I became obsessed about three years ago with Fitz. Nobody reads them, so I unload my fangirling on my friend who listens and says "Wow" and "No?" during the right moments. I'm currently halfway thru Fool's Quest! The emotions. I feel like Fitz is part my family.

I got here because I was looking for a video where someone could tell me in what order to read these books (which turns out to be a lot simpler than it often sounds haha) and I'm so happy that I found your channel! I love how you talk, it's very clear and well-structured, and overall really interesting! I now desperately want to start reading Hobb's books, they sound fantastic. I might first have to finish reading the Mistborn trilogy and ASOIAF though, otherwise it becomes a bit overwhelming with all the series haha!

Hi! Thanks, I really enjoyed your video. I am portuguese, I just started the farseer trilogy, in here the editions are a little bit different so we have 5 books instead of 3, I think I am now going to assassin's quest. I was really confused about the chronological order of Robin Hobb's books and you just helped me. This way I can enjoy them without spoilers. The Assassains Apprentice finally came in today! I will have to add it to my October books haul because it was too late for my September book haul. I'm excited either way. I honestly thought it would be a larger book but it seems quite small for an epic fantasy book. Awesome video, Sam!

I'm so glad I stumbled on this video. I gave up on Robin Hobb awhile back. I stopped on Assassin's Quest as it was too slow moving. I decided to go back to Stephen King, then went onto The First Law Trilogy, Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, and Scott Lynch. After Oathbringer I believe you have convinced me to jump back into the world of Fitz and the Fool. Thank you! I am now subscribed.

I'm about halfway through The Mad Ship now and I can't wait to see where the story ends up. "Only" about 1400 pages left until I can start The Tawny Man trilogy ;) Robin Hobb writes "evil characters" so well that you really hate them. I thought I didn't like Regal, but then I read about Kyle... Wow! You do get attached to the "good characters" too. And the emotional rollercoasters. Good thing I only read at home :p

Thanks so much for this video! I'm very intrigued to read Robin Hobb, I think I'll really love her books, but I was so confused on where to start. I purchased The first book of the Soldier Son trilogy, but honestly it was very confusing and slow that I think I'll pick it up again after I read her other books. (But I LOVED her writing at least) I love your videos, fantasy is the best :)

I've been wanting to dive into these books for a while but I didn't have a clue where to start and was feeling very intimidated by the fact that they are almost all massive books. I have the first 3 books on my Kindle, so it looks like I've accidentally purchased in the correct order anyway. Now I just need to find the courage and more importantly the time, so I can become fully immersed in the world. You did a great job with this video :) thanks!

Maybe I will love her novels, I love stories with interesting and peculiar characters, that's one thing that attracts me the most about a certain story. This is why I don't think I can find one type of genre I will definitely love, I just like hearing about characters and different personalities, and how they overcome whatever it is they need to overcome in a book or series, and how this character became a villain or whatever. Anyways, thank you for this video, it really helped win me over, now I am sure I have to check out Robin Hobb next. If I ever had any doubt about whether or not I should start a lengthy Robin Hobb book, all of it is gone now. I'm really excited! I hope I love her writing as much as you do! I really do! :) Thank you so much again! Your video helped me peaked my interest in reading again. I was stressed recently and getting distracted, my mind couldn't focus on reading much.

Robin Hobb is one of my 2 favs authors ever. I'm afraid to start the fitz and fool trilogy because book 3 isn't out yet and I haaaate to have to wait to know what's going to happen especially for her books and for Fitz. I'm taking a small break from Hobb because her books are so large and it takes me forever to get through them during the school year (I'm a teacher). But I find myself thinking about Nighteyes and Fitz all the time. "We are pack" echoes constantly in my head. On our next break (Thanksgiving or Christmas) I plan to get into the Liveship Traders trilogy and I can't wait :)

this is a late comment for this video but today the used bookstore in my library was having a great sci-fi/fantasy sale and I picked up the 4 Robin Hobb books that they had so I got Shaman's Crossing, Fool's Errand, Ship of Destiny and Blood of Dragons! It was great too because my library doesn't carry physical copies of Ship of Destiny or Blood of Dragons 😃

Robin Hobb...in less than a week I've started and finished The Assassin's Apprentice, started The Royal Assassin, ordered The Liveship Traders trilogy and plan to get everything else. She comes second to Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow And Thorn for me. I highly recommend that series by the way. Especially as he completed it over twenty years ago and is about to revisit his world again next year with THREE new books!

Sam's Nonsense thanks! And yeah I'm back at work now and having to enjoy these books at a slower pace. Which I like! I'm sort of doing it on purpose now because every chapter is an event. I find some of the characters really annoying. Fitz and Molly drive me crazy! But I find myself thinking "but they annoy me as real people annoy me" and I am willing the best to happen and their frustrations to be answered. I rarely feel this way annoying am bout characters. So many authors write great stories with little character. Hobb writes both! I just love all these characters and I love the pacing and the details and the animals are beautifully written. I haven't enjoyed reading about a character growing up this much since Memory, Sorrow and Thorn (which is perhaps more detailed and drawn out than this series) or Harry Potter. This series is just...I can't...explain...it... My next author to start is Brandon Sanderson. My dad has read the Mistborn series plus Elantris and was obsessed. But these first...

