If you're anything like me, you like cool tools. This product is no exception! Axiom Stratus is takes the old idea of a shop air cleaner and turns it upside down.. almost literally. Instead of it being on the ceiling where all the dust needs to raise past your face and nose, this air cleaner sits on the floor next to where you're working to clean the air around you. I mean, why fight gravity, the dust is already falling to the floor right?

Nice looking, but at close to 700 balloons for the pro version that's quite a bit pricing for many. How does it compare to other systems of similar performance?

That is a very nice filter and it works great. I would be tempted to use some Loctite or plumbers weld to stop the bottom from being loosened unless you need access to something at the bottom?.

It's not all that mad to be honest it's just something I noticed, I think I might make a little cart with casters to help it out :)

Thanks for the video! I saw this filter rated well in one of my woodworking magazines. Like you I don't have any filtration in my garage shop, but I need to get something. What sort of cfm rating does the stratus have? Is it comparable to one of those ceiling units? My garage is lousy with accumulated dust, so I wonder if I could eventually clean it up using such a filter? Thanks! Frank

@SouthernGinger 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the cfm but this takes a different approach. It's localized to where you're working and not just a ceiling mount.

How close does it need to be to where you are working? If you have a small garage shop could you just set it in a corner?

Maybe but the most effective way is to use it near where you are, within 6ft I would say.

Great video and one of the few reviews on this unit that's out there. Has your opinion of this air cleaner changed over the past 3 years? I am considering this over a ceiling-mounted cleaner as it's logical to have the cleaner closest to the source. Not worried about the noise since my Oneida Supercell is very loud as it is.

Hello, I have a very small workshop. I would like to know how effective the stratus pro is to use with my wooden lathe. I have not seen any reviews yet of this machine with a lathe, how effective would it be?
@SouthernGinger
@SouthernGinger 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, if imagine it would work great for the finer dust but not the chips and such. This is really great for the airborne dust.
@enriquealvarez_artesano

@@SouthernGinger really what worries me is the fine dust since the rest is collected by the dust collector, I wanted to buy a mask with an integrated air system but at the moment they are sold out and prices doubled, that's why my question since now I will not be able to buy that mask, but I want to know how effective this equipment would be with the powder that is harmful to us and affects the respiratory system

I have to wonder, could you purchase the regular non-pro version and just add the carbon filter to it? It seems like the carbon filter and the stainless steel are the only two differences.

All woodshops should have a quality air monitor like Dylos or equivalent otherwise you are just guessing at what you are breathing.

hahah Thanks buddy! I play basketball in flip flops lol!. I know it's dumb but when I just need to do something real quick I don't take the time to put on socks and shoes haha. As far as the editing you would be shocked that I filmed, edited and released this video in about 4hrs :D

Their specs for loudness are at 10' away. If you use it right next to you, you need hearing protection. 91 db or so on high!
@SouthernGinger
@SouthernGinger 3 жыл бұрын
Oh interesting, is that the fan noise or wind noise?
@paulbensel5001
@paulbensel5001 3 жыл бұрын
@@SouthernGinger Fan noise. Not measuring in the direct breeze out. Actually, even on medium, the loudness is such that prolonged exposure could be damaging if you're right next to it. Not bad at all from a distance, so still good for getting fine dust out of a room and for most operations, you should be wearing hearing protection anyway, so any distance is fine in that case. Just not as quiet as an overhead dust filter.

I have mine up on my bench, wonder if that makes a difference on noise
@paulbensel5001
@paulbensel5001 3 жыл бұрын
@@SouthernGinger It's much quieter down by the middle of the filter away from the fan, so I guess if you want to lift it up on your bench, that would mitigate the noise issue quite a bit.

That's pretty cool. Sounds like you might need to make a video building a foot with casters so it will roll around easily. And, by the way, welcome to the "flip flops in the shop" club. Prepare for the hate.

Speaking to (at least) one of the critical comments posted: Yes, it does make some noise...as do pretty much all of the tools that produce dust. It does have 3 speeds, and max speed (noise) is not required in all conditions. in any case, that's why God made hearing protection. BTW...my Grizzly downdraft table makes a whole lot more noise and doesn't filter nearly as well. As for moving it around, I'm 69 years old and I just pick it up and carry it to where I want it. If you're too wimpy to do that, buy a 4 wheel dolly at Harbor Freight for 8 bucks. When I'm running the laser on my Axiom AR-16 Elite, I pick the Stratus up and put it on the table beyond where the gantry will move in the Y axis for the project. No smoke smell at all with the carbon filter. Absolutely none. No outside venting required, and no (dangerous) use of the DC (for wood chips/dust) is needed. As far as your concerns about static...this is a total myth. There are zero documented cases of a dust explosion in a home woodworking shop. None. Period. I challenge you to produce one. Static electricity in your shop is, at best, an annoyance...but not a danger. As for dust "floating around"...that's the whole point of putting it near where the dust is generated. I'f there's airflow to a proximate point from where the dust is generated, then there's no "floating" to be had. You can prove this with a lit cigar if you'd like...or use your air quality monitor. If your head is in the path of that airflow...as with your ceiling mounted units, then all bets are off.
