52:46 This criticism is kind of off. That Tony and Howard scene is easily NEEDED in a film like this, it completes his entire story arc. Regardless of how divided everyone maybe on the film as a whole, inconsistencies and all. No one can take away the impact and overall character development Tony Stark has gone through, throughout the entirety of the MCU. Saying it’s not in his character to care and “make the sacrifice play” (Avengers 1) is wrong. Iron Man from Iron Man 1-2 is an entirely different person from Civil War, IW, Endgame Iron Man. He isn’t selfish, pompous brat who did hero work for the hell of it anymore. He isn’t my favorite character by any mean being a long time comic reader. But given the circumstances he’s been through for these past couple films/years, along with Cap would do so again given the chance more so than anyone else. (The snap) Tony is the most developed character/person in the MCU we have seen so far.

My Perspective Watch thor 1 man, Odin clearly said whoever holds this hammer if he be worthy shall posses the power of thor, last time I checked summoning lightning is part of thors powers therefore cap can summon lightning too while wielding mjolnir. Also he moved the damn hammer in age of ultron, you can't move it if you're not worthy, that means cap was worthy and he just didn't want to pick it up. Why would cap attempt to pick mjolnir in endgame? Why did thor say I knew it? It's because he's always been worthy. Also you have no idea if he was trying his best to pick up that hammer, if he can make it move he can pick it up.

Chris Papadopuniger Think of the Gauntlet made for Thanos as a way to reuse the power of the stones and weaponize them. What Stark made was a science fair version of that. Hell Banner could barely snap his finger when he put the glove on, and that was without even using the stones.

Well that’s why the mcu will always be trash to me. They always run away from their super powerful characters. Reason being is because they don’t know how to handle them and don’t wanna take risk. You see DC will fail from time to time because they have powerful characters and it’s hard to bring those characters to the big screen and make them relatable. When they try to make them relatable people get mad because they changed the character and blah blah blah. Marvel needs to be held accountable for not being able to bring their OP characters to the forefront in a well done manner.

MW 77 but she is strong in the comics. She is as strong in these movies as Thor should be but again they don’t know how to do powerful characters. The MCU didn’t create captain marvel, it’s marvel that made her a Mary Sue. They are only using what’s given to them and respecting the source material to a point when it comes to her. Way more then they do with Thor or hulk which is stupid but I have no problem with captain marvel especially since galacticus and silver surfer will most likely show up and give her some problems.

I think the criticism of Iron Man being the one to take the fall to save everyone over Cap is unfair, especially after you guys just finished talking about bad character development with Hulk. If Cap is the one to do it then what? That’s not character development because that’s who Cap has always been, there’s nothing surprising about that because that’s exactly what ppl expected. Iron Man being unselfish and sacrificing himself is great character development for a character who has been selfish and egotistical. I agree Tony has always been front and center and that can be an issue. But considering Iron Man started all of this in 2008 I think it was fitting.

Im at like 35:55 rn. U guys looked confused on why tony was the guy. This isn't my words this is the writers. Its this simple tony has always been selfish and cap has always been selfless. Cap needed to think about himself by going back with peggy and tony needed to make that sacrifice play in the finest hour. What better way to evolve and end these character arcs. It makes perfect sense and it was a good way to send them off. And when tony died i got chocked up. I just think everyone has different emotion levels cuz i was tearing up and id cry easily. And if the scene didnt get u the music will. I just think everyone is different emotionally

Tony has not always been selfish. He was ready to die for the greater good in IM1. He lays down on the wire in Avengers 1. He also makes the sacrifice play in Age of Ultron and again in Infinity War. He was ready to die in all of those movies to save the world. It is so repetitive at this point. It doesn't feel like the character moved forward from Avengers 1. I really think it was a bad decision to kill Tony. I don't like cap's ending either. He just makes a pretty terrible, selfish decision to leave his friends to go live in the past. It has bad repercussions if you think about it. Imo they should have killed Steve and had Tony retire.

In regards to Hulk, if what I read can be believed, the forced by Disney inclusion of Captain Marvel is what killed his comeback moment. I read that in the original script, Banner - buffered by his rage over BW dying - was supposed to rampage thru Thanos's ship and bring it down. It was showing that he could use the Hulk the way we know the character as well as callback to A1 when he was chasing BW thru the Helicarrier. Except instead of incidental damage it's all in purpose. But no, Russos had to find a way to work Captain Marvel into the last battle, so she took that away from Hulk. That would've been so much cooler and a complete arc for Hulk/Banner if he'd been the one to take out the ship. Gonna EDIT in my comment on Cap and the hammer. In my opinion, Cap was always worthy. He chose not to pick it up because that's the kind of guy he is. He knew it would embarrass Thor and make him look bad, that's not what Cap would do. Everyone else during that AOU montage wanted to show up Thor, not Cap. I think he knew he could do it and spared a friend's ego. At that point, Thor was still all about what the hammer made him. Also, I agree 100% with Jay on time travel should have actually been parallel universe hopping to make more sense. It drove me nuts watching things in their past be radically altered but theyre like, "lol no, it's just a different timeline from this point on". I don't think it's wise to fuck around with time in that manner.

The death of Tony was well earned and it was never meant for Cap. Cap already sacrificed enough well up to that point from his first movie alone. He sacrificed having a life with the love of his life, he sacrificed his status as a hero to save his best friend. The point of Cap was to earn his "rest" like Tony except that for him it was to have an actual life. Everyone else found a bit of happiness in their life except for Steve, because he could never stop being Captain America.

