I moved to Vancouver a year and a half ago. It is pretty much devoid of culture but has a good Saturday market. Things shut down early. There's only a few good bars and a few breweries. Regular bars are rough and attract a fighting crowd. It's a suburban strip mall life and the downtown is very small. The new waterfront offers a bit of upscale dining.

Hearing the bridge commute go from a 15 minute to a 25 commute made me laugh out loud. 😂😂 I’m from southern cali.

Lived here for 10 years. Been coming to visit since i was born. My moms side of the family lives here. Things were great till recently. Things i dont like. 1.Tweakers /bums 2. Property crime (car prowlers) 3. Lakes are polluted (toxic algae) 4. Traffic. Going anywhere is nearly 30 plus min 5. Agressive /bad drivers (i lived in a few states and this region takes the cake for horrible drivers) 6. Over crowded. In the 90s early 2000s you can go anywhere and find a parking spot. Today its a pain just to find a spot at costco. All the recreation sites are full of oregon plates . 7. Part of the reason i moved to WA instead of back to san diego after i served in the seabees was the gun laws were much better in WA. That changed a few years ago now my family and i are leaving the state. Not everything here is bad ,things i like 1. Doesnt take long to get away. 2. Beautiful land. 3. Nice summers Thats about it. This region has changed dramatically in the past 10 years. And not for the better.

I used to live in Vancouver and it's quite the sprawl west to east. Vancouver was founded in 1825, 26 years before Portland which gives Vancouver a good foothold along the river. The waterfront is new and fun, but it's located in the far west of the city. My dad lives out towards Fisher's Landing which is 12+ miles away. Vancouver has 190k people (which is a tad smaller than Salt Lake City), a lot of whom work in Oregon which (to the point in the video) creates a traffic snarl. Freeways from OR to WA starts backing up at 2pm. Granted, traffic all around this metro area has gotten worse from the sheer growth since the start of the century. Vancouver is a booming city, that's 100% correct. Vancouver probably has the advantage for people wanting to start a family w/ cheaper housing and rent. For me, and this is just my preference, I don't care for Vancouver's look of mega cookie cutter suburban sprawl. I used to live out by Mt. View HS and it's very generic looking. But that might be what someone is looking for. Especially east of I-205. I'm not hating on The 'Couve, just wanna give that city aesthetic insight. One local dialect heads up: I-5, not "the five", I-205, not "the 205". Just sayin'. Great vid!

He made his video in the one half mile section of the waterfront that is new, heavily patrolled, and still clean. If he walked down past that bridge behind him, there would be alot of homeless

I disagree with your comments about Ridgefield schools. Over crowded and multiple levies to build new schools for booming population are not passing. Kids classes in gyms etc, Extreme folks voting against needed schools. Only move to Ridgefield if you are a senior.

My friend he just moved there he sold his house in Hawaii, andbe loving it Vancouver, abd we trying to visit oneday or live there.

TRAFFIC ISSUE: A classical issue of all American towns. There is virtually no planning in regards to public transportation. There should be a Regional Express train system with a conversion of shopping malls into train stations with high density walkable housing.

I want to move to Vancouver I wanted to know if there is public transportation like bus trains ..and universities in Vancouver or universities close to Vancouver. Which side of town do you recommend

Great video. Confirms most everything I've heard. I'm interested in moving up but would probably want to rent to see how well I do. I love the weather, though I actually find the summers to be too warm! I love rain and snow, and grey skies don't bother me. I've been in Reno for the last four years and I'm not fond of the dryness and lack of rain. Lived in Tahoe for years until it became an enclave of Silicon Valley! Question: how feasible is the drive to Mt. Hood for skiing, and is it crowded? I skied there once several years ago, and being that it was June, it wasn't crowded! Does it get crowded in the winter and spring? Also, I think the city of Vancouver is really vibrant in the downtown and waterfront areas, but are there affordable areas that are still somewhat pedestrian and bike friendly? I would be working and living in the area. Thank you!

Why do people complain about homelessness like you do? I come from a large city east of the Mississippi, and yeah we had them. I've lived in Seattle and now in s mid-sized city on the West Coast, and we have them. We also have folks crying about homelessness while not doing anything about it. Larger cities that have either money (like New York, Chicago, Philly, Houston) or temperate to warm weather (like every West Coast city with 100K or more) will have homeless people. That's just the way it is. What you CAN do is stop complaining and vote to have a slight increase in your taxes, locally and nationally, to house the people with mental/emotional/psychological problems. If you don't want your tax dollarss to go for that, then you don't really care.

We just moved out of downtown Vancouver, WA. The homeless and drug use is escalating into town form Portland. The waterfront and downtown area of Vancouver are getting very unsafe. It will get alot worse now that mayor Wheeler is enforcing anti camping in Portland. Across the bridge they are coming.

Vancouver, WA is all homekees and needles! Go to Astoria or Bellingham!!

Don't move to Portland.

Its a disaster! Homeless took over

I grew up in Portland in the Alameda neighbor hood. I went to Alameda grade school , Grant HS and later to OSU. I now live in Vancouver because of the lack of income taxes. Noq they snuck n a retractive capital gain tax. I am going to leave WA state and the US all together. The US is doomed. It is corrupt beyond redemption. Bad police, bad prosecutors, bad judges and bad politicians. The whole left coast is doomed. When I grew up it was safe to take a bus from 28th and Skdmore to down town Portland. Now who wants to get to down town Portland. The house I grew up in was built in 1920. The curb was imported with 1910. There were rings to tie up horses. There are homeless people camping along the burnt bridge walk way that goes roughly from 92nd Ave to Vancouver Lake. I recenrly had a bike stolen from my garage. In 2021 I was assulted and threaten with a semi-automatic pistol in Battle Ground. The police are corrupt. So are the prosecutors. I am leaving. I don't recommend Vancouver WA or the left coast at all. I do hope to sell my condo. I am moving out of the country.
