Ok first be sure you know what you are getting into. Raising 500 eggs to healthy adults is time consuming but rewarding. There are many theories on how to encourage mating but I find personal a freshly cleaned tank that is set to 71°F does it. I keep my males separated from the females. I don't have to encourage anything. My tanks are always at 71°F and as soon as I put the pair together it happens naturally. Also make sure your axolotls are over a year old. Too young and you will end up with a 90% bad batch of babies and is not good for the females. Good luck

really they can mate in temp 71-72 ? I always thought they would only mate at 64

About 24hrs after mating she will begin to lay eggs. Once she has started it will take up.to 72 hrs to finish. However, I have personally never seen it take longer than 48 hrs. I've had clutches as small as 500 and as much as 1000
