I think they bred at least 8 species now, including the Chinese sturgeon which almost near extinct. In fact without this farm, sturgeon will have same fate with Chinese paddlefish and axolotl, they will extinct naturally. They're endangered not because of hunting, but because their habitat is doomed because human activity. You can't protect anything if the one you protect doesn't have home anymore.

Sterlet sturgeon are bred everywhere for food. You can literally buy their meat online for like $30. Sterlets rarely grow more than a meter and you can commonly find them being sold as pond fish as well. Acipenser ruthenus is their scientific name and they are vulnerable in the wild (mainly caviar and dams), but the reason they are so common is simply because they are a really good aquaculture fish and almost all individuals you see are captive bred. There have also been projects to reintroduce captive bred sturgeon back into wild habitats. They make decent pond fish if you live in cooler climates and you can generally pick up live specimens for about $200-$300.

Well, since chickens are birds, I’d be more surprised if they weren’t obsessed with shiny things lmfao. They do also naturally eat insects and some small prey like mice, even. So they also might have chased the lure due to those instincts as well. Kinda reminds me of playing with a cat with a wand toy with a little mouse on the end.

The week we were there, we fished for a sturgeon. We caught one, and we had a fish fry You mentioning it was endangered made my stomach sink, but I Googled it and MN dnr website says there's both a catch and release and harvest season, which I think our trip coincided with, thankfully. weird how it says it's a "juvenile snailfish" as snailfish is a generic term, describing multiple related species (similar to terms like minnow or carp). It's a hadal snailfish (named for being found in the hadal zone). not too terribly much is known about them, for obvious reason, but they're very neat little fish!

Carp taste good. There are captive bred sturgeon, those tend to be bred for color mutations. There are wild colored hetero for another recessive color. I don't watch the basement aquarium channel. While I think the basement aquarium pool is interesting, but I wouldn't stock it with eels and other fish like he has. I'd find cave fish, or make an effort to match up the specific water conditions for the North American cave fish that are super rare and need people who are willing to create aquariums to save the different species.
