There is a reason why they are in the big four. They can appear to be a little silly but they have a ton of heavy bangers!

Yeah they were just a lot less serious than their west coast counterparts. Kind of dorky at times, but they were cool dorks. That's where I went when I wanted fun thrash instead of pissed at the world thrash.

Off of persistence of time album I'd suggest the cover of Got the Time or the original keep it in the family or Belly of the Beast. Their album from 2016 for all kings is an amazing album and probably one if their best.

Agree. Worship music was really good too, but I do have to say both records had to grow on me. Joey's voice has matured nicely and he sounds better now than back then in my opinion.

@@jackal7498 I was too! I was like what??? You're bringing that guy back? Dude that era is gone. Then I heard why and am glad they did. Although I think it was originally just for a big four show and they apparently decided he was the right fit again. He basically replaced their 'new' singer who baled on them while recording what ended up being worship music. Guess the timing was just right.

Love Anthrax so damn much. They are the band I progressed to after AC/DC and jesus almost all of my metal "education" revolves around them in some way. For over 30's years has been my favourite band.

Singer Joey Belladonna is the best singer of the Big 4. Anthrax did a covers album called Anthem and they did covers of songs by RUSH, Journey, Cheap Trick, Boston, etc.

Anything from the album Persistence of Time will be up your alley if you liked this. Also the newer stuff from their most recent two albums. Think you'll also like anything from the John Bush-fronted album Sound of White Noise and a few other songs from his era of Anthrax like "Inside Out" which has Dimebag from Pantera on the solo.

Hey T, you should check out the Anthrax 40th anniversary series of YT videos. It's a bunch of short vids with all the players & a bunch of familiar metal musicians, including Dave Mustane & Kerry King. The videos have stories about recording, touring, & funny shit that happened over their 40 years of rocking out! Definitely worth a watch, there's 5-6 vids now, & they drop new vids every couple days.

Agree with others that this album is the best, I think it has more melody in the songs and is a very memorable album the first time you hear it, so you naturally get into it more. I'm not a big Anthrax fan, but I do own this album, and I will say this concert tour when the album came out was one the most fun shows I have ever seen, the whole crowd had smiles and loved it. Anthrax was part of a 4 band show with a monster line-up. Testament/Anthrax/Megadeth/Judas Priest...and check out the debut albums Souls of Black - Persistence of Time - Rust in Peace - Painkiller.

The first time the term Thrash was used, it was describing Anthrax.
@joelofaro5719
@joelofaro5719 3 жыл бұрын
Andy, that isn't correct. The term "Thrash" was being used before Anthrax. It was used in the Hardcore scene. Look up the 1982 comp. "New York Thrash," and check out some books with old Hardcore, and, possibly old Metal flyers. I know Anthrax formed in '81/'82, but it was already in use, and it referred to the fast downstrokes.
@Hailme75
@Hailme75 3 жыл бұрын
@@joelofaro5719 The term "thrash metal" was first used in the music press by Kerrang! magazine's journalist Malcolm Dome while making a reference to another of the "Big Four", Anthrax, and their song "Metal Thrashing Mad".[17] Prior to this, Metallica frontman James Hetfield referred to his band's sound as speed metal or power metal.
@joelofaro5719
@joelofaro5719 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hailme75 But your first comment was referring the first usage of the word "Thrash," not "Thrash Metal." Like I said, it was already used on an 1982 Hardcore Punk compilation, named "New York Thrash." I remember hearing, Ron Quintana, if remember correctly, he is either a radio host in San Franciso, a music writer in San Francisco, or both. He was around when the Bay Area Thrash Metal Scene, first started, and when he was asked where the term "Thrash" came from, he said that he also went to Hardcore Punk shows, such as the Dead Kennedys. He called the DKs "Thrash," before he mentioned the term in connection with the later "Thrash Metal Scene." Also, the Moshing associated with Thrash Metal, came out of the Slam Dancing of Hardcore Punk, and if you take a look at the old Hardcore flyers, you will come across that word, on some of them. These were shows played before Anthrax, or the other Big Four, even had records out. I'm not trying to belittle Thrash Metal. I just want to see credit given to where it's due. Now, would you tell me when Malcolm Dome, mentioned Thrash Metal, in that issue of Kerrang!?
@Hailme75

@@joelofaro5719 this is a thrash metal band. Sorry, I should have specified that the first time a metal band was labeled thrash was anthrax.
@joelofaro5719

@@Hailme75 Sorry, I wasn't trying to give you grief. I just remembered that the Metallica song "Whiplash" has that verse "They're Thrashing All Around," so, maybe it also was used in the context of getting wild, at the show. Both Hardcore Punk and Metal have wild fans! I saw what you were referring to, in regards to Anthrax, and their song "Metal Thrashing Mad," on the 1984, "Fistful Of Metal" album, and the review by Malcom Dome in Kerrang!, where he called them "Thrash Metal." Again, I apologize for butting in on your comment. I just wanted people to know that there is more to the story than most people know.

Anthrax was different from all the 80's thrash metal bands cos of Joe Belladonna's vocals and lyrics that had a lot of dark humor... even when original singer Neil Turbin was in Anthrax, he could belt out high vocals in 'Metal thrashing mad' ... In the 90's, they got John Bush on vocals, they went in a weird direction away from thrash metal. Check out these Anthrax classics: "I am the law" ... "Time" ... "A.I.R." ... :Be all, end all"... "Schism" ... "What doesn't die"... 🤘🔥

Yes!!! Finally got to one of the right anthrax songs!!! Reaction channels get flooded with the same mediocre tracks and they dont like anthrax as a result. Also do belly of the beast including the intro, which is called intro to reality. In the 90's they changed direction and got a new vocalist named John bush from a band called armored saint. I highly suggest starting with only, but the whole sound of white noise disc was great. Their lead guitarist also left and dimebag did a lot of their studio leads on later albums in the 90's, however their material was hit and miss. But that's anthrax. Finally, Joey returned for vocals on their last two records and his voice has aged really well. You should check it. Scott and charly did a spinoff band called SOD (storm troopers of death) that was pretty cool, so check that out too. It's a little heavier than anthrax. Oh, and on that episode, they won anthrax for a day in some contest while the parents were on vacation or something. I've always loved that show too.

The fact that no one has requested: Metal Thrashing Mad, Medusa, Deathrider, or anything from the Jon Bush Era is insane to me. Even the Newer By All Kings has better, Thrashyer Anthrax. Anthrax has good stuff, but for some reason people are recommending the radio stuff to you. Take a listen to Deathrider or Metal Thrashing Mad. Anthrax is not my favourite Thrash band. As German Thrash exists. Even amongst American Thrash, Anthrax has a curse. They are inconsistent.
