Discover the extraordinary regenerative powers of the axolotl, a salamander native to Mexico and one of science’s most studied animals.
--
Axolotls are one of science’s most studied animals. Why, you ask? These extraordinary salamanders are masters of regeneration: they can flawlessly regenerate body parts ranging from amputated limbs and crushed spines to parts of their eyes and brains. So, how do they do it? And what other secrets are they keeping? Luis Zambrano explores the baffling biology of the axolotl.
Lesson by Luis Zambrano, directed by Lizete Upīte.

The axolotl is also a conservation paradox: The iconic creature is Mexico’s national symbol, and, because it breeds easily in an aquarium, a beloved pet around the globe. So many axolotls live in captivity that certain restaurants in Japan serve up the axolotl as a fried snack. Many thousands of axolotls a year are also used in scientific research: Because of their miraculous regeneration abilities, axolotls are studied in labs the world over. But in the Xochimilco canals around Mexico City, the axolotl’s only remaining natural habitat, pollution and the loss of water habitat mean that the axolotl has become a rare sight.

the energy doesn't stay constant, if axolotl a eats axolotl B's leg, axolotl b wouldn't get enough nutrients or evergy from axolotl C's leg to regenerate it, theres too much lost in between metabolism, the cost of keeping a body alive, and how inefficient digestion is. it's the same reason why even though the human body replaces most of it's cells every 7 years or so, the food you took to stay alive for that time would dwarf the actual weight of your body

@Meteoro Fallen it means neither water dog nor water monster. It’s name translates as “unusual/abnormal being of the water (lake),” since it looks odd, only metamorphoses in bad water conditions, and regenerates its limbs. @saradadhakal4748 2 жыл бұрын
@@blackevanuz paganism is when people worship more than 1 god. I myself am a hindu and hence pagan. And what I said about sacrifices are factual. The aztec believed that the way to protect the sun from being eaten was to sacrifice human blood. They sacrificed pows and slaves in large numbers in festivals. I am not sure but I think the priests sometime ate the heart of the sacrificed person. In fact they even farmed a tribe for slaves needed to be sacrificed. When Cortes came to the Mexican shore. Montezuma sent 2 slaves who were sacrificed in front of the Spanish as a mark of respect. The Spanish were rightfully horrified and suppressed this tradition after coming into control of mexico. I don't know how films portray aztec sacrifice but it was an integral part of the aztec culture which was pretty barbaric as a whole. If you could answer my question in the above comment it would be appreciated.
