I think Korra's chi being stronger than most explains why she could overpower vaatu. Because her chi could be almost on per with the avatar state. Which would be why she could resist the posion in her blood for so long, because Zaheer was suprised

This one-shot is like both Zuko Alone and the Crossroads of Destiny. Azula in the Spirit Temple is the best one-shot we’ve gotten, but that is not saying much, considering the other one-shots, especially Katara and the Pirate’s Silver. When we left last time, Azula and the Fire Warriors were made to be this big new threat that Zuko would have to face while figuring out what Fire Lord he was going to be. Yet all that buildup just went out the window because her new group understandably abandoned her. It happened a lot sooner than Mai and Ty Lee. Now she is back to square one. Now, she wants to have new followers and rule somewhere, but where would that be? I can’t really bring myself to acknowledge any of Azula's growth until I see where it’s headed. It needs to have a follow up. Just one-shot is not enough. What’s the plan? Where are we going with this? I do like the fact that Azula lets the Fire Warriors in peace, even though she kept repeating *I’ll make them pay*, even though she tried to justify it. I’m glad that she wasn’t fully redeemed at the end because seventy-something pages is not enough. The redemption would have been rushed. She’s going to find new followers and they're probably going to betray or abandon her, when she gives them a reason to. For Mai and Ty Lee, it was saving Zuko, and saving Mai, respectively. For the Fire Warriors, it was Azula not going back to get Chiyou. Something needs to change for Azula, or it’s going to happen again like a cycle with new followers understandably betraying and abandoning her. Azula is going to keep losing people until she changes. She has to confront her past and her behavior and gives her a chance for some serious retrospection. She ran away at the end of the Search. She does not believe she needs redemption. She doesn’t seek or want it. It doesn’t say that she's beyond redemption, but rather that she actively rejects it. Her view on strength is the same as Ozai and now he’s in prison without his bending. Like in the Beach (*my own mother thought I was a monster*), she’s an unreliable narrator for herself and she’s read to filth. I was a little confused on why Ruon-Jian was there, and not Chan, but Azula is interested in having a boyfriend, like she did with the Beach episode. Chan understandably ran away when Azula showed her true colors to him after they kissed. I enjoy the real Ty Lee. I don’t want Mai and Ty Lee to be friends again with Azula. Too many bad things happened between them. Azula was going to kill Mai if Ty Lee hadn’t stepped in. That’s not a friend, that’s an abuser. Sure, Azula was betrayed, but no excuse is good enough for a “friend” to kill one of their friends. Ty Lee has definitely grown and evolved from her first appearance versus Azula who keeps taking Ls now. Ty Lee is right that Azula is a terrible friend. Mai is half-right that Azula is a victim. She was a victim of her environment, but she’s also an abuser. It’s not an excuse. People are entitled not to forgive people that have wronged them: Katara not forgiving Yon Rha, Zuko getting rejected from the village, because of his family, etc. Ozai would never apologize to Azula. Ursa and maybe Iroh would. But Azula needs to apologize to the people she hurt and make amends and try to repay them. Everyone should not forgive Azula just because she is a victim. The institution needs to be better. Other than Azula wearing a straitjacket at the end of the Promise, they allow people that are rebellious teens that didn’t want to be pushed into the roles their conservative parents had planned for them. The Fire Warriors are just like Toph and Mai. I do like Azula’s conversation with the spirit Ursa, but it needs to happen with the real Ursa. Azula doesn’t know that Ursa had wanted to leave with Azula and Zuko. Azula doesn’t know that Ursa had kissed her goodbye first before Zuko. Azula doesn’t know that Ursa was not in any position of power that she could protect the former from Ozai. Azula doesn’t know that Ursa is a victim of Ozai. Azula gives me angry wet cat vibes. She’s acting like one, specifically her cat fight with the spirit Ty Lee and her catty remarks. In the show, Azula was a big threat. But now she is a nuisance with attacking warehouses and sabotaging food supplies. I love the fact that Zirin called her out on it. She’s not going to have a Zuko redemption because she’s not Zuko if the writers want her to be redeemed. They’re different. Zuko always had good in him. Azula needs to learn that controlling people through fear is not going to work. I wonder how Azula is going to interact if the spirit had turned into Ozai. That would be quite interesting to read, since she knows that Ozai molded her into a weapon. Azula looks almost the same age as when she appeared in Zuko Alone flashbacks. I thought she would be younger because she’s a prodigy. Ursa’s reaction is perfect. She is trying so hard to keep up a fake smile because Ozai is there and she knows him. She knows that he will start molding Azula and pull her away from her mother. Azula is still firebending the same way with her fists after the betrayal of Mai and Ty Lee. She’s not firebending with her two fingers. I don’t remember if she had firebended with her two fingers in the Search and Smoke & Shadow.
