Great 1 on 1 video. I did notice that there was a "self portrait" when the flash was moved up high at 4:04 and 5:22 in the video. I saw reflection of Mark in Monique's glasses.

i figured this out through experience. most of the time if i have a light to my right or left i would just move slightly until the flare is removed. this works for sunlight flare when shooting outside as well.

This is great, but if you are shooting a series of headshots you want consistency between shots. If some people are not wearing glasses, but you have moved lights, it will affect the results. Would it not be better to have a large softbox positioned pointing sideways and in front of the model and maybe a little fill in a similar position on the other side? Excellent videos Mark, really helpful.

Mark - great tutorial as usual =) I have one question though... Could a circular polarizer be a solution in this case as well? =) Since light bouncing off the glasses is polarized it should do the trick, wouldn't it?

Any way you can change the angle of reflection on a mounted light? I just bought one that is mounted on top of the camera but now I'm thinking I should have gotten the umbrella lights..

I'll wager that it's a 70-200mm 2.8 he's using, maybe zoomed to somewhere between 70 and 100mm. if so, then he's using it because there'll be no perspective issues, no distortion, and the compression is great. It's a beautiful lens.

What is the impact on this by the inverse square law? I'm thinking mainly where you raise your light source. I know you are reflecting light back in, but isn't it only a fraction of the light you had initially?
@MomentphotographyCoUk

You could increase the light power, but the increased distance causes harder shadows; unless you also increase the size of the light source.

If you're using bare off camera flash, the same principles apply. You're just changing the angle of your light source. The rule of the angle of incidence equalling the angle of reflection doesn't change. Just the light won't be as soft. For convex lenses, you can ask your subject to tilt her head down and/or across a little off axis to your light source until the reflection doesn't register in the specs. Failing that, ask her politely to take it off.

Sadly these are not practical applications to use, and as was noticed the video camera had reflection as well. Flash reflection happens outdoors and is not practical to expect someone to carry a truck load with them. Great idea but it is studio applicable only and well sunglasses are not often worn indoors :)
