I personally like the look of the factory trans temp gauge on the silverado but this helped me decide on a location for my duramax
@ZacVaper
@ZacVaper 4 жыл бұрын
I think the best place to read the fluid temp is in-line close to exiting the transmission. At that point, if its reading 175-180, your in good shape.

You can also get a used factory gauge cluster that has the transmission temperature gauge already, it’s a direct swap and the truck is prewired for the transmission temperature gauge so it will work without running any extra wires or sensors. If you can’t find a used cluster that has mileage close to your current odometer, you can have the replacement cluster programmed with the correct mileage. Less than an hour and you are done.

The autoMeter gauge will read faster and be more accurate than factory anyway. well done.

If you are using brass parts I personally wouldn’t use any tape. Brass has a really good sealing factor and tape can degrade over time and or possibly clog tubing/lines.

The cooler is a must during high summer temps. The factory cooler is ok for some but if you're towing it's not enough. I bought the biggest trucool I could find.

Doing this to mine now, but I am just adding the GM trans temp gauge to my cluster in my 2003 Yukon. Cluster looks like the HD cluster when done. You just add the new gauge overlay and the stepper motor. The truck is wired for the trans temp already, once the cluster is set up, it is plug and play. I like your setup as well. Nice work!

Yeah you need to program the ipc to acknowledge there is a trans temp. Your easiest way would be to swap the cluster from a heavy duty truck. Its plug and play. No problems. Up to you if you want to transfer the mileage.

I don't getting adding a transmission temp gauge pod it's very easy to add to the stock cluster if you didn't have it from the factory. If you aren't comfortable Soldering just buy a factory cluster with the gauge already on it and either program it yourself if you have the tools or pay someone to program the odometer to your milage. no wires being cut it added. All the trucks had the sensor from the factory.

Every time I am doing some kind of install, I grow to further despise the thinking that put fuses on the drivers side under the dash. What is wrong with these engineers? First, the pretzel aspect: it is THE most awkward place in the vehicle to do any kind of work on account of the steering wheel. Second, and more importantly, is general safety. What if your car dies while driving? You pull over, and maybe might like to check fuses, right? But that leaves both a door and your butt sticking out into traffic. Good luck, dude. Wake up, SAE: put fuse boxes on the passenger side if they are to be located in the cab.

Does that pressure bolt come in contact with the fluid? Or are you just reading the ambient temperature of that area of the transmission?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 4 жыл бұрын
Its in contact with fluid. In fact its right in line with the pump. So its the temp as its entering and exiting the pump. If you ask me that's a good place to check the temp

WOW just send out your factory gauge cluster to have the transmission temp module installed and EEPROM programmed OR why not get the whole thing rebuilt with new lights and X27 stepper motors for like $165… these GMT800 trucks are already pre-wired for transmission temp /facepalm

@weloveups831
@weloveups831 Жыл бұрын
@@blue4184 I bought the Autometer he mentioned in video. If I where to do this again. I would purchase a glowshift and buy their sensor specifically for the 4L60E. Gs-ts-11. The reason, worry of depth in passage of trans. My measurements indicate the auto meter fully blocks it. I still used it but added a fitting to pull away from passage. Muddy beards has had no issues but I haven't had the time to research the port. I have a scanner that tell me trans temp as reported to ecm and at times there is a discrepancy. My setup runs colder then what is reported to ecm I believe because I moved the sensor out. Changing cluster to me is not an option because the odometer will need reflashed.
