of human kind can't have transportation that things would not be as toxic then the elite could traverse all over the globe with all kind of craft and believe they are not polluting the planet. Hollywood is doing the same thing while telling the people who pay they're salary that to stop using things that are toxic these sandbox players do the opposite...which a shameful and sad thing to do.

I am not a royalist but our Westminster system has served us well to date. As you indicate, Rowan, The British have never been able to interfere with Australian political decisions, not even during the dismissal of the Whitlam Government. When Labor resumes its push for an Australian republic, they will be presenting a model where the president is hand-picked by a bunch of elitist cronies. We must take notice that the politicians who are pushing the Australian Banana republic do not what to entertain the thought of a president elected by the people. The pollies don't like the idea of a Governor General appointed by the Queen's Council, but they are perfectly OK with this process if that privilege falls to one or two of their own kind. This would still not be a democratic republic with a president elected directly by the people. Instead, it would be very much like a Soviet or Chinese Communist style system where the President is selected by the upper echelon of the inner political party. I therefor agree with you, Rowan, that the kind of republic that is constantly being advocated by the Labor movement could do far more damage to this country than the British Monarchy could ever do under our existing constitutional arrangement. I urge people not to fall for Labor's trickery here. They [the ALP] will never allow us to have a true republic with a president elect.

One of the biggest pros of a monarchy is that they provide stability by ensuring that the Head of State of a country is known. That is, in the UK, we know who the next 3 Kings will be: Charles, William and George. The UK KNOWS who will be their Head of State for the next 50-100 years which is extremely beneficial as it provides political stability. In Australia, the GG is the Head of State who is the representative of the Monarch in the UK in Aus, who in all practicalities, serves at the pleasure of the current PM of the day. This means that one of the biggest pros of a monarchy here in Aus does not apply because we dont know who our Head of State will be in the next 50 years; we've had 3 GGs over the past 20 years which is akin to the 3 different US presidents over the same time period. Realistically, as sentiment towards the monarch in the UK dies in Australia - as it inevitably will - then it makes natural sense for the people to remove the figure they have no affiliation to and replace them with someone who does. This has been shown to occur throughout history in all continents. I just pray that it be done peacefully via referendum rather than via the violent methods we've seen throughout history.

Im not a fan of charlie boy either, but I am a strong advocate of constitutional monarchy because it is a rational system that combines both the ritual rights of a monarch with that of the political rights of parliament. But there is a check & balance system in place so that neither party cross each other...this has been demonstrated to work. The democracy index have shown that 7 out of the top 10 democracies are constitutional monarchies and Australia is ranked 7th or 6th. So we're in the top 10.

Firstly, it was also in northern NSW. Secondly it wasn't slavery - not a single person was bought, sold or traded. It was indentured labour, & was practised throughout the Empire, overwhelmingly using Indians (waaaay more than kanakas), & even some white people too (mostly Scots-Irish, so if you think Kanakas were slaves, then so were those whit people). The vast majority of indentured labourers from Pacific islands used in the sugar industry came on limited term contracts, usually negotiated with, & agreed to by, their village or chief. At the end of that contract they were given the option of extending for a further term, or returning home (paid for by the employer). "Blackbirding" (ie. the illegal kidnapping of islanders without permission or an agreed contract) accounted for less than 3% of all indentured labour (& even they were paid wages while in Australia). Was it pleasant? Of course not - conditions on the ships were pretty crowded & unhygienic, they were paid a pittance compared to white workers, they often received inadequate amounts of food, were rarely given proper medical attention (even though they had little immunity to Western diseases), & their accommodation was frequently dilapidated hovels. But again, you can't generalise - many employers were like this, but there were notable exceptions, as evidenced by some villages in Vanuatu agreeing "exclusivity" clauses with particular plantations where their men had been well treated (by the standards of the time). And finally, nobody OWNED them - they were not PROPERTY (of the plantation owner or anyone else). They were employees (often exploited, but that doesn't make them slaves in a legal or any other sense). So sorry, but no, it wasn't slavery - doesn't even come close to meeting the definition. The meaning of a word still matters, even in times as confused as these.