I loved this movie. The original avengers's acting was phenomenal in this movie. The scene where Tony came back and got angry at Cap and Hawkeye yelling at Thor after Black Widow dies, and Black Widow trying to find Hawkeye the scenes were great and filled with emotion. And when Tony died and Pepper said you can rest now I cried like a baby. The character we have been following for years is gone and he sacrificed himself for the world, he grew so much as a hero. Thinking about Endgame makes me tear up knowing this is the end

My problem is if captain America went back to live with Peggy then he went back to a time where there is already a captain America active. So are we to assume that there were two Captain America’s in that timeline or that cap was living with Peggy without people knowing he is the exact same person as the captain America they have already in the timeline he went back too. I get it that he went back to a time most likely that he was in the ice but then once again this movie has a hero purposely leaving another timeline fucked because that means that fury won’t go look for cap in the ice because in that timeline cap lived to be an old man unless our cap told fury look make sure to go get my other self in the ice. Idk time travel sometimes is too much.

(My Opinion) Iron man was the glue in these films that marvel wanted to keep the bigger story around. If it wasn't for iron man many things and movies wouldn't happen. Marvel needed him in many movies because I believe this was always apart of the huge story Kevin Feige had from the beginning. Kevin was probably like "Let's make a movie about a hero nobody ever seen on the big screen and make a Skywalker type of story with his character to introduce many other characters just to tell one huge epic story." This is why it feels more like iron man story because it is. It always has been. Now I bet you all the money in the world if the first movie was Captain America. It would be all about his big story in a bigger universe. They know what they was doing.

Tony Stark=Sherlock Holmes(not referencing RDJ's portrayal of the character, I'm simple using a relevant narrative) Thanos=Moriarty Endgame= "The Final Problem" Tony's Infinity Gauntlet/snap=Reichenbach Falls. The Russo brothers nailed it. Because they didn't determine that Stark was going to go out the way he did. The natural progression of the story arc determined it. There's an insane amount evidence in numerous films that point to Tony and Thanos being two sides of the same ill fated coin. In Ultron it's Tony who says the line "up there, that's the Endgame", and guess who was up there, Thanos? Also, in Infinity War, when Banner told Stark it was Thanos who sent Loki, Tony shook his head and said, "this is it". Not to mention, the fact that Stark the knowingly boarded an alien ship without back up, not just to save Strange and the time Stone, but so he could face the man, whom he said had "been in his head for six years", light years away from earth, on Thanos's home planet. Finally, when Doctor Strange tells Thanos he's a "master of the mystic arts". He doesn't even flinch, because he's not impressed. He simply refers to him as Wizard, and he calls Spiderman an insect. But during the battle, when Iron Man addressed him. He called him "Stark", and said that Tony wasn't "the only one cursed with knowledge", (two sides of the same ill fated coin revisited) so Thanos showed little to no respect or concern for any of his opponents including the Avengers, except for Stark. Whom he verbalized his respect for, and told him ". I hope they remember you". I could go on, but it would take far too long. Cap's story arc has always been grounded, Bucky, Betty, Red Skull and Hydra. Never Thanos. Again, the Russo brothers nailed it.

At 1540 y'all missed the difference between Stark's guantlet and the dwarfs guantlet. The guantlet Stark made didn't protect you from the stones power. You couldn't just use one or two stones and using all of them would fuck you up. When Thanos snapped the first time, it didn't do shit to him. It fried the guantlet which is why the 2nd snap fucked him up but the first snap didn't do shit. That's the difference. Anyone can make a glove that can hold the stones. Only the dwarf could make a gusntket that can contain them. It's also why the axe he made was able to cut through the stones.

Ironman death and Pepper felt like the movie Gladiator's ending. He can finally rest now. His journey remind me like Thano's journey to rest. Thano knows that he will rest after his mission but Tony need to be told to rest. Tony won't rest unless he dies. Cap journey was finally be selfish or happiness for once in his life. His journey reminds me of Batman's journey in TDKR. He never wanted to died in the battlefield but wanted to be with his girl. Duty over happiness is a huge theme for Cap. Being Captain America does have it burden even for Steve Rogers. Being unselfish all the time is hard even for him. This one time he can be selfish and happy. Now the ending is not airtight. It felt like how Lost Final Season deal with its character. Story get push a side so the character shine. Hulk journey was about character arc that went it goes from thinking it is a cursed to being cured. I think writers will like his arc more than fans of badass Hulk. They also wanted to show more of acting abilities of the actor. I wanted more of World War Hulk but I get it from a writers perspective. Hulk will divide fans. They will still keep using the Hulk so his new arc for new movies might be different. Thor direction came from the actor. The actor only wants play Ragnarok Thor. He was really bored with playing pre-Ragnarok Thor. He is spoiled kid that is in depression and lost of confident. Fat Thor is not as strong as Peak Thor. Isn't Thor rusty in fighting for 5 years? Even a god can get rusty from fighting if they haven't done that in a while. This direction will divide fans. Thanos mentally was different. IW Thanos felt like a calm holy religious Eco-terrorist that just on a mission. EG Thanos felt like an mad tyrant that want to destroy everyone. It doesn't matter how strong someone if their state mind is different. Their time travel logic need more time. It would create so many plot holes. Alternate reality would of been way easier for them. I prefer if they didn't use time travel if they didn't think thought their rules and logic.

The gauntlet could've gone to anyone. We know why it went to Tony. Mainly because it was his invention, but he was also the first of them (movie wise) and it's the end of the journey he started. It could've gone to Cap because he, a man out of time, a hero, the first avenger, would do it in a heartbeat. Thor could do it because he'd probably live, and he has nothing to lose. Plus, they could've redeemed him somehow. I hate how he was Shakespeare, to goof, to perfect (IW), to a powerful joke.
