Hey all, the MQTT testing section where you can publish and listen has moved. It is no longer in the developer tools section - you have to go to configuration --> integrations --> configure Mosquitto broker, and you'll see these functions.

Hi there, Just wanted to comment to say that SMB 1.0 is really unsecure and that's the reason it's disabled from Windows. I bet you could SSH to your Pi and create a share yourself without needing SMB 1.0 Just saying. Security is important. IT Security Specialist here. For last, congrats for the good videos, keep good work ;) Best regards

I really like how home assistant lets you get under the hood so to speak with your own code and lends itself to the arduino environment

This is really great and would love to see Influx and Grafana setup as part of this. I have it installed on my Pi without Home Assistant now and it is great, but no control. This is going to certainly change things so thanks for all the great work!

You da real MVP! Got mine up and running, and now I don't have a requirement for all these independant apps monitoring my devices from different manufacturers. The automation is awesome!!! Been able to save a fair bit of money from electricity costs running stand alone sensors, instead of relying on built in sensors for temp, humidity, etc from fans, and so on. Running it on my Synology! Is your background in software/computer engineering? Pretty awesome to see a passion in growing plants combined with your smarts of software/hardware integration to build something quite special.

@@LEDGardener I think we've hit just the right combination of distaste for cloud services, this open source platform, combined with inexpensive yet powerful hardware, that creating a "DIY personal cloud at home" is a reality for more people than ever. Home Assistant was the software side solution I didn't even know was possible, nor would I have found if not for running into your videos, and your videos are directly responsible for me picking up an RPi 4, some ESP8266s, and actually implementing some of the ideas that I've had kicking around for a while (grow monitor, garage door monitor, low-voltage lighting control, etc). Keep it up man!

Following along, thank you 🙂 Im now at the end of the video stage on my pi, for a simple system, I assume I could possibly just use node-red to directly use the pi's i.o. ? I went down a rabbit hole of trying to use node-red for making timers and switches etc a couple of years ago. Ended up giving up at the point of realising port forwarding in a regulation supplier provided router can be next to impossible in some cases. Hopefully now there are better mqtt/something brokers out there for free use for remote access

I was going to ask if this would work on the Atomic Pi instead, but I've got one ordered, so I guess there's one way to find out.

just a note here on something that just got me stuck: i wasnt sure what user name and password to use when prompted after searching for my pi in the windows explorer. Use the username and password in the samba share configuration! Just in case someone else gets stumped here like me..

Probably should not use input boolean as an example for editing the config file as that should now be added through Helpers in the UI.

awesome work on this whole series! Any thought of a VPD controller? all you'd need is an infrared thermometer like the mlx90614. That's what i use.
@LEDGardener
@LEDGardener 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually been thinking about this for a little while and that’s precisely the part I planned to use. The hardest part I think will be figuring out how the humidifier and fan react to the measurements in order to get them back into range... like if you turn on the fan to lower humidity, it’ll make the tent colder too which will raise relative humidity. May be a tough balance to strike.
@stephengillan8601
@stephengillan8601 4 жыл бұрын
@@LEDGardener maybe just do a test script to find out how the environment reacts. I used a smoothing algorithm to make my VPD readings a bit more stable, so the fans didn't kick on so often. I think you'll find that the environment reacts fairly consistently, even if it's not at the readings you'd like to see. Then you can adjust your humidifier settings from there. Whatever way you go, it's helpful info to add to the arsenal.