Great video Samantha! Robin Hobb is my fav author, it's so easy to get lost in her world and I agree that the relationship between Fitz and The Fool is just amazing. (Fitz and Nighteyes is great too don't you think?) Now you have me wanting to read them all again!

I always thought Robin Hobb was a man - so that's super interesting to know the author is female :) I am going to go to my secondhand bookstore this afternoon in my lunchbreak and see if Assassins Apprentice is available. Hey, if you loved Robin Hobb, you should check out some French authors, but I don't know how are the translations. Phillip Jaworsky writes fantasy, "win the war" is one of his books and his way of describing people, political events or just the city is amazing. His story is not as immersive as Robin Hobb's, but damn that man can write. And Pierre Pevel, his book "les lames du cardinal" (litteral home made translation : "the cardinal"s blades", look it up) is amazing. Its also a role playing game if you like them. This is litteraly France at the age of the musqueteers, but with human-looking dragons that have infiltrated the world's politics... It is very well written and as good as it sounds.

I watched a video on someone else's channel in which she hauled the first in the rainwilds (?) chronicles but hadn't read any of the other books in the series and I wanted to yell "NO NO NO NO!! DON'T DO IT!" But I didn't say anything...because I haven't read ANY of her books myself. But as I've said before to you, you desperately make me want to pick these books up. I have the farseer trilogy all sitting in a checkout basket on book depository (because I have to have the British editions) but it just hasn't been in my budget for the last month...*sigh*. I almost bought the first two books, but I did send a link to the books on Amazon to my mom, so I wasn't sure if should wait and let my mom buy it for me. I mean my Birthday is in May, but I'm going to stay with my grandmother in March and will get to go to Barnes and Noble.

I'm usually a bit scared of "epic" or "high" fantasy, because they can be very political, some have a million characters (a giant family tree in the back is usually a turn of for me) and really difficult worlds and magic-systems. Then to top it off the series are usually huge, so it's a big commitment. However this video did convince me to try the Farseer trilogy! especially since you say it's okay for people getting into the genre. Also when you said the characters have the same depth as the ones in lord of the rings and most importantly for me the Harry Potter series! How can I not try it after hearing that. It also helps that the first book isn't a giant brick :p

I skipped over the Rainwild Chronicles if for no other reason then I wanted to jump right back into Fitz's point of view. I know in Fool's Quest however there are references so time to jump back and read the ones I skipped.

Oh shoot. I just picked out fools Assassin to start my first robin Hobb read. I didn't have many options at my library. I'm 75 pages in. You think I'm really ruining a lot of stories if I finish the book? I can't help but continue to read it. It's so good!!

I started with picking up The Dragon Keeper. I had a feeling that there was more story - backstory and I'm okay with that. I also have the Assasains apprentice from my partners bookshelf. I am loving The Dragon Keeper, although I am finding like you mentioned things can be repeative. I agree the animals and dragons are so distinct and connected. Only about 150 pages in and am loving this world. Have you read TRACI HARDING?

I read Liveship Traders first and I loved it. I couldn't believe that the characters weren't real people! I'm gonna start reading the Farseer trilogy in a few months. Sam, is the Amber-Fool theory a real thing? Also, I gotta say, you are a very beautiful woman!

But she doesn't confirm it till the last couple of pages when Amber says and does some very revelaing things (if you had read the Farseer books) and then it comes into play more in the later books :) Aw thank you so much!!

i picked up Assassin's Apprentice randomly and haven't put the series down since, i've nearly finished Fool's Errand (the first book in the third trilogy), i think i might of preferred Liveship Trader's to Farseer Trilogy slightly. i'm still confused with the whole Amber and the Fool thing at the the moment.

i guessed that, but don't understand how he posed so well and why, how could none of the other charecters see? when he/she got injured it seemed like the Fool must of done some magic transformation on himself somehow then.

When you describe the world it sounds a bit like game of thrones, I haven't read those books but just based on watching the tv show. Have you read Song of Ice and Fire ?

+micronoid I have and actually gave up on book 4. For me it was too drawn out and was following everyone I hated. Hobbs books are actually quite different. with the exception of the Liveships and Rainwilds books, all of her books are told from Fitz's perspective. and Her dragons are some of the best I've ever read!

Hmmm Fools Assasin was a bad place to start for me! Too bad in 312 pages in or i would stop and start at the very beginning. The K-mart i was at only had Fools Assassin though so i thought id grab it, looked like a good fantasy read and boy was i right!

+LectoraEstherica No They're not! She actually tackles a lot of social issues, inlacing slavery in her books. A lot of the cultures are very diverse and she deals with how the various cultures interact, and there are many races in this world. Particularly when you get to the Liveship books & the Rain Wilds books. The most prominent LGBT characters are in the Rain Wilds books, there's actually a very big story line that deals with that. And even in the other books, the Fool, who is one of the most prominent characters she never says if he is Male or Female, which is a bigger plot point later on.
