Hi thanks for the questions. I enjoy helping others. There is lots to know. I will touch base on as much as I can. First axolotls won't breed until around 10 months old. Please don't let them breed that early. The babies won't be healthy. Axolotls should be at least 1.5 years old to breed. Also if your axolotls are under 9 inches chances are they may never breed. They didn't develop well. I don't breed axolotls under 11 inches. Make sure your water parameters are good and the temp is under 70° make sure they are fat and happy. A well fed axolotl is a happy one. If you have large well fed axolotls in a proper size take with the correct water parameters and they are not breeding than they may never breed. Some animals simply won't breed and there is no way of knowing why. If they ever do breed move all eggs to a bin and change water daily till the larvae that develop hatch. The sad truth is that not all will hatch and some that hatch won't make it more that a week. My average batch is 800 eggs, about 650 hatch, about 500 live to see 3 month old, and about 450 will become the right size to sell. The ones that don't grow to proper size won't be healthy or live long. Unfortunately even though they are alive they must be destroyed. It's not a good life for them and not right to sell an axolotl that's not healthy. Hope this helps

That's not actually how that works. Chimera axolotls are not possible in nature. They are man made. Two embryo in one egg is very common. They won't fuse.

@@axolotllifeaquatics4492 I know. But sometimes water pressure on an egg will push toward an egg so the 2 embryos can fuse

The temperature of the water fir the babies are the same as fir my adults. I keep all my tanks between 69° and 72° F. You will read lots of different options on what the perfect temperature is for axolotls but let me just say this. I have had axolotls for years and have raised over 3,000 babies at these temperatures. When I go too low they don't want to breed as much. My lovely Lotols are healthy ❤️👍

Hi and thank you for the question. I have installed an RO system in my house that is made for drinking water. It's not as good as the one the pet shops use but it works. I am a little extra cautious so I put seachem prine in my water every time. I use a 5 gallon bucket from home depot. If this is not an option for you you could use distilled water from the store. I change my water that my eggs are in daily but only about half. I hope this helps👍

@@axolotllifeaquatics4492 Thank you so much. How will I know if the eggs are viable? When they were laid last week, they were black and white. I txfrd them to a container and did water change every other day. Now they look cloudy.☹️

@@moniqueshakes8529 by now the embryo should have started to look like peanuts. If after a week they have not taken shape they are no good. At any time if an egg looks cloudy, like much different than the others they should be removed so they don't infect other eggs. If your eggs are a week old and not starting to take shape I'm sorry to tell you but they are no good. It happens from time to time. I have about 5% of every batch turn cloudy and about 10-15% never take shape. I wish I had better news for you. 😪

Axolotls come from two very specific lakes in Mexico that do NOT have brackish waters. This is misinformation. The mountains they come from are exclusively freshwater. Please do not put your axolotl in brackish water unless it is for a salt bath for treating diseases.
