A "$100 Hamburger" is a blanket term in the aviation community meaning any food that you get in the airplane and fly to. In this case, a $100 Pizza in the middle of NOWHERE! The Skwentna Roadhouse is a must. Go check it out!

Reference 7:18 in the timeline: Once in 1991, I was standing on the UPS ramp waiting to load our aircraft with freight (I was FO) and a 747 took off on 33. As he got over a point about 1000 or so feet from the departure end of the runway, he lost a wheel. It fell from about 400-500 feet, hit the runway, and bounced a couple hundred feet into the air and into the woods just off the end of the runway. So I brought it to the attention of my chief pilot, who I was flying with that morning, and he called the tower from our aircraft. The tower called the 747 crew and told them they'd lost a tire/wheel. I'll never forget what the Korean pilot said, in a heavily-Korean accent of course: "We don't need it anymore." True story. They made it to Korea and, because they had burned off all the fuel on the trip, landed without incident. Turns out that they really didn't need it after all.

I have a feeling that after this series is over, a whole lot of people will be screeching out cLeAr! In a loud voice just for the heck of it! LOL Great series so far. Excellent story telling. A few minutes with the owner of that lodge would add to the documentary feel of the video. Just a suggestion, maybe for a "Directors Cut" version to come out later?

It looks like a cumulonimbus cloud because it's a pyrocumulus cloud. It's the same phenomena as cumulus clouds, only the source of lift is the heat from the fire. Lighting sometimes develops in them.

Beautiful video. Following the river was a good idea, plenty of gravel bars to land on if you need too. But lowering your flaps when you have a long runway ahead with nothing but trees below was not. I never touch the flaps till I have the runway made in that situation.

Brings me back. I learned how to fly at Anchorage International years ago in a 150. Used to use that area as my practice place. Remember coming back over the bay each time-- almost hit an F16 in slow flight one day. Neither of us saw each other. Since it was the day after the first Star Wars movie, all I could remember as I passed about 15 feet below was 'cool, just like Star Wars" (didn't tell my instructor, goes without saying) Ahh, the stupidity of youth!
