First Impression, setup and first use of my Axminster Craft AC1950B BandSaw that I just acquired for my little woodworking shop I'm putting together. This will also be my first ever go on any bandsaw. Watch this before you assemble yours and it should speed your process up.

I’ve seen different views expressed about using gloves with machines, but the consensus so far seems to be ‘don’t’, because if you cut your bare finger you’ll snatch it away immediately, but the glove could get caught in the saw meaning you’ll be seriously injured by the time you switch the machine off. I’m no expert at all but I have to admit, that explanation makes sense to me. Just something to consider! Great review though.

Thanks for the feed back. I agree entirely with everything you've just mentioned. How ever I've worked as builder for 35 years and started wearing gloves about 10 years ago as my hands were always cracked to pieces and so started wearing gloves, it has become a habit now because my hands are nice and soft and no longer sore all the time

Really good choice. I have one of these. Really high quality and cuts beautifully.

Hi. The gadget with the magnet needs to be lifted off the table so that it can align with the blade. Enjoyed video.

The current (2022) version has roller bearings instead of ceramic, and you stick the fence scale on yourself so any inaccuracy is your fault! I am really pleased with mine. Personally, I would cut thin slices with the thin bit against the fence so that you have the bulk of the piece to hold onto - you get better control, and your fingers stay further from the blade!

I was hoping for a quiet alternative to my dewalt table saw. Ive got a small work shop in my loft and want to work on a night time. I thought a band saw would make a lot less noise, but still sounds loud???

It is loads quieter than my dewalt table saw. According to an app on my phone the bandsaw is 60db and the table saw is 80db. don't no how accurate that is but you don't need app the hear the difference. But I think my dust extractor is noisier than the bandsaw . Hope that helps.

Did you ever think about about getting the AC2606B which is the next size up. I am just wondering if there is much difference in them apart from the cutting depth.

Hi Anthony my first proper comment :-) i looked at it but not for very long i decided that in the future i would upgrade to something better but would see on how much cutting height i needed after i've been going for a while. But for myself i think i would of rather paid the extra £350 and got the AT2552B, i looked at them in shop and the quality is so much better, the adjustment etc is so much sleeker

@@MarkLawlerBuilder Thanks Mark for getting back to me. I had a look at AT2552B but it was out of stock and Axminster wanted £1000 for it. I think I will put that on my wish list but tomorrow I go and will buy the same band saw AC1950B. I think it will be more than adequate for my needs. I just need to re watch your video to get it set up correctly. I was impressed with the ‘ripping’ that you did and the quality of cut obtained. Are you happy with the supplied blade or would you advise me to buy further TPI blades?

@@anthonygreen9609 I think thats a good choice . The original blade is perfectly adequate as an all rounder , But the guy in the shop recommend 2 different blades one i could use for making for example bandsaw boxes and the other for ripping. they where just over £20 i think you can see the size in the blade change video. Glad this has helped

Hi Yes still really pleased ,Did a lot of research at the time and the next step up is over £1000. I'd say defiantly buy a fine blade and a ripping blade as the blade that it come with i'd say is all rounder (Axminsters own make seem really good and a fair price). Good luck and enjoy P.S Bought and lived on a canal boat back in the day when i was 17 my first home

@@MarkLawlerBuilder Thank you, really appreciate the feedback. Boating is restricted to radio controlled models these days, ( hence looking for a decent bandsaw) but like you enjoyed my time on the cut. thanks again and kind regards

Got myself one of these babies for crimbo. One thing I often hear is to invest in a good quality blade as the one in the box will be crap.

Santa's been good to you enjoy . My first bandsaw so I have no reference but the blade that came is a good blade but middle of the road general purpose. I bought Axminsters own make fine blade and a ripping blade they have both been excellent I can rip oak down at Max height no problems at all.

It doesn't sound as quiet as my metabo saw, it sounds as though it needs some lubrication to me, maybe slacken off the blade a bit sounds like it is struggling.

I want to like this review but there are too many things wrong like why are you wearing what look like rubber gloves, they give no protection and reduce your feel? When cutting, you need to bring the guides down to within a few millimetres of the wood and please, please, use the push stick, it's provided for a reason!
