An automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is a solid state electronic device for automatically maintaining generator output terminal voltage at a set value. It will try and do this as the generator load or operating temperature changes. The AVR is part of the alternators excitation system.
The SX460 is an analogue, 2-phase sensing, self-excited automatic voltage regulator (AVR), was previously used on our UC22 and UC27 alternators. The AVR is linked with the main stator windings and the exciter field windings to provide closed loop control of the output voltage.

Very clear video, thank you! I want to install this for a Mitsubishi MGE5800, the problem I face is that the stator output is zero when the generator starts (if I start the generator without any field voltage I have no AC), it needs exciter field voltage to produce AC. In the original AVR it takes in a 20Vac supply from a separate coil to the AVR and that allows the 20Vdc exciter voltage to generate, but in this setup there is no supply so I’m not sure how this works when there is no initial AC output from generator.

Hi Rainnel in self excited system we have stored residual Magnetism which help to produce initial build up voltage for AVR

I have a question if this AVR what is the difference when the configuration is 3 phase (N) and (S) of the Output V+.on exciter winding ? - the generator works stably on exciter winding= resistance 5 ohms at 4 Volts and 1 Ampere. does this type of avr have the ability to set such a low voltage?

I have an 8 terminal connected avr but couldn'''t find localy and want to use sps460 avr which is as you explained perfectly above. Is it ok if I drop the axulary winding with sps winding? if so what is the impact?

Hi. Great explanation. I have a single phase 240 vac, 50Hz diesel powered (1500 rom) generator. The AVR is missing. I do have a SX460 AVR available. Is it possible to use the SX 460 AVR on my generator?
