The oil filter holds some oil and it may be better to take the oil filter out first before you drain the oil. Oil will flow back to the bottom when you remove the oil filter.

I just did a oil change on mine. I used Castrol synthetic 5w-30 because it was what was recommended by bmw at the time. I knew Mobil 1 was recommended for the newer bmws but figured the castrol wouldn’t hurt it and was less than half the price

5w-30 is the correct oil as per manual. So you're in the clear.

If you release the oil filter seal but not remove the filter cap, the oil will drain out of the oil filter.

Always loosen the filter cap before draining let it set for a while maybe 1/2 hour

Very important to put the rubber ring on housing in the right spot. Otherwise it will leak from the back of housing causing a huge mess. you will think its the oil pan.

18 lbs. torque for the oil plug, 18.5 for the oil cap
