Uncle John visited regularly. The week before, long term rows over Andrew gifting a home & money to Abby's half sister resurfaced & Emma & Lizzie moved out for 3 days. On their return Lizzie told friends they were not taking meals with the parents & were staying in their rooms all day. So it was v much still simmering. Uncle John's alibi of visiting other family in town was rock solid. Emma was in Fairhaven. The front & back door were locked. The maid was seen washing the rear outside windows & chatting to next doors maid when Abby died at approx 9.30am & was unwell in her attic bedroom when Andrew died at 11am. At the inquest Lizzie could not say where in the house she was when Abby died, & was "looking for sinkers, eating pears & looking out the barn window" when Andrew died. No-one else had motive or opportunity. She wore the overcoat found folded under Andrew's mangled head. Hhe was a frugal fastidious man, he wouldnt use an overcoat for a pillow when crime scene pics show there are sofa cushions. Or, she could've worn one of the hooded, rubberised, full length raincoats they owned. They were called rain gossamers back then. She could've used the flat iron she was ironing hankies with when Andrew returned home at 10.40am, as the only hatchet found had no handle & only cows blood on it. The bloody rags in the cellar bucket may not have been menstrual as she claimed, but clean up rags. She also tried to buy prussic acid ( cyanide) the day before the murder but that evidence was withheld at trial. Her inquest testimony was also witheld because she was sedated with Morphine at the time.

They won't say. There's just a passing mention of a man in the background of a pic that no one knew who he was, but she did. There was no significance to that indicated in this story.

I've never rad that the front door was always open . I've always read that it was usually locked, especially since Abby's jewellery went missing the year before, whereupon Andrew installed locks on the internal doors, as Lizzie was the only suspect.

How did she kill Andrew the way he was killed, make the murder weapon disappear, clean all that blood off herself without modern plumbing for 1893 standards, dry off, redo her hair in at absolutely most 12 minutes if you listen to Bridget's testimony. No way she did all those things that quickly. Ever try to clean blood out of your hair, it's not easy with a modern shower never mind trying to clean brain matter out of your hair.

@@davecm1605 How she (if she did it) cleaned herself up is one of many mysteries. If she did it she would have had enough time to clean up after Abby's death. She possibly wore Andrew's coat to kill him (from behind in the open doorway to the dining room) and simply rolled it up and put it under Andrew's head where it was found by police. It just doesn't seem possible that someone (unless Lizzie was in on it) would get in the house, murder Abby and then hide for over an hour until Andrew came home. What a puzzler.

@@davecm1605 that's what i always thought too. How could she have done 2 murders and cleaned herself so fast. They would've mentioned how fresh and so clean Liz would've smelt. That should've been noticeable the distinctive smell atleast i think. Unless the murderer was hiding in the huge house 🤷‍♀️

But the court of public opinion decided otherwise starting with her former friends at the church she and her sister had attended for years...her first free sunday she went to church as expected or so she thought ....she goes to sit in the family owned pew only to find the closer pews in front and back of the borden pew vacated ...sending a clear message...get lost....no longer welcome...lizzie got the message left the building forever and never went back...but she lived in fall river til she died...she got the last laugh...the church people that turned against her...no one remembers their names but BOTH former homes are world famous as is fall river...have been there several times...fun place...nice

@@sarahholland2600 I don't think Lizzie did the actual killing, but she was definitely part of it. I think her and Emma conspired to kill Andrew & Abby. They all had a falling out and its funny how the girls sold the rental house back to Andrew, (the very one he sold to them for a $1 maybe a year before), and just a couple weeks before the killings for five thousand dollars!! A very good payment for an assassin? Emma would have been the soul inheritor to get any money from the estate, so she had to be completely out of the picture, hence she was at relatives hours away. How convenient for someone who was known to rarely go anywhere. The doors were always locked on the house since the 'supposed break in and theft' So someone would have to have let the killer in, but that is no problem if it was planned. The murder weapon was never found because the murderer took it with them and obviously Lizzy would not have to worry about covering up any blood.. This is only a theory ofcourse, the only thing that is an obstacle is timing. No one knew when Mr. Borden would arrive back home exactly, or that he would return early. So was the killer to stay hiding for hours? Possible, but there was always the chance they would be found.

Explain how did a flat iron gashed a 4 inch deep cut into Abby?....sorry, but it was a hatchet.

​@@fluffedsquirreloh the man that was seen...this was explored in a previous book. It was allegedly her half brother. Most important was making the claim that Abby died first. Otherwise Abby's family would receive all of Andrew's money and property. The whole town needed Abby to be dead first or all that Borden money would be lost to a different family in a different town. Hence, Lizzie's dream team of lawyers and no questioning anyone in the trial who brought up the man seen that morning by the Borden home. Check the trial transcript to verify.
