Azulon is Sozin’s son. It goes like this Sozin > Azulon > Ozai > Zuko. Ozai is the grandson of Sozin. And Zuko’s mom is the granddaughter of Roku. In the comics it was revealed that Azulon forced Ursa (Roku’s granddaughter) to marry his son Ozai, so their children (Azula and Zuko) get both royal genes and Avatar Roku’s powerful genes. Ursa already loved someone else, but was forced to give up on him because of the threats that Ozai and Azulon were threatening both her and her family. In the continuation comics we get to know where she disappeared to, which tbh is a really interesting story that the creators should’ve continued in the animated show.

It's been years since I watched the cartoon and I've forgotten a lot of the details. The fact that Roku and Sozin were friends and how Roku died are a couple of details that I had forgotten. I learn a lot of things that I'd forgotten, thanks to you guys discussing things that happened or didn't happen in the episodes. This episode is actually my favorite in this live action series. Such an important episode for Zuko.

I’m enjoying this as my second watch more than I did in my first watch

agreee the roku thing wouldve been sooo cool, but i think they opted to trade that scene for the kiyoshi scene in episode two, because we never got that in the show at all. we just got that brief moment of kiyoshi admitting to killing chin the conqueror thru aang in season 2 but no fighting or bending. So as much as i would have loveddd the epic roku takeover, im glad we got atleast one avatar taking over aang :)

This is the best episode of Season 1. 💯
