I saw a few Damascus hunting knives in a sporting goods store and they are gorgeous. I thought $180 was pretty high priced but now that I've seen how they are made they are very worth it.
@danunger32406 ай бұрын
If you saw "Damascus" knives in a sporting goods store, and they were only $180, they were probably garbage. Pakistani crapmascus. Genuine, pattern welded damascus knives would cost a lot more, and are worth it. Those Pakistani "Damascus" knife shaped objects are probably made from recycled Yugo fender steel. Total junk.

The wavy pattern only appears once he dips the knife in that oil. Does that mean the pattern is artificial and that's not real Damascus steel??
@obsideonyx76042 жыл бұрын
Did a quick Wikipedia read, is apparently called Acid etching or Chemical milling, it darkens the plain carbon steel more than it does the low alloy nickel steel, producing alternating bands of light and dark on the surface But I also found that in a way, this is fake Damascus steel because the forging process of the real thing is unknown. Apparently Real Damascus Steel has nano-structures we don't know how to make.
@cashinyourface2 жыл бұрын
@@obsideonyx7604 Damascus steel most of the time is pattern welded steel made up of 2 different types of high carbon steel. From what I know there are spots on earth where the alloy naturally occurred (still had to be dipped in acid to see the alternating metals). This type of Damascus when done correctly can be better structurally because it’s just the 2 strong types of steel with almost no impurities.
