At 7:35 really cool to see how the airplane “sat down” after raising the flaps! Shows why some aircraft call for raising flaps after a short field landing for better braking. First time I’ve seen it on video.

Good work, love the scenery..... I got to step up my game!!! I FEEL your pain on cameras overheating, as luck would have it the only one that had an internal mike pick-up, overheated on us several times on our Bahamas or Bust series, we since have purchased a dedicated Digital Audio Recorder, that way no matter what camera was off for any reason, we could piece mill that segment of video with audio....

I liked at about 7:30 you could see the nose wheel reacting to your rudder input, and at "flaps up" the main gear strut compressed when you lost that extra lift. Stuff you don't think about much but good camera placement shows us!

Although I prefer the High Wing planes, I did develop an affection for a particular 180 in an Aero Club I belonged too. Not only was she a few knots faster than the others in the fleet (Solid 115 knots), she would carry over 700 lbs with full fuel.

Just bought a cherokee and flew it home from Maine to Dallas. Coming from cessnas the gear struts are a whole new experience lol. Also flaps then brakes you tires will appreciate it
@camerongoodwin2020
@camerongoodwin2020 4 жыл бұрын
I fly an Archer...what do you mean when you say flaps then brakes? Using your flaps to slow down during rollout instead of hitting the brakes right away? Just curious. Thanks,
@ethanhiggins4887
@ethanhiggins4887 4 жыл бұрын
@@camerongoodwin2020 If you are trying to stop quickly you need to raise the flaps or you will flat spot the tires. Not only applies for cherokees. Thats why stol aircraft always raise the flaps immediately. Edit: Basically puts more weight on the tires for more traction
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot
@BenWeeksBonanzaPilot 4 жыл бұрын
Makes since for good braking, but be careful with raising flaps on the active if you fly retractable. You might inadvertently raise the gear instead of the flaps.

Seeing this, and highly likely the rest of the series, will definitely reinvigorate my efforts to get behind the yoke and work on getting a Cherokee D 180 airworthy after 5+ years of it being earth bound. I don't have my PPL, but have 20+ hours training, but haven't soloed due to previous time/financial restraints, which staggered my training too much. Any tips besides fly often (2+ times a week) to get that ticket? Should I immediately pursue an instrument rating as well?
