Thanks to a generous friend, we were able to see Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland. How did 3 boys on the autism spectrum handle all the Star Wars, blaster sounds, light saber clashes, and X-wing fire? Click to find out and may the force be with you!

I hope you and the boys are having a great time in Star Wars Land. I know Connor will enjoy being there the most. Love the smile on Alister’s face while seeing baby Yoda in the bag of one of the characters, he was smiling. Your boys will have memories of this place, I know Connor will the most. I hope you get pictures with the Star Wars characters. I wish the 7 Ahead Family could have joined you there, and your family could have gone to Universal Studios with your friends and their children. All the boys like the Spaceship ride, I know Alister enjoyed it the most.😊😊😊

I went there when it first open, and let me tell you. My younger brother was SOLD that we were in space. It’s actually incredible because you don’t realize what’s going on behind the scenes, and all of the effort they put it.

I'm autistic and I think I'll have to check out your channel more- I saw a lot of autism-based family channels use their kids autism as almost a prop, but it's nice and refreshing to see your boys entertainment and needs put first :) I was stimming my way through this

What a wonderful gift. You guys will never forget these amazing memories. I’d love to take my son on a big adventure somewhere but I worry about trying to get him onto a plane for the first time and don’t really know where I’d take him because he would hate everything about a theme park. Maybe we will try going to the beach or something some day. For now, we stick to camping and close to home.

I will try to keep this as positive as possible. First, to get the most sensitive part out of the way, I totally detest how Woke and political Disney has become. I used to hold a Premium Pass membership for 22 years and go to Disneyland (I live in San Diego) at least 3-4 times a month. With their stepping into the political area and their constant sky rocketing prices, I may never set foot on a Disney property again. However, it would be very unfair and self-serving to not give a big nod to Disneyland in general and the Cast members specifically on how people with Special Needs are handled. I am an Autistic Adult with comorbid Sensory Processing Disorder. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to sound and do not like chaotic crowds or being touched. So, it would a fair question as to who or why such a person would frequent Disneyland? Yes, I do use the Disability Assistance Pass Program. I know Disneyland in extreme detail and know areas most do not know, where I can escape crowds and noise (usually). Although I am quite articulate, when I become highly elevated and close to meltdown, my ability to communicate quickly collapses. So much so, I carry a notepad at Disneyland that is programmed with several APPS that allow me to use it as an AAC device. I also know (and am still learning) ASL: "American Sign Language." In very noisy areas, I will use wither my notepad or whatever Sign Language I can muster. (I have degenerative hand issues that limit my ASL skills) My compliment to Disneyland/Cast Members is best told by one of the experiences I had more recently. I was with another person on this day. I generally have someone with me who knows my Autistic challenges and monitors me. On this day, Disneyland had its average large crowd. Most of the day went well and my escort pulled me aside several times to destress. I constantly wear sound canceling headphones at Disneyland and supplement them with earplugs when needed. My escort tried to give me buffer area away from people and I also had a tag on my backpack that said "AUTISTIC: PLEASE DO NOT STAND TOO CLOSE!" But Disneyland is Disneyland, and midafternoon I was becoming so sensory overloaded I was rapidly headed toward a meltdown. (YES, us Senior Autistic Adults can still have meltdowns!) Nothing my escort could do could reverse what was progressing rapidly. I fought my way to two Cast Members talking with people. I held up my notepad. Under one program, I have several preset texts I can call up quickly asking for help. This text said, "I am Autistic, I need immediate isolation to a quiet area to avoid meltdown!" Both Cast Members immediately excused themselves from the other conversation. Without question, we were very quickly escorted to a secluded quiet area. I was asked if I needed anything, do I need other assistance, and informed if I needed more, immediate flag a Cast Member. It took me around 2 hours to get to a level where I could leave the quiet area. I was very moved by the sensitive and rapid response of the Cast Members and their honest concern for my safety and comfort. Throughout the day, I let my escort do most of the talking but sometimes called up text on my Notepad/AAC. Every Cast Member was always very polite and patient. Seeing my challenges, they always let us know the most isolated areas to rest while awaiting our next ride. Whenever I went to Disneyland, I wore a shirt that identified my Autism (sometimes in a lighthearted way!) I wear a Medic-Alert bracelet that identifies my Autism challenges and contact information. On the back of the band are instructions how to help me if I am distressed. As mentioned, I am constantly wearing my sound canceling headphones. I found having a label on the back of my backpack, everyone gave me plenty of room and avoided touching me. I also had a small flashing red light on my backpack at night so my escort could easily follow me. To some, this may seem a bit over dramatic for a person that is a senior adult and generally on the "Aspergers" level of Autism. However, my sensitivity to sound and chaotic surroundings is so high, I am quickly elevated to being incapacitated. Any time I am at any other amusement park or vacation location, I cite Disney as the best example of supporting the Autistic Community. I have never seen another place match the level of training, care, and professionalism all the Disneyland Cast Members show to all persons with special needs or disabilities.

Disneyland’s cast members do seem to care a lot about helping autistic folks from videos I’ve seen. They were also helpful this time around with our access pass. I did like our experience a little more with Universal, but both companies were helpful IMO. As per the political stuff all I will say is this: If a company wants to get involved in political situations they are free to do so, but it’s also up to the customer(s) to choose how to respond. If I were CEO of Disney I’d simply say “our doors are open to all people who want to make Disneyland a happy place,” rather than choosing to focus on this or that group. It seems any time a company goes out of its way to focus on an issue or certain group of people, they make other people feel unheard and unseen. It really ends up hurting the business and we can see that happening with Disney stocks dropping and employees being let go in droves. That’s why I think the best business move would be to just say all are loved and as long as customers are civil, they are welcome one and all. 😉
