This sound is an ideal sound for sleeping tonight, :) .
@brettschmidt59292 жыл бұрын
Sound travels through air at a speed of about 330 metres per second, or about 1 kilometre every 3 seconds. Light travels through air at close to 300,000 kilometres per second, or approximately 900,000 times as fast as sound. So the light from a lightning strike reaches our eyes in a fraction of a millisecond, while the sound (thunder) takes 3 seconds multiplied by the distance in kilometres between us and the lightning stroke. Because the time it takes the light to reach us is so small in comparison to the time it takes the sound to reach us, the interval of time between the moment we see the lightning and the moment we hear the thunder is for all intents and purposes essentially equal to the time it takes the sound to travel from the lightning stroke to us. Therefore by dividing (the time in seconds between the moment we see the lightning and the moment we hear the thunder) by 3, we can obtain the approximate distance in kilometres between the closest part of the lightning stroke and us. For example, if we hear the thunder 15 seconds after we see the lightning, then the distance to the closest part of the lightning stroke is approximately 5 seconds.
